This is weird...Vs. has Hawks-Flames audio, but video from the Caps-Rangers game on right now. Now back to normal...

So basically, the guy who got one on the ice got jumped too. Interesting. I think that's the thing that gets me the most. Not that a fight happened, that happens when you get enough alcohol and emotion in one place, but the way the others almost universally, and now including the team's beat writer side with the guy. Normally in civilization, you'd see most intelligent fans and the media piling on the guy for making them look like drunken a-holes.

One LGW collective mancrush (Lucic) is definitely doing better than the other (Ovechkin) right now. I used to count Komisarek among my favorite non-Wings, but I pretty much see him as a punk and not all that good anyway now.

Lundqvist has been flat out awesome. Made 3-4 spectacular saves on the Caps' last PP.

Kesler and Burrows talking trash about Backes' wife

I think I read/heard Iginla say it wasn't racial at some point, for whatever that's worth. Agree with those saying it's part of the game and that Avery's thing was way different (although he shouldn't have been suspended, IMO). But if the league felt the need to step in, I'd completely understand, given the chances of playing them in the near future. -
Something tells me that we're not going to have multi-page threads trying to figure out what he said at the awards show this year. I think I pooped myself when he first started talking though.

Also, I feel like pointing out that when ESPN did their "50 States of SportsNation" poll or whatever it was called a year or two ago, the Wings outvoted the Jackets for favorite NHL team in Ohio. Thing of beauty. Thanks Toledo!

Hey now! Just kidding. Ohio sucks. And I've lived here my whole life. The good news is that we're going to help them get their hockey season wrapped up just in time so they don't miss the O$U spring game. I remember eight years ago when Browns fans threw beer bottles at a game to protest an instantly replay after another play had been run, the team was able to identify guilty fans from photos published in the PD (the newspaper here) so they could take away their season tickets, and I believe they reported them to the cops as well. Penn State (my alma mater) officials often check Facebook to bust people who rush the field at football games. Hopefully CBJ brass has a little more class than their fans--shouldn't be too hard to ID the guy with the civil war jacket and officer's hat with the JHM patch. Not to mention the internet confession...

Don't forget the NJ-Carolina series...tied 2-2 and with some tremendous drama/great finishes in the last two games.

Told you guys the Sharkies weren't done yet, not by a longshot...strong game by Murray.

Mmmmm...I love the taste of their tears....

WCQF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 1
C-TownWing replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Just watched the replay of our 3rd goal for the 17th time. And laughed at Commodore's sucktitude for the 17th time. -
I'm thinking this would be a good time to get our first (I think) multi-OT game of these playoffs.
-
I actually like their jerseys. I mean, for their history of horribleness in jerseys, they're actually tolerable for the most part. The orca is fine with me--they have 'em up there, and it sort of looks like something off a totem pole, which they also have there. They have a tough looking lumberjack guy and a modernized version of their original logo as alternates. Honestly, what else do you do with "canuck?" I'd take any of the above over a flaming skate or a flying V.

Crap...I was hoping the Blues could at least make them think about it by taking this game and maybe even another one. I'd like to gain SOME kind of advantage from (hopefully) finishing Columbus quickly. Doesn't work if Vancouver and/or Anaheim does the same. Horribly weak goal to end what was a great season for C. Mason. I thought we were going 2OT for sure.
-
Exactly. Plus, we own you and your pathetic team, we get to throw the octopus. It's sort of like planting our flag in your arena. BTW, anyone that overcomes the adversity of tripled prices for Wings fans, heightened security and apparently stupid redneck fans jumping you to get one on the ice during a road playoff game is my hero.

What is it about Dom that just gives people the redass? He was an elite goalie as recently as 2006-07. I felt like he should've been a Vezina finalist that year, his 2.05 GAA was I think 2nd in the league and his 8 shutouts were the 4th best total of his career. He was fine last year too--for whatever reason, revisionist history has him being a complete sieve all year, as opposed to just having a bad playoff series. Hell, like someone else already said, if they could make it work under the cap, I'd take him as a backup next year. He's > Howard or any other realistic option, as far as I'm concerned.

I just keep reading "Crosby's marketable, the Wings aren't." I personally don't get it. Is he the best player in the league? Does he play in a big market? Is he particularly good looking? Funny/cool/charismatic? Won a championship? I don't join in the group Crosby hate-ons that pop up on here once in a while, because he didn't ask for any of it, is a great player and doesn't seem like a TOTAL ******. But from where I sit, the only thing he has on Dany Heatley marketing-wise is that he never got a teammate killed. So what's the NHL seeing that I'm missing? Half the fun of winning a championship is that all the commercials and other marketing-type things are supposed to feature your team for the next year, and we've been deprived of that.

I was just going for a cheap Cechmanek reference there. Probably should've used the ninja face or something. Point being that it's pretty wide open after Vokoun and he's definitely got a shot.
-
I think Roman Cechmanek's playing ok in the Czech league lol. It's pretty thin overall. Vokoun's the obvious starter, but there could definitely be a place on the team. Best wishes to Dom...in his prime, he was the best I ever saw and Nashville series aside, he was still an NHL-caliber goalie last year. I was happy to hear about this--I'm a firm believer that if you love the game, keep playing it as long as you are able. Edit: Factual correction on Cechmanek. I thought he was in the KHL for some reason. Oh wait, I was thinking of Robert Esche.

Wow, what a turnaround at MSG. How the hell did Callahan miss that? Geez.
-
Crazy...I mean he's his guy, I guess, but they're coming dangerously close to ruining the kid, IMO.

I'm not going to take it that far...unlike 99.9% of people out there, I actually don't think the Sharks are done just yet. The Ducks were lucky to escape last night--almost 2-1 shots for SJ, Ehrhoff alone had 2-3 pings. Not to discount the fact that the Ducks probably have better quality shots on average, but still...I think this is more of a case of Anaheim having a hot goalie and counterpunching well than it is the Sharks rolling over (again). I wouldn't be that surprised to see this go back to SJ at 2-2. Totally agree on the travel...it's absolutely freaking insane that there's only one team in the West in our time zone. Think about it--the Wings went to a different time zone for 29 of our 41 road games. That's ridiculous. Now there's a distinct possibility of having to play two west coast teams before the finals (and an opponent that stayed in EST all three rounds).
-
I think the Flames get back in it, they've been good, just not for 60 minutes. The Bs keep rolling, I just can't see the Habs winning a game in that series. The Rangers shock the world by going up 3-0. I used to think Lundqvist was overrated. Now, not so much.

I did some selective snipping here, just to help line up my points. 1. You're absolutely right, getting that walkover 2nd round series while Dallas took out SJ (and Anaheim before that) was as big of a key to winning the Cup as the play of Osgood/Zetterberg/Franzen (pre-injury) or anything else. Maybe even more so. 2. That point made, you go on to say that arguments could be made either way for Anaheim or Vancouver. If it's close, why not root for the outcome that takes out the Sharks and gives us a matchup against a team worn down from a physical and hopefully long series? Just like last year, except a round earlier. 3. I'm not going to go too deep into the Nucks-Ducks comparison. I agree that the first lines are about equal and that Anaheim's D is much better. But even with Hiller playing as well as he is, it's a stretch to call him a wash with Luongo, IMO. And I'll take Vancouver's 2nd line over Anaheim's, easily. Either team would be tough though.
