    Another 3 GAA.
  9. Roberto Luongo will be a free after next season. The same time, Lidstrom's $7.45 million salary comes off the books. This presents a rare open window for the Wings to acquire a goalie by the likes they have never seen (Hasek was still great at 38, though). A few things: 1) Luongo could very well re-sign with Vancouver before hitting the open market. I believe he will enter free agency because it might be the last time in his career he'll be able to, and Vancouver doesn't look like much of a contender. 2) Lidstrom could also return instead of retiring. 3) I like the Wings' current goaltending, but I'm not comfortable with it. I blame most of the current bad defensive play on the defense, not the goalies. I am of the opinion that spending more than $5 million on a goalie is insane because you can't win when you constantly rely on your goaltender. Luongo is great -- one of the best in the league -- but he still really hasn't proven himself as a winner. What say you?

Chris Osgood- What do we do?

Osgood has had pleny of playoff failures in his career, too.

Osgood as let in 77 goals so far this season. That's 7 less than he let in all of last season through 43 games. Osgood has only played 24 so far. He gave up the most goals in his career with the Islanders in '02 with 156 through 66 games. Stastically speaking, he's he's having career low in every goaltender category.

Hopefully Franzen is out until the playoffs. That way he can't keep raising his contract demands.

Osgood just needs to make it through the 3rd period without giving up 2 goals and they should be fine.

There are plenty of times to test your goaltending throughout a regular season. Tonight was not one of them, unless of course Babcock doesn't feel winning the Western Conference (nor the President's Trophy) is important this season.

It's not even that. Osgood has shown nothing this season to deserve a start in such a big game. He's going to give up at least one more goal tonight. Possibly more. Not sure if the Wings will manage to get 3 more past Nabokov tonight.
