CORDEU to DET. Patterson to GR

He didn't magically shoot up the depth chart. He's being greased with a couple weeks of NHL level pay for signing with Detroit.

Yeah i'd guess it will be pretty darn close to the 912 of Helm. But yeah...... that does work. I'm cool with 200k cap room. 2 extra forwards, 1 extra D. The only time it would cause a problem is if we had 3 forwards injured at the same time without any of them injured enough to do LTIR which is what 10 games? Same thing with defence but it would be 2 at a time could be a problem. And if i understand it correct the problem would go away the second half of the season but i might be wrong. Having no cap room with a roster of 21 is plenty sketchy but I think we'd be ok.

I'm gonna go ahead and call that.... splendid. What the problem is? Holland can sign him to 1 mil base and another 1.5 in bonuses. 500k for 40 games, 500k for 60 games, and another 500k for beating the piss outta Malkin. Trade / waive Meech and Ritola and you're done. CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Mike Modano ($1.750m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.800m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.750m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) / Drew Miller ($0.650m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / Willie Mitchell ($2.500m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.416m) /Jimmy Howard ($0.716m) CARRY-OVER BONUS PENALTY: $50,000 CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $59,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $61,087,878; BONUSES: $2,000,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $312,122 What an offseason that would be. We'll have 2 mil possibly being deffered to next year, but I'm plenty good with that. Take advantage of Lids while he's still here. Go for it. edit... oh, have abs at 800, might be 900

Geez, this looks like it could happen. I think what we need to know is.... does Mitchell qualify for bonuses due to games missed last year? If so, this is very doable. 1 mil salary and whatever required in bonuses.

    Pre-world junior exhibition games?

I read somewheres about a thing starting I think today in the states. 2 American teams, 1 Swedish, 1 from Finland. Anyone got info? Pullk, JRok, and Almquist attending.

    Pre-world junior exhibition games?

Ok, found some info. Looks like Pulkk's isn't there. Games start on the 2nd. Below is the link. Looks like you can pay 7 bucks a game and catch a couple online too. http://www.usahockey.com//Template_Usahockey.aspx?NAV=TU_04_01_06&ID=218662

Good point. I think I read it at mlive blog. Maybe I dreamt it. Hmmm. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/red_wings_prospect_calle_jarnk_1.html not sure if that will work. I'm on phone but says he's playing. And says it starts today. Wonder if it's correct.

    Are we becoming Lightning fans?

If I had to rank them... I'd rank them... 1. Wings 2. Pecan Pie 3. Bolts 4. Other 27 teams 5. The Habs So, yeah I guess come to think of it, back to the original question, yeah, I guess a little. But I won't watch em, I'll just half hope they do ok.

    Are we becoming Lightning fans?

I'm not a sports fan. Don't know dick about baseball, football, or basketball. I don't know the teams, stats, players, and barely the rules. Superbowl parties are about as far as I stray from hockey. I like the beer involved. I'm not really a hockey fan. I don't watch any games that aren't redwings related. 15 th ranked prospect in a low league game being televised..... Sure. I'm in. Incredibly exciting game 7 Stanley cup final game without the wings..... Hells no. My season ends when the wings does. I have center ice and watch 82 games every regular seaon. That's plenty. It's not even the logo.... It's the 23 that make it up every year. I'll keep tabs on former wings..... Fedorov. Kozzie. Yzerman in a management role.... Sure. But all my rooting is for the wings.

    Next year's roster (Zherdev edition)

I just had a thought.... maybe Williams doesn't suck. Let me explain. We all agree we have enough high end players to make 2 scoring lines. We would all agree we need a good, energy, able to pot occasionally, defensively responsible, maybe even shutdownish, have someone to fight, 4th line. What's up in the air is what to do with that other line. Do we have / can we get... the offensive depth to make a scoring 3rd line. Do we have the right players to make another effective energy line? Last year we had the 2 scoring lines and 2, for lack of a better word, s*** lines. We had 2 lines that tried not to get scored on and every once in awhile they checked someone. I'm not saying we shouldn't go this way, just wee need the right players. Personally, I like the 3 scoring lines, but obviously you need great caphits. That's why players like Huds at 2.875 and Zherdev for a proposed 2.5 do it for me. I like Drew Miller but I don't want 6 of them on the roster. Anyway, back to Williams. He didn't warrant or earn top 6 minutes. Our 3rd line was a Miller line. He doesn't work on Miller lines. If things would have went different and we woulda ran a Will, Fil and Vill line maybe he ends up not sucking (as much)

    Next year's roster (Zherdev edition)

This is what I want. FORWARDS * Nikolai Zherdev ($2.500m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / * Todd Bertuzzi ($1.500m) * Patrick Eaves ($0.800m) / * Darren Helm ($0.800m) / * Justin Abdelkader ($0.800m) * Brad Winchester ($0.800m) / Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / * Garnet Exelby ($0.800m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 23; CAP:$58.8m; PAYROLL: $58.671m; CAP ROOM: $0.129m BONUSES: $0.000m No Meech. No Miller. No Draper. Draper is the doubtful one. Send him over to Tampa with Maltby. I like Draper. I'm good with keeping him but his 1.58 is hard to fit into the top 12 spots. That's alot of capspace riding the pine. Wonder if he and Steve would go for it. I know we have these threads all the time but not sure if there's one since we've found out some numbers for Lids, Holmstrom, the Bert offer, etc. And I'm too lazy to search. I want Zherdev. I just read an article about him wanting back. I also like Bert, would be a great line with Huds and Fil. As for Winchester and Exelby, I guess I just mean the best options of toughness with some ability in those spots. Asham I read is out of that range, for trying to fit in all i'm trying to fit in. Without the option of moving out Drapes, you could just go Draper instead of Bert. Could still fit in Zherdev and a couple 800k guys to punch other guys. Still some options I guess I mean. FORWARDS * Nikolai Zherdev ($2.500m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / * Justin Abdelkader ($0.800m) * Patrick Eaves ($0.800m) / * Darren Helm ($0.800m) / * Brad Winchester ($0.800m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) / Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) / * Garnet Exelby ($0.800m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) / Chris Osgood ($1.417m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (these totals are compiled using the bonus cushion) ROSTER: 23; CAP:$58.8m; PAYROLL: $58.755m; CAP ROOM: $0.045m BONUSES: $0.000m

    Next year's roster (Zherdev edition)

Alright, I'll back it off some. But not without repeating he lead the rangers in points the last time he was this side of the water. (as a lazy floater, apparently) I'm not saying he's a top 3 wings forward. What I'm trying to propose is a great top 9. Offense. Depth. You get 9 players, move them around in slots and make a 3 good lines. If you don't think he'd be a good player on Datsyuk's wing then.... I don't know. Last year we had 2 4th lines... not enough offence depth to make 3 scoring lines. Good enough for some teams / fanbases. I like my wings to dominate. That's what I'm used to.

    Next year's roster (Zherdev edition)

I know as much about this as the rest of yas so it's all opinion but my thought is you have Frolov and Zherdev as intriguing options for Pavel's wing. Difference being is that one of them is crawling back to the NHL. That's the guy you target. The potential sweet deal. And the numbers are right that were mentioned for Zherdev. AFter the Rangers walked from 3.9 I'd guess he didn't get too much for offers. Teams had signed there players by then. 3.9 was Zherdev's number. He didn't get it. Dude's looking for a home, let's give him one. Trade Hudler... nah. 2.875 for what he's gonna bring this year. I'll keep him. First line winger? Franzen? Zetterberg? What? 30 teams in this league. They don't all have those level of guys on their first line. But if you don't agree calling a team's leading point scorer a first liner than we'll just disagree and move on.

Highly skilled, something to prove, I'd roll the dice. The other thing is if he has questionable work ethic, s***, he lead the rangers in points. I wonder what happens if he works hard.

    Next year's roster (Zherdev edition)

No need to apologize. Yeah, you're right. Second roster is what I want. The first one is what i really want. Just mad sold on getting Zherdev. I hope Holland is at least entertaining the thought, making the call, checking the price. The cap age is all about getting best value / best fit. I see it as a huge opportunity.

Kovalchuk will not be a Red Wing

Ilya Kovalchuk ($6.500m) Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.500m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) Dick Axelsson ($0.85m) Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.500m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.900m) Darren Helm ($0.900m)Patrick Eaves ($0.750m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) Drew Miller ($0.750m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($4.000m) Anton Volchenkov ($4.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Andreas Lilja ($1.000m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) Chris Osgood ($1.417m) / ROSTER: 23; PAYROLL: $57.513m; CAP ROOM: $0.352m BONUSES: $0.165m Damn no trade clauses. Cleary and Rafalski if you're wondering. And yeah, I chucked a dick in there. Not for discussion just cause I'd like it. Had hoped he'd make it to the show. Might still. But the dick thing aside, that line up is an upgrade on offense and defense. The problem with adding Kovi, and I think we could even without moving the no trade clause club is that Howard is gonna want some money year after next. I like the idea of a high skill russian to play with Dats though. I'd like Zherdev for 3 mil. If we could turn Rafalski into Volchenkov I think we should. the cap savings and we have offensive dmen on the way. NJ needs a puck mover. I think it's worth a call. Grab some picks or Clarkson.

Hudler and Dynamo Moscow out in first round of playoffs

But IMO, if you were to have asked Holland going into this year if he would prefer to have Sammy @ 3. Or Bert and JWill for 3 combined. He would have been alright with how it turned out. As for Hudler, I think that worked out fine too... Huds got his cash, and a chance for big minutes and we got Hudler for a good cap amount when he's ready to come back. If I remember correctly, they went to arbitration but they agreed on the 2.88 amount and gave it to the arbitrator. Went to arbitration but didn't. It was a nice, greasy little deal. Holland gave Huds his blesssing in chasing cash and Huds returned the favor by giving us a good deal for when he's ready to come back. With the cap crunch that was going on, I thought it was a great outcome. Nobody expected the wheels to fall off this year like they did. Edit... what i mean by greasy deal is Hudler didn't want to sign a contract that would make it hard for him to go to Russia. But by doing it through abitration, he had a deal but not a contract. But they agreed on an amount and just used the arbitration thing to make it all work out. I thought it was pretty crafty.
