He does turn it over a lot, I'll give you that. I still say if you compare him to realistic expectations and not to himself from 8 years ago he's doing pretty well. Like someone else said, he hasn't been the type of guy who lays people out regularly in a while.

Nice to see someone plug Bert, I thought he had an excellent game last night. Almost scored on a move that looked like he brought in on a time machine, and he's putting in the work on the other end too, which was always the knock on him. Honestly, I'd like to see more of Janik, he had a really strong game the other night. The only dilemma is deciding whether Lebda or E is pissing me off more right now. Trying to give E a pass, but it's getting harder and harder every game.

Duh. ...and there's the downfall of the tiny personal internet usage at work window. Users or posts, not both.
-
At least he actually has a Ph.D. and the nickname doesn't just come from the glasses and nasally voice. I can respect that, how many others in the sport (besides medical staff, obviously) can legitimately be called Doc?
-
Rrrrrrick Nash! Gotta admit, those broadcasts are infinitely more tolerable without Danny Gare. I used to deliberately avoid their games unless they were playing the Wings, now I'll check them if they're playing a semi-interesting game.

Beat me to the stat update, but if I have to stay up until 3 to get scoop, no thanks . I'll just add that one of the As was the only one on the GWG midway through the 3rd. Damn... He keeps going like this, I may have to go back to rooting for the Monsters on 12/13 because Cheli will be with the Habs or something lol.

if true, yikes... As recently as 2006-07, the Hawks drew 12,727 per. They fail for calling anyone bandwagon except maybe Pens fans. I like these BTW. Like someone else said, beats 97% of what comes from our marketing people.

Only 15 years to go before he's either reitred or too old to be an elite player, no big deal

Sorry for the multiple posts, just saw something in another thread that reminded me of one that pretty much everyone does: saying that a shot off the post "beat the goaltender." No, it didn't. Why don't they say this about shots that miss the net entirely? It's about equally true. Beating the goalie = puck in net, plain and simple.

He's about 20x worse doing a Caps game than he is on Versus. And that's saying something. He acutally says "Great 8" more often than he says "Ovechkin." Stupid nickname overkill.

The Lightning guy on the radio, Dave Mishkin, is horrible like that too. Anyone with XM knows what I'm talking about there. He's particularly weird because he actually sounds pretty well balanced most of the time, only to go apepoopy on goals. Even goals that cut it to 4-1 with 5:00 left. Actual sayings...I actually like Pierre McGuire (I know I'm in a tiny minority on that) and can even live with "active stick" and "monster." But "roof daddy," used for a top-shelf goal?

I was a Cujo guy, but in hindsight it probably worked out for the best, since he was pretty much done as a legit #1 post-lockout. If we keep him, then who knows what happens for sure, but it probably doesn't involve the Osgood/Hasek tandem that was vital to good seasons in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Good times, those were. You haven't seen a real goalie thread unless you were around back then.

Exactly. He (or anyone else) doesn't owe it to anyone to retire when they think he should, to "preserve his legacy" or some stupid crap like that that only means anything to fans and media. If anything, this enhances his legacy in my mind--how many all-time greats love the game enough to keep playing it in the minors after their NHL days are apparently over? Dude could easily sit back, run Cheli's, be a hockey dad...instead he chooses to ride a bus to places like Rockford, Peoria and Grand Rapids to keep playing. Already bought tickets behind the visitors' bench for the Wolves @ Lake Erie game 12/13. Best of luck Cheli!

This doesn't really answer the question, but isn't Dom pretty sensitive about people shooting high on him in practice? It could have been more of a case of people just trying to piss him off as opposed to actually hurting him.

Agree. I mean, I guess it's nice that you want to pay tribute to your home country, your adopted country, your four kids, your six favorite movies, your nickname, the city you play in and your team's logo, but when you do it all at the same time, don't expect anyone to be able to tell what the hell they're looking at. I really like Quick's because it's painted like something else you wear on your head, which is kinda cool. Although they're the Kings, not the Knights, so WTF. Honorable mention to Luongo's just from that gallery. Cheevers is the best all-time IMO, so I always liked Steve Shields' tribute:

NHLPA Tabs Four Veterns (Lids One) To Spearhead Review
C-TownWing replied to rage's topic in General
Four pretty highly-respected guys among the rank-and-file, no surprise there. Hopefully they can lead the process of getting that mess of an organization cleaned up. Considering the Goodenow era was the only time in NHLPA history that something shady DIDN'T go down (as far as I remember anyway, and even there, two lengthy labor stoppages were involved), that might be asking a lot lol. -
I went down my mental checklist and can't figure out why they don't. I don't think everyone's going to drop Center Ice on the off chance that their team's game gets picked up every once in a while. I took a quick look and they do have games Wednesday-Thursday this week following Vs. on Monday-Tuesday, so I'll try to give them some credit. Although I'm pretty salty that they're not showing the late HNIC game until Sunday afternoon now, since I've sort of adopted the Oilers as my west coast team, the one I root for in the set of games played after the Wings/most others.

that one rates highly on the unintentional comedy scale. Or maybe it's just late. I knew what you meant though. My personal gut feeling is that Lilja's done, which is a damn shame.

Nice thought, hope so. With the full-on youth movement, I actually think Team USA will be more competitive than most expect, and at minimum we'll have the goaltending to at least hang in with everyone. Should be interesting.

I actually really like them. Represents the region well, has a contemporary twist (literally). Good with me. Do the hockey gold and silver ones say "Canada" and "Russia" on them already (I'll let you decide which is which)?

It's really nice to see Nick finally get some recognition these last couple years as more than just another great player in the Red Wings machine, but as the centerpiece to the whole thing. Not trying to disrespect anyone, but I'll have no problem calling him the best all-around D ever when he hangs up the blades. Planned on wearing my Lidstrom WC jersey to work to celebrate, but I overslept, which screwed my whole morning prep. I'll give him the honors next week.

That's the same site I found...so with that you can project 88-89 Yzerman to 56 goals/78 assists in 93-94 (it's 7.48 goals per game in 88-89). Fedorov went 56 goals/64 assists that year. Curious to see the source for the 9% figure, since this one looks like my HS HTML project from 1998. So slight edge to Yzerman offensively, slight edge to Fedorov defensively. To me, there's not a huge gap between the best defensive forward and the 12th best. Maybe equal to 14 assists, maybe not. Either way, I don't think there's a tremendous difference between the two seasons, although you're certainly entitled to think so, it's all good.

I consider myself pretty good at looking things up, but I'm seriously impressed by the pull of the full Selke vote from over 20 years ago. Can't figure out where you're coming from though. The OP didn't declare it THE best, just one of them. And looking at it, it seems like he was limiting it to one per player, so you can't necessarily count the 15 Gordie Howe years you'd put ahead of 88-89 Yzerman. If you think 93-94 Fedorov was better, that's great, I'm sure you're not the only one. Again, "one of." If you're only going one per player and don't have 88-89 Yzerman in the top 10, you're being irrational.

Hell yeah to Nyquist, I was going to say him. I caught a couple Maine games last year and like his game. They use him in pretty much every situation too. Off to a strong start this year with 2G in 2 games. Tatar obviously looks like a great prospect, might as well be the 38th person to mention him. I'm kind of shaky on McCollum and Kindl. McCollum mostly because the only time I've seen him extensively was the WJHC last year. But his stats look great, so it's probably just a bad sample. Kindl smells like another Jimmy Howard, but I keep telling myself we've been stacked at D and just haven't had room. I'm also rooting for Ritola, since I bought a Griffins gamer of his from MeiGray last year. Hopefully he takes the next step this year.

Funniest thing I've read this week. Nice work.
