They were desperate just to make the playoffs. That was a big enough goal to accomplish for them.

First mistake is going to ESPN to get your NHL news. Since when does ESPN know hockey.

People forget that the Lions have actually had decent drafts during the Millen era. Look at the 2002 draft. EVERYONE thought the Lions got the best player in Harrington. Biggest thing Harrington needed was a weapon. Thats why the 2003 draft was so good in the Lions got Joey the WR he needed in Rogers. The 2004 draft was the best one by far in that the Lions got Roy Williams early and then traded up to grab one of the best RB in the draft in Kevin Jones. Awesome draft. The 2005 draft got everyone thinking that with Rogers, Roy, and Mike catching the ball and Kevin running it. .how can the Lions be stopped. 2006 draft was the only one I wasnt too thrilled with but I understand the defense approach in the moves. Bottomline is under the Millen era, the Lions have drafted players that the media and fans want them to. They get an A or a B on their drafts. Its taking that talent and turning them into wins is where they are failing miserably.

Should Sergei Fedorov's number be retired in the future?

I actually will agree with you on this one. People forget that when they look at goalie stats for wings, the top two goalies are Sawchuk and Osgood. No way am I saying that Ozzie is worthy to be compared to Sawchuk but Osgood has been very good for the Red Wings for a very long time. -
COOL! Can't miss that. Understandable. I am sorry.

I will attempt to ask my boss about getting out at 3pm instead of 5pm on Saturday. Might work because I have been there a while now and never asked to leave early before, plus they mentioned earlier this week about cutting hours. I wouldnt mind having a get together at Mr. Bs Spectadium in Troy. Lots of big screen tvs and always had a blast having wingschat parties of the past in there. In fact, I have been talking to a lot with a former member of the old wingschat party planning crew and she might come along to for the next LGW party. I'll keep you posted.

I would love that move if the Lions can pull it off. I think Peterson and Quinn are the only players I DON'T want the Lions to draft.

I work til 5pm on saturday so I wouldnt be able to meet up until after then. I am in favor of having a meeting point in northern end tho like say Utica or Troy. Tigers play a home game at 1pm that day too. Parking might be tough around hockeytown cafe.

was that you going WOO HOO?

am i the only one that did a double take on the thread title? "the biggest problem with OUT team". I think you have used an extra minute making sure the thread was correct before posting this.

well oviously it has to be the equipment manager or his assistant. I really doubt if any of the other Red Wings want Lidstrom's cup.

I don't even like shootouts in the regular season. It is insane to think that a team that wins a game 7-0 in regulation gets the same amount of points as one that eeeks out a 3-2 Shootout OT win. Why would I want it in the playoffs. Absolutely NO.

good to see most of are thinking on the same page about Stanton. I mean, I loved the guy at MSU...but I just dont think he fits this system. The Lions have tried too many times in the past to draft a QB and then build a system around him. The problem has been that the Lions dont have a o-line in which to begin the system. The play is done when the ball is snapped. Draft Joe Thomas from Wisconsin. Get a few more Defensive lineman and sneak in a QB like Edwards in round 2 or 3.

While I want the Lions to go after a QB in the draft, I don't want them to waste their top pick on a QB. Second round or later is a different story. Trent Edwards or Drew Stanton are alright for me in the 2nd round. While I would love to see the Lions draft Drew, I think they are better off with Trent Edwards. Stanton tries to force the play too many times and we certain don't need a QB who throws a lot of interceptions. His athletic ability tho is the reason to draft him. Amazing talent. Trent Edwards after watching footage of him, seems to be a better QB prospect. He has passing abilities that rank right up their with the top 2 players. The only knock on him is injuries and inconsistencies in games. Could even be a late round steal in the draft. What does everyone else think? The Lions need a QB and to me as long as they don't draft Russell or Quinn, I am fine with whomever is left.

nice comeback for the Tigs tonight...against one of the best closers in baseball. Build on this win team.

article Interesting article from Albom on the wings. Surprised it was missed in these boards today.

oh ok. Didn't know. Thanks VIB16

i wonder how many of the hockey media are retracting their statements on the wings being soft like previous playoff years. Way to go team. I am impressed big time.

wings need to keep their heads up...the flames are pissed.

one of the best periods of playoff hockey i have seen in a while. keep it up guys!
-
damn...300 replies and the game hasnt even started. It must be playoff time.

I agree. Leyland out on the mood is a momentum killer for the other side. The only other time in sports I have seen that happen locally is with MSU basketball when Izzo calls a time out. Good things happen after the stoppage of play.

Did you watch the whole game or just the end?? Leaving 12 men left on base, swinging at a lot of bad pitches hardly classifies as an "excellent game". What the Tigers did do is win a tight game when it mattered. Its games like these that will add up in October.

Anyone want to do a red wings playoff party similar to what we did last year?? (hopefully it works this year) I was thinking Sunday April 1. Wings play Columbus at 12:30pm that day. I don't mind taking over the reins in setting it up and making reservations just as long as we got people going.
