Would you go to a Premier League game in the U.S.?
timothy1997 replied to Jwo's topic in Other Sports
The difference is I am not interested in what other European cities do when it comes to soccer, I can honestly care less what European hockey cities do. I care when my country is on the spotlight and thats why I will have a vested interest when it comes to olympics or world cup. Not the same. To answer the question about a Premier League game in the US? NO!! I would rather watch a MLS game if they ever had a team in Detroit over a European city, visiting the US. -

Doesn't the US already have the MLS. That is enough for me. Every 4 years is enough for me to care about soccer. Olympics and World Cup is enough. -
I totally agree. It is definately worthy of being in the top 10, if not top sports upsets ever. When I created this poll, I obviously wanted to include some cant miss upsets of all time. Rulon Gardner's upset is one of the greatest upsets ever when you consider his opponent that he had beaten. If not for the Miracle on Ice story, I would easily vote this top olympic upset hands down. Miracle on Ice to me takes the sport to a far above level.

I can see your point on college basketball with the tournament but Villanova over Georgetown to me still stands the test of time and goes down as one of the greatest sports upsets ever. Georgetown was unstoppable that year, going 35-3, winning their last 17 games, and holding opponents to 40% shooting. And here comes Nova, the 8th seed in their region, supposed to lose by 10 pts, shoots 72% in the first half and leads by 1 pt. In the 2nd half, the Wildcats caught fire again and shoots 90% from the field. I don't care who you are, that is amazing. Villanova wins 66-64 beating probably the greatest college basketball team to never win the ncaa title. Isn't that what sports is all about. Thats why they play the game.

Link Looks like Sam McGuffie is having 2nd thoughts on Michigan, acccording to Rivals.com. Might end up going to California.

I am sick of hearing about Pryor! I am not gonna like him no matter what school he goes to.

I think this is a big mistake by the Suns. Clearly this is a reaction trade after the Lakers acquired Gasol from Memphis. I think Shaq is done and his career is over. Nothing left in the tank.

I am curious to then why Miracle on Ice registers but college upsets don't because they are paid professional athletes when the kids that were a part of the 1980 USA Hockey team were amateurs, not paid professionals. I put college kids up there on the same level because these kids don't know that Georgetown was supposed to beat Villanova, that Michigan was supposed to beat Appy State. No one told these kids and all they did was go out there and leave everything on that court/field. That makes you feel good no matter who you are.

Ok, got an email back from Matt. He is not interested in joining a fantasy baseball league. However, he has no problem with us creating an "official" one. So when is everyone available for the draft? I was either thinking saturday March 15th or two weeks later with Saturday March 29th. Standard fantasy baseball rules is fine with me as well as general head-to-head matchups work as well. Yahoo leagues are forming now so let's see if we can get this thing organized in the next few days.

absolutely agree. Just found this thread odd in that it was a comparison between Peyton and Brady and Eli crashes the party.

I messaged Matt but he has not replied yet. I don't mind doing a fantasy baseball league if Matt doesn't want to come on board.

PLAYOFFS?!?!?! PLAYOFFS?!?!?! Yup. Playoffs are here sooner than people think. I love the NFL playoffs. So to me, it's never too soon to start this thread. I personally think that this is New England's playoffs to lose and the NFC will likely be decided between Dallas & Green Bay, depending on whom has the homefield advantage. I am also curious to see how some of these teams like the Giants, Bucs, and Jags, are they contenders or just pretenders? Should be an interesting year. Post your thoughts and please pick your pony as we approach the home stretch. Super Bowl XLII is Feb 3 in Arizona.

so far the answers are what I thought they would be. Miracle on Ice is clearly the biggest sports upset. I think sunday's Super Bowl ranks as high as #2 of all time based on what was on the line for the Patriots and how no one outside of NY gave the Giants a chance.
-
The 85 Bears and the 84 niners weren't going for 19-0 tho. They both lost a game in the regular season. Patriots were going for 19-0 and in a business sense, it is smart to patent that before it actually occured so that you get the profit from the 19-0 TM, not someone else. The Patriots themselves weren't cocky. The Patriots brass and boston globe were tho.

The 1985 Chicago Bears and the 1984 San Francisco 49ers went 18-1. Only thing is both those teams won their Super Bowl.

NBC started broadcasting hockey games on Jan 1st with the Winter Classic game. -
The Giants outplayed the Cowboys. The Giants outplayed the Packers. The Giants outplayed the Patriots. See where I am going with this. Non of this "GB had a chance". Yeah GB had a chance in Lambeau. They couldn't get the job done then. Giants are well deserving of being called Super Bowl Champions.

You do realize that all 32 NFL teams cheat in some form like taping practices, stealing signals. Some (the Detroit Lions) albeit don't cheat effectively. It's 2002. It's over. Kurt Warner and the Rams lost. What if the Patriots found out that Brett Favre and the Packers cheated in 1996. You want to change the outcome of the game now?? I think not.

not sure if it was the worst super bowl ever, but it has to rank up there with the first 3 quarters. Last quarter was a classic tho. When Manning escaped the sack and threw the pass to Tyree for a long completion, my jaw just dropped. You cannot measure determination.
-
i am just stunned. one of the worst played, boring super bowl had a fantastic finish. 4th quarter is downright legendary. Eli Manning has arrived. Hats off to the Giants.

www.myspace.com/superbowlads or something like that.

no kidding. The game is hard to watch. If it was a regular season game, I would be long gone. Luckily this is the super bowl and I will stick to the end with this game.
