    2010 College Football Season Thread

heard it on the radio so note the source: michigan had 12 possession drives vs indiana 6 of them led to no points (punt, turnovers, etc.) lets say thats cut from 12 to 10 against msu even if they have half there drives led to no points, i like msu's chances if the spartans hold michigan under 34, i think they will win. if michigan scores in the 40s, i am worried tho.

i have to agree with a majority of what you said. Michigan will definately have their chances as MSU's defense is solid but not great by any stretch. I look at this game as a perfect game for Greg Jones to show what he is capable of. Cousins and the offense (assuming they can run or pass at will like I expect) just need to play clean...limit turnovers. Michigan wins IMO if they can score at will and get a short field based on turnovers. Wolverines special teams is a joke and that could come into play tomorrow. Have fun at the game as I will be dawning my MSU gear at home watching the game.

If Denard throws for 100 yards, rushes for 200 yards...leads Michigan to 5 scoring drives....I still like the Spartans in the game. Even give Michigan 31 points. MSU just needs to be able to go toe-to-toe with UM in order to win this game.

agreed. Ball control can sometimes tell the story of the game and sometimes it can't. In this case, MSU needs to control the time of possession (which I believe they can)...and limit turnovers. Turnovers is the main thing because Michigan can score from ANYWHERE on the field. No need to give them a short field. Also I think this is the type of game where special teams can be the difference and the Wolverines suck in that department.

    2010 College Football Season Thread

wow! two days before Michigan-MSU and this thread is quiet. I can remember years when the game required its OWN thread. Anyway, here I go. Hey Michigan fans, do you know what time it is?? It's almost midnight. Get ready for your cinderella season, denard's heisman quest to come to a crashing end. MSU has the perfect weapon to stop Denard on saturday. Don't let him have the ball. Chew up a lot of clock time against a weak Wolverine defense and don't turn the ball over. I think if Denard gets 100 passing, 200 yards rushing....MSU will be fine. I think the team that scores 34 first will probably win the game anyway so I am ok if the spartans defense lets up 31 points to big blue. Question is can Michigan stop MSU's offense. MSU has multiple ways they can beat you and might just be the most balanced offense in the Big Ten this year. Any opinions? I am so geeked for this game on saturday. GO GREEN!! GO WHITE!!

Michigan is only as good as D-Rob's health. When he plays he freakin scares me. I hear all the comparisons to Pat White in WVU, but White never had to run that many carries and White also had Slaton to run the ball. When a better team does what UMASS did on defense today, how can Michigan respond.

I am in favor of the East-West divison of the Big 10, er 12. I agree with Blak's prediction on getting 8 wins. Especially the NW game. Spartans will blow a game this year that they should have no business losing to. On the flip side, they probably can beat someone they shouldnt. Michigan's offense better score points this year because they are gonna allow a ton. I think this is the last year for RichRod. I dont think he will really deserve the ax but the record doesnt lie. His seat will be hot from the UCONN game, which Michigan will lose.

    Lidstrom throwing out first pitch

link Pretty cool. Rainy here right now. Hopefully they will get the game in today. Game is at 1:05pm and it will be on FSD.
  10. I think this an interesting debate. My vote has to be for Scotty Bowman but the gap is shrinking with the legend of Tom Izzo growing every year. Izzo is #2 on my list followed by Schembechler and then probably Chuck Daly would be next.

Best Coach in Michigan Sports History

I had to include a Lions coach and to me, its a no brainer he was the best coach. Thats why I dont have Izzo at the top because Bowman got the Wings 3 cups. If Izzo won more National Championships then the debate is on. Izzo has had to regroup year after year where Bowman had keep relatively the same core. Thats the biggest difference in favor of Izzo IMO.

USA Sets Winter Olympic Medal Record

Yes but the USA spends the least amount of GOVERNMENT money on athletes (maybe $0). The money comes from endorsements like Ralph Lauren whom gave money to the athletes in return for the athletes wearing their clothing at the opening and closing ceremony.

    Canada sets record

wow. lot of nonsense bickering on this thread. Let me just comment on the original post. If the poster would have said something like this instead, no one would have a problem. If that post was mentioned first, I would reply this way. Thank you Canada for being a great host country and congratulations on the gold medal record.

Only a few days away from the games. I love the winter games. I like countries competing and especially like sports that you dont see that often like speed skating or skiing. Anyone else looking forward to the games? Also who will be the final torch bearer and light the cauldron? I think it will be Wayne Gretzky. He is Canada's biggest athlete ever and to me makes the most sense. How he does it intrigues me a bit. Does he have his skates on? Does he make a hockey move and shot a puck into the cauldron, lighting it?? I dunno. Your guess is as good as mine.

they designed the course to be the fastest and toughest to tame but clearly they went overboard. Glad to see them raise that wall and make the changes but clearly too little, too late. Luge/bobsled/skelton have always been a dangerous sport tho. Doesn't take long to find out why with the speed and challenging course. You don't break your bones, they shatter.

is this your first olympics? They are always a bit fruity and done to represent "culture". This is an intro to the world of the host nation. The party is more at the closing night. I expect a lot of canadian music artists like Brain Adams and Nickelback to be there for that night.

    Geaux, Saints!

congrats Jack and all Saints fans on the saints championship. Well deserved. Enjoy the parade tonight. Now for a little rain on the parade. Where do you see this franchise next year and/or in the future? To me football is a game of motivation. Whether it's "win this one for John Elway", "one for the thumb" or "this is for the city of new orleans"..its all rallying crys for that team. What happens next for the Saints? The Saints and their fans can't go there anymore. Hurricane Katrina is over, the city that everyone forgot about has a championship, the 'Aints are dead, and the mentality of "its us against the world" is over. If anything the Saints are favorites now and not sure if they handle that/perfer that. In fact, their message was "who dat" this year. EVERYONE knows WHO DAT is now. What is next year? THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE. Not sure if that works on a T-Shirt. My point is the Saints IMO will be a one time winner. The road back will be much harder next time based on what is the motivation. Just ask the Bucs, Giants, or Ravens. They have had good teams but something is always missing. IMO things won't line up perfect like that for the Saints again. The one thing the Saints got going for them is that they have one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL. Just a matter of time before that coaching staff is picked apart for head coaching jobs tho. My favorities for next year. Colts-Packers. Manning has determination to get back again. Rodgers reminds me of Steve Young in his quest to get a championship and out of the shadow of Montana. It's just a matter of time before he will prove himself apart from Favre.

9 million won't be enough to keep verlander. I think you gotta go somewhere like $15-18 million per year for Verlander. He would get a contract like that in the open market. But yes, he is a #1 pitcher and should get paid like one.
