If Osgood was name Joe Smith and was only in the league 2 or 3 years, there's no way he'd still be on the team, let alone playing professional hockey with his current stats. He's been getting chance after chance to play well and redeem himself. It hasn't happened yet and probably never will. Even when he was the unofficial back-up last season, he still played well. There is no way you can start him for the playoffs.

On this team, players like Hudler, Samuelsson, Filppula, etc, are expendable and very replaceable. Franzen, despite being injury prone lately, is not.

No team is going to trade for a 3 million dollar, under-performing player and not send salary the other way. I'd rather just keep Val in hopes he turns it around.

Out of all the professional sports leagues in the world, I find NHL refs to be the worst.

Problem right now is the Wings have no goaltenders on their roster that are playing well. I don't think any fans can expect a switch to be flipped come playoff time, either. At this point, I'd spent Hossa's salary on a starting goaltender, or bring up Larsson and see if he can get hot ala Steve Mason.

Osgood has now let in 3 or more goals in 20 of the 26 games he's started.

Mule is cheaper. Hossa is great, but he's still a luxury at this point. I'd much rather have Z and Pavel back together again and fill out the deph than add another big-ticket player. Don't forget, if this team trades Filppula, they'll have to take some salary in return.
