Grand Valley State 85, Michigan State 82

I know. Just messing with ya in this thread after calling this loss just as bad as the Michigan lost to Appy State. Let me ask you this Manny. Does ohio state losing to a divison 2 school in an exhibition game, effect the "comparison" to the michigan football team loss to appy state? -

let's see if you are still saying that when the season starts. -
new england comes close with moss, stallworth, welker. I think Detroit could use a receiving TE. Someone along the like of Witten, Crumpler to add to the mix.
-
an exhibition game nevertheless. Besides, I thought this was a college football thread.
-
They can probably afford him but who do you get rid of to put A-Rod in. Inge is more than likely and I just hate to get rid of a great fielder, who had a down year last year.
-
so did Notre Dame, Penn State, Northwestern, Eastern Michigan, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota and very well could be Wisconsin and Ohio State. Whats your point Matt? At least Michigan State didn't LOSE to the Division 1-AA team.
-
Big shocker there. Dantonio is a Tressel disciple. Tressel was quoted as saying "you will be proud of our team in 310 days in Ann Arbor" and people rally around him and it works, but this quote by Dantonio is not. All about the building blocks baby. and it's 355 days.

again, where is the link? I never heard of the "moment of silence" until you brought it up. Please provide a link. That's me that said that. I have no barring on the university other than a fan of its atheltics. I have been thru this before to know that the spartans have a slip chance of making a bowl game because of their poor performance in the big ten. Hart opened his trapper and to no surprise, bad stuff came out. His comments were uncalled for. Now if you can provide me a link with this "moment of silence" crap and not just some forum or blog bs, then i will retract some of my statements.
-
I know but don't tell me the returning players dont want to make a statement next year in ann arbor tho.
-
exactly. Counting down the days til we play Michigan in Ann Arbor next year. Michigan State has bullentin board material to use for next year. If I am Dantonio, I get a posterboard or bullentin with a "363 days til Michigan" countdown ticker on it.

I havent heard anyone defend or explain why taylor was yapping after the game to Caulcrick after Jehuu rushed over the Michigan defense for 2 touchdowns in the 2nd half. Why was that necessary? Michigan should have taken the high road, broke up the book of cliches and take the win like a classy program it should be. May I suggest stuff like "we never quit to the final gun" or "we just refused to lose". Instead, Michigan ran its mouth off and threw "little brother" comments and disrespected their opponent and acted like the Florida State of the North.
-
The 2 OT losses. They played tough against Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan to the very end. Yes, their offense has disappeared at times and still make stupid mistakes but they are playing well enough to win, just not finishing games. Dantonio will either turn this program around like Marinelli has with the Lions (so far) or he will lose the team completely next year.

Comments taken out of context from Dantonio as imagined. Here is the press conference transcript and he said "I guess my message to the people out there is - when I look at the Michigan game, I would say it's not over. From my perspective, it's just starting, and it won't be over as long as I'm here at Michigan State University. We will continue to emphasize the game. " Why wouldn't you evauluate the tape. Michigan State played very well in the 2nd half. They had more yards than Michigan and held Michigan to 3 for 13 on 3rd down. They also held Heisman hopeful Hart to 110 yards and zero touchdowns. They were also up by 10 with 7 minutes left. The only thing Michigan State didn't do was finish the game. They had Michigan on the ropes and allowed them to make big plays down the stretch that cost the Spartans in the end. Why wouldn't you use the tape and study it to make your team better. different Michigan State team. The Spartans are clearly a better team than they were in 2005. Thats like comparing the 2007 detroit tigers to the 2005 tigers. Totally different team not to mention swagger.

ok after reading the link (thanks skiing-puck), I have a few comments. Dantonio's comments were not out of line. Hart was. Hart disrespected MSU and the players that played on saturday's game. He may have been trying to be funny but in turn he just made an ass out of himself. Michigan State has bullentin board material for next year. Just channel it Sparties and remember that little brother does beat big brother every once in a while and little brother plays big brother again next year. See you in Ann Arbor. He refuses to let his team just curl up and die like John L has in past, like Charlie Weis is doing this year in ND....I admire that in a coach. Mark Dantonio is a good coach.

can someone please provide a source or link for these comments? They appear to be taken out of context and just want to read the whole story, not bits and pieces.
-
link please

Didn't they try to play the Michigan-Michigan State outdoor game a few years ago at Michigan Stadium and they turned it down. Ended up playing the game at Spartan Stadium.
-
I agree. I honestly see the ending for those teams being something like this Giants 10-6 Detroit 9-7 Washington 8-8 Tampa 8-8 Carolina 7-9 I think New Orleans overtakes the NFC South and the NFC west doesn't reeally matter. Only the divison winner should make the playoffs there.
-
absolutely. It's there for the taking. Also available for a lot of other teams as well. New Orleans is looking strong lately and they are on the outside looking in, but thats the only team on the outside that is even resembling a playoff team. I hope the Washington game doesn't bite us in the ass later on.
-
I like the direction this team is going, but I am not ready to use the playoff word yet on this team. A post earlier i did said that these next 5 games will be huge in finding out if the lions are bologna or filet.
-
As for the whole negative attitude has something to do with if your team wins or loses. For example, as a Wings fan, I will admit I am spoiled when it comes to great seasons the last easily 15 years, but when you look back in the time frame..I think of the Stanley Cups...the great players and great memories that will last with me forever. On the flipside with the Lions (post-barry sanders to last year) and the Tigers (post-cecil fielder to Leyland era), the things I remember from that team aren't necessarily any winning or positive accomplishments. I easily remember how much I wanted to fire millen or the 119 loss season. A Michigan State fan focuses on having great basketball/hockey seasons because those are the sports that we are year in and year out good at and if the football team turns our head just a bit, we are happy. Lower expectations on the football team.
-
Excellent point. Your right on the Colorado loss. For me the first things to come in mind with that play is "hail mary" and "kordell stewart to michael westbrook" but thats it. I don't remember the year.
-
anyone else a little happy that Joe Torre got a good coaching job in LA. I grew up and the dodgers were always tough, I wouldn't mind them being a tough team again. Rather see the Dodgers and Giants battling for the NL West than Rockies and D-Backs.

This is a "bigger embarassment" thread, not a football entirely thread. Did you read the thread or just my last post. The comparison was with the Michigan football season loss to appy state and the michigan state exhibition loss to gv state, and which one was more embarassing, and a michigan fan brough in michigan state football. NO ONE WAS TALKING ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE FOOTBALL. Let's review -
I think we will find out the most about the lions in these next 5 games. They have 2 very winable games on the road in Arizona and Minnesota plus tough games against the NFC East best in Gianta and Cowboys at home, plus turkey day against the top team in the NFC North in the Packers. I am not gonna make any predictions on these games, just that as of right now, I don't expect the Lions to make the playoffs..but after these next 5 games, that will change if they play well. It will be fun to find out tho.
