Who knows? Maybe he grew and got mean since '03. He is an Olympian for whatever that's worth. But I agree at first glance he is not the type of defensive help we need. peace

Actually I don't believe they can. Participation in the Olympics (at least the Torino games) is part of the CBA. And the clauses of the old CBA that cover competing in international tournaments stated this. Unless they added a new, "Clubs can keep players from playing if they don't want them to" clause I don't think the Wings have a say in the matter. They can not be happy about it, but that's about it. peace

If you scroll this page all the way up (at least at my monitor's resolution) it looked like you had posted one of those UFO snapshots with those circle things in the ceiling. Confused me until I scolled down. peace

Didn't Holland recently comment that if they would be looking to add anything it would be a defenseman? peace

Ditto. McPhee has already commented that they've been looking for a way to grant Witt's request. Aaaaaannnnddd a contract extention is in the works with Kolzig and Washington. peace

Rolls should sue for profile infringement. I'm not liking the Imperial. Concepts are hit or miss and the Challenger is just so freakin' sleak and smooooooth. That and the Imperial looks like a cross between a stretched PT cruiser and a bloated 300. Or a Pacifica with a trunk. peace

Jackman would help out our blueline a lot, but his shoulder injuries are likely to affect him for the rest of his career. And I get a little nervous about the notion of Detroit trading within the division. Especially when it's not just an exchange of a couple picks and prospects or a minor leaguer, but rather a capable first/second line centre like Robert Lang. Obviously the Blues aren't going to hurt us this year, but who knows what Lang could do for them in the future. He was absolutely great on an awful Caps team last year. I actually had a part about shoulder worries in my post originally but then I rewrote it. I don't think trading Lang to the Blues could come back to bite us in the ass. The Blues aren't done hitting rock bottom yet and Lang is no spring chicken. Though we're off in la-la land at this point with a Lang/Jackman trade. peace

He won't be 100% this season anyway. ACL recovery takes a long time. Play. The Olympics are a high tempo, relatively low impact brand of hockey. He'd be more likely to get hurt in the NHL, or in an AHL recovery stint. peace

I strongly disagree with that. I agree that the Blues would NEVER do it, but Kenny would, and should, do this one in a heartbeat. Barrett would help this team NOW and in the future. peace

http://ahl.leaguestat.com/stats/game-summa...game_id=1001515 Hudler had a strong 3rd period on the PP with 2 goals and 2 assists. Filppula with 1 and 1 scoring the go ahead game winner with under 3 minutes to go. Bootland also was 1 and 1, Kopecky scored a goal, and Howard held on after a shaky start giving up 3 goals being peppered by 20 shots in the 1st with the Griffs taking 5 penalties that period. This game also vaulted Hudler back up into a tie for the AHL scoring lead. 20 goals 30 assists in 35 games. Filppula is 12th, 15 goals 22 assists. peace

Seeing the score later that night is still pain regardless of if we watched it or not. But that's like the quick pull on a bandaid rather than painfully ripping each hair out one by one. peace -

That's why I pruned it down to that one simple sentence. It's really pointless to debate in the Osgood was pivotal/we won in spite of him arguments. He hasn't been that bad if you look at the big picture. An injury robbed him of training camp and the exhibition season. He's had to get into game shape playing games that matter and it takes a while to get up to speed if you haven't played in close to two years. He went 8-1-1 with a GAA of 2.4-ish and a save percentage near .910 in December (this includes that monstrosity of a game we had against Atlanta when he was tossed into 5 minutes of PK half 5on3 cold) Then you factor in the rest of the team. We were on fire top to bottom that first month and then the cracks showed up. It's easy to pin it on Osgood but our problems lie deeper than goaltending. The Wings have had a hard time playing 60 full minutes and our team defense isn't close to what it's been in the past. Most people don't bother to look at everything. They just see a bad goal or bad stats and it's like throwing chum in the warm waters around Australia. peace -

We chased Turco early in the 2nd and the team decided the game was over. Maybe a couple players on a handful of shifts kept trying but other than that they all packed it in for the night. peace -

I knew I said I would stay out of this GDT. But I am just too friggin' opinionated to stay out of goalie debates. Anyways, NN, as I see it, Ozzie was great in the '98 Cup run. Sure he had the occasional bad game, but all in all, he played well enough to win. And despite what many say, you can't win the Stanley Cup without solid goaltending. In my mind, there's little debate over whether Ozzie played well in 1998; but what happened well over 7 years ago has little effect on how good of a goalie Ozzie is today. He is not the same goalie he was back then, not even close. Where do you see any mention of Osgood in my post? And to address your point. Osgood's cup in '98 was great and all but my view of him NOW is more caused by his play with the abyssmal Blues in '03-'04. He carried that team until they completely gave up on him in the playoffs. peace -

Ha! The '02 team had the Norris winner and Norris runner-up on it. Plus Jiri was playing out of his mind, along with Duchesne and Olausson. Our defense was incredible in '02. '98 wasn't even close. peace -

If he stays healthy and keeps playing well. Great. Time for him to man up and do it. Or he'll be stuck with that backup tag. peace -
