University of Michigan - The upset - The future

I think Michigan fans are missing the point of this thread and are in unfamilar territory. I understand how you feel but resorting back to "michigan is still better than MSU" is derailing the thread. Michigan has a history of having a great football program. They have more wins than any other school. They also were in contention this year for the National Championship since the final gun in the Rose Bowl earlier this year. They scheduled Appalachian State as a season opener and a "tune-up" game for the REAL season. They were supposed to collaber ASU by 50. All this stuff didn't happen. David beat Goliath. The underdog one. The last kid picked in dodgeball turned out to be the best player. Michigan made history with this historic loss. Michigan is now unranked. The question that was asked is where does Michigan go from here. Do they fire the coaching staff? Is having a 9-3 season ok to Michigan fans? Is coming in 2nd in the Big Ten ok to Michigan fans? Ohio State clearly has a better program in recent years...are Michigan fans ok with that? -
I wouldn't mind leftwich as a backup...just as long as we didnt give up much....oh and only a 1 year contract.

Anyone know who Appalachian State plays next??? Lenoir-Rhyne!! That alone should show you why this loss was an embarrassment and Michigan football will take some time to recover. Michigan had better hope that the rest of the season has some success, otherwise coaching and recruiting success might falter. -
No, because USC would have then lost to a Div 1 school.
-
Throwing them in the title game makes them worthy of playing for the championship. Michigan, right now, doesnt even deserve to be playing for the 1-AA title and is an embarrassment to NCAA Div 1 and the Big Ten Conference.
-
It was that quote that stirred up all the attention. The computer rankings might consider them undefeated but there is NO WAY that the voters would vote Michigan in, even if Michigan wins out. How can you crown the National Champion of Divison 1, who can't even beat a team from 1-AA?

Finally, someone said it. English and the defense were way overrated and I have been waiting for a Michigan fan to finally admit it. USC might have one of the best college teams ever. No way does Michigan stand a chance against them. -
You said Michigan has an "outside shot" at the NC game. No one else backed you up, even the michigan fans.

Exactly. I come in year in and year out and am loyal to Michigan State THROUGHOUT the year. Yeah it's tough being a Michigan State football fan but I don't wavor and I don't hide. Green and White to the end. as Mickey Redmond would say "whatta total idiot". Michigan's main rival is Ohio State, always has and always will be. If Michigan were to go 6-6, State went 5-7 and Ohio State went 10-2...do you really think that Michigan having a better record than State would be the "only thing that really matters"??? HELLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOO!! State also only plays 12 games on the schedule, 13 if you count a bowl game. How can you say that they will be 2-18?? This poster is an embrassment to all Michigan football fans here. -

A question I have tho is that enough for Michigan fans. If UM wins out, beats Ohio State and wins the Big Ten title...goes on to beat California in the Rose Bowl, is the season a success? -
LSU is a damn good football team but it is still a long season. LSU can easily lose to Florida or Alabama and they could slaughter them all. Like Saturday showed Michigan fans, you can't predict how these games are gonna go. Since no one is really talking about Michigan State, I will post my opinions on last saturday's game against UAB. MSU got off to the start they needed. The running game impressed me on how they just ran, ran, ran the ball. Caulcrick and Ringer very well could be the best 1-2 tailback combo in NCAA. Still just UAB but I like what I see from the new coach.

App State cannot be in a BCS game...they are not even in Divison 1. IMO, Michigan will finish with 2-3 losses...play in the Outback or Capital One Bowl and Lloyd Carr will be fired at the end of this season. -
Agreed, thats why i said Michigan's best bet is to win out and make the Rose Bowl. It was Eva that said Michigan still had an outside shot at the championship game.
-
read above. Thats why the game is at Royal Oak. They are not having a game at the CoPa this year.
-
ok we got Vladdy16 interested...anyone else??
-
While I agree with your comments Jack, this forum has also been hearing from ever Michigan fan saying that "this is the year...National Championship year" and with their best players being Seniors, they had every right to make such a bold prediction....and then their hopes and dreams crashed right in the opener.
-
If I was a voter...yes, I would perfer to see a team with 2 losses to Divison 1 teams in before I would EVER allow Michigan with their 1 loss to a Div 1-AA school. That loss saturday might as well have been 3 losses. Inexcusable. As U-M running back Mike Hart said: "When you lose to a team like that, a Division I-AA team, how can you win the national championship in Division I?"
-
Not the same one. This time last year it was at Comerica Park.
-
While I agree with you in losing early is better than losing late...losing to a I-AA school is going to weigh heavy on the minds of the poll voters. How can anyone seriously give Michigan a shot at the National Title after this?? Michigan's best bet is to win the rest of their games and go to the Rose Bowl, no title chance.
-
Michigan holds a lot of NCAA football records. They can add worst loss ever by a divison 1 school. Carr's job is seriously in jeopardy.
-
WOW!! Never saw this loss coming, as sure as everyone else. While I have a lot of Michigan fans in here, I will spare the piling on and just say don't jump off the ledge. The season is not over, just your national championship hopes. Why? Michigan State won convincingly
