how exactly do you replace guys like Green and Walker. I remember a few years ago we (Lions) had a hard time replacing Barry Sanders. And as far as the Packers having a dominant defense. No they don't, but they are better than a lot of other teams out there, especially the Lions. Nothing wrong about having a signature. I happen to think that Tim is a good name.

Same thing can be said about the Lions. Led the league in sacks allowed this year and last in rushing yards last year. They fired the OL coach and brought in some new players in Foster and Muitalalo(sp) to fill the void as well as the addition of Tatum Bell and TJ Duckett. If their O-Line is ranked more like halfway instead of last in the league, they can be a decent NFL team.

damn...missed all the smack talk. I don't what you two are fighting about. My ADOPTED team in New Englad is gonna win it all this year. I will still root for the Lions tho. The sad thing with being a Lions fan is the talent HAS BEEN THERE. But its not been put together. Detroit has made several moves that even the GM of the year would make. Just cursed I guess. IMO, the Packers lost the most talent a few years ago in the 2 guards that left. If they can fill that void, then I dont see any reason why they can't be a decent team that can just throw anyone there at halfback and have decent games. All about the O-Line baby!!

Kitna is gonna have a better season then people give him credit. Pick him up for your fantasy football team this year.

not as good as the charity baseball games last few seasons but still glad to see them raising money. thank you for posting.

Fluke eh? What if the years were reversed and the Tigers played like this last year. Fans would still be going crazy because the Tigers havent been that good until lately. I like this Tigers run and they can just compete for the divison year in and year out, its a far cry from the 90s .....and it will make my summer go by nicer.
-
The lions will have 6 to 9 wins this year. 9 wins are enough to win a divison every now and then so yea, the lions have a shot to win the divison this year. Do i think it will happen?? NO! Defense wins divison and hence the Bears will win the divison.
-
Drew Stanton probably wouldnt have played this regular season anyway. Kitna, while not a great QB, is reliable. I worry what the Lions would do if Kitna was injuried for a long time.
-
what about Stan Mikita?? He has to be up there with the greatest European players of all time.
-
good post. I agree with most of your comments. As far as Bly being traded, Bly wanted out and his departure will hurt a ton. That being said. I still think the divison standings will look like this. Chicago 10-6 Detroit 6-10 Green Bay 6-10 Minnesota 3-13 Lions still finish 2nd place despite having a bad record. Chicago gets knocked out in the first round and the NFC champs get slaughtered in the Super Bowl.

since when does the preseason have 6 games??? tatum bell is a quality back. Not sure anymore about Duckett. If he can be another Zack Crockett like the Raiders had during their Rich Gannon years, then I will be happy.
-
I agree 100% NFM25. The reason why I can't stand Favre and want to retire is because he is just that damn good. I really think the Packers missed a golden opportunity when they passed up a chance to get Randy Moss. If you give Brett one big target on this team, your team automatically jumps from just a team hoping for 8-9 wins to being a favorite to win the divison. By default, I see the Bears winning this divison but they also took a huge gamble when they got rid of Thomas Jones. The combo of Jones and Benson led them to the Super Bowl. Without that combo, they are clearly not the same team.

While it was nice to see the lions comeback, still preseason and they still have a lot to prove to me before i will ever get my hopes up again.
-
this is the year that the pack finish 3rd or 4th with the Vikes....meaning....THE LIONS WILL FINISH 2ND...too bad that a 6-10 or 7-9 record would be worthy enough for 2nd place in this divison.

anyone else think that a school like Pitt or Cincinnati would be a good fit for the Big Ten??
-
I have often thought that Syracuse or Pitt would be a good fit. That way your divisons could look like this. East Syracuse Penn State Ohio State Michigan Michigan State Indiana or Purdue West Northwestern Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota Iowa Purdue or Indiana Article Jim Harbaugh, coach of Stanford and former Michigan QB, says USC is the best team .........in college football history. I personally don't see it compared to the powerhouse teams of past and/or too early to call them the best ever but curious to know what your opinion is.

Calvin Johnson will sign as soon as top pick Russell in Oakland signs. Russell sets the precedent or curve so to speak. Stanton has no excuse on why he isnt there yet. Stanton has a good chance of being the QB after Kitna, especially if he plays well.

Ray Bourque did nothing in leading the bruins. Yzerman returned the pride and sense of honor to wear the winged wheel. That cannot be measured. 3 best captains clearly are Messier, Yzerman, and Bourque. You decide what order they fit but hard to find anyone else deserving of being amongst the three.
-
For most of his career tho, Yzerman was not a defensive forward. It wasn't until Scotty came on board that things changed.
-
paul coffey is in the top 5 defenseman IMO regardless of his defensive numbers.
-
thats the same logic i used when i came up with my list. I weight points per game high when i consider the greatest player of nhl history.
-
1.88 points per game. Only other player that I can think of that has had more points per game is Gretzky. Mario would be 2nd best in my list if his career hadn't been interrupted. Another player that I am surprised is not higher is Mike Bossy. 573 goals, 553 assists, 1126 points and retired at the age of 30. I have often wondered what his career numbers would have been, had back problems didnt cut his career short.
-
Yzerman compared to Bourque would be a good arguement. Bourque was captain for a long time of the Bruins, but what did his team really accomplish. nothing. Messier won 6 stanley cups. That is incredible regardless of who you are and what team you have.
-
Messier is the best captain in nhl history. Yzerman is 2nd best.
