Players you would trade the Wings 1st round pick for.
Reilly replied to babygorilla's topic in General
He also said he always wanted to play in New York. Time to move on. Bye Shanny. -
He'll get a Kronwall-type contract.

Best Player Available.

The 7th Finn ever? That seems extremely low. I figured there was at least one Finn on a SC roster over the past 20 years.

I can't stand draft day on Wings' message boards. All anyone ever wants is 6'5 Canadian forwards. It's gotten really, really boring folks. And for all that "weak year for X type players," that just draft talk. No one really knows.

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
Reilly replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Fedorov wanted to stay in Detroit. He still has Michigan ties. It's not a matter of whether or not he left or how he left, it's what he did while he was here. To suggest his accolades are somehow tarnished because he left for another team in the twilight of his career is laughable. He did what Howe, Sawchuk, Kelly, Lindsay, and Abel also did. And no one is questioning any of those players retired numbers. -
McCarty was horrible. I have no clue why he's coming back.

Fedorov is among the all-time leading Red Wings in total points. Numerous trophies and, as of now, the best Russian to ever play in the NHL. His number is going up. His career was basically over when he signed with Anaheim. Lidstrom, yes. Osgood, No. Not right now anyway. He needs like a Vezina trophy and/or another Cup. Shanahan, No. His best seasons were before Detroit. Plus he "always wanted to play for New York." Bye Shanny. -
Holy crap. I forgot how much room used to be behind the net. I wish the NHL had bigger ice.

I loved this kid. Is he going to play next year? Hopefully with the retirement of Drake he gets a spot. With Helm, too, there seems to be so much young talent on the Wings, I don't know who to give up on.

I'd bring him back for the right price. He not an every-game defenseman, though. Too slow for this team. Not good with the puck.

Hating on Hasek for 2004 is completely insane. If you're going to blame anyone for that goaltending mess, blame Ken Holland. He's the one who brought him back. You can't fault for Hasek wanting to play again. Hasek had an option on his contract and Holland re-upped for fear that he'll go to a contender (aka Colorado) and he had zero faith in Joseph. Sure, Hasek wanted to play for Detroit first and foremost, as a lot of players do, but he's just a player doing what he wants to do. It's up to the GM. Holland could have said "No thanks," which is what he did after the playoffs and Dom signed with Ottawa.

I'm intersted to see how long Howard's leash is next season. There's a lot of free agent, veteran back-up goalies available that could split time with Ozzy. I don't think he's capable of playing 65+ games. Also, his record with the Red Wings: 176 GP 114 W 38 L 19 T 368 GA 20 SO 2.14 GAA .911 SV%

Hasek should have gotten it after Chelios, or at the very least, after Osgood. I kinda wish they'd both hold it together.

But on this team, he's a #4 defenseman. You don't pay #4 defenseman $4+ million dollars. It doesn't make sense. Sign him, but don't overpay. If he wants to stay, he'll stay. I don't think he put the Wings over the top, he contributed quite nicely, but lets not get carried away, here.

Get someone to replace Samuelsson on the second line. I'd throw a one-year deal at Sundin. Rolston would be a nice addition as well, but he'll want a multi-year deal, and he's already 35 years old. Try and sign Stuart, but he's not a priority. This team would be in trouble if Nolan ever gets top-6 minutes. At this point, he's a 4th liner on a bad skating team.

I just want a 2 goal lead with a minute left. I can't do that anymore. -

The player in front didn't lay down to block the shot, rather, he just skated in front of Ozzy. -
