Couple of things. #1 The Tigers are the soup of the day. What happened last year was so off the radar and such a miracle season that the buzz around town was better than any of the wings previous seasons, including the cup ones. #2 The lockout and lack of depth in the playoffs have turned off a lot of red wing fans. They sorta have established the "wake me up when its the cup finals approach". Red Wing fans are spoiled by their success. #3 Tiger tickets are still reasonable and you can take the whole family to a game. The same cannot be said about the Red Wings. You have to take out a loan to take a family of 4 to a game. If the Lions ever turned it around and made it into the playoffs or the Super Bowl. Detroit would be Lion Country. People need to just ignore articles like these. Just except their are a lot of sports fans who aren't necessarily hockey fans. Bottom line: Cheer for whatever team you want to.

Link I can't believe it has been 10 years since the Red Wings-Avalanche brawl of 1997. This game has to go down as one of the biggest Red Wing games in history. Where we you when this happened? What are your thoughts on this game 10 years later? For me personally, I didn't watch this game live. I didn't have PASS. I remember hearing about it after the game and set the VCR to record the game on PASS's replay the next day. I don't think we would have won the cup that year if not for this game. This game served a purpose and I think Mike Vernon summed up the game best in this "brought the Red Wings together in time for the playoffs".

ok this topic struck a nerve. While the Ducks are a very physical team, probably toughest this season, they are not even close to being the best ever. The rules are changed to prevent teams from clutching, grabbing, holding and countless other things you dare wouldnt do to a stranger in the street unless you have a thing for jail time. To me, to find the toughest team in NHL history...look no further than the Broad Street Bullies of the 1970s. They reached records in penalty minutes that are never going to be matched nor broke and rightfully earned their nickname.

Article Nice to see him think so highly for Filppula. I have to agree with his prediction on him. If he can just get some more experience and ice time to grow into becoming an NHL player, he will be a good player. Would be nice to have the wings built around the forward trio of Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Filppula.

could very well be "duck ice" that was said. The ice was in terrible shape yesterday. Seemed like everytime there was a break in action, the refs were fixing the ice.

Thanks. It looked like what I thought had happened and it was just a late hit. Yeah but did you see the goalie in green. Made some great saves for a youngster. Ah NO. That is a contest I wont ever participate in.

On the Lilja fight. I give props to Lilja for fighting but Moen won that fight. Lilja got a great first punch in but it was all downhill from there. I love how lilja was holding on to Moen's leg begging not to beat him up to a bloody pulp. Does anyone know what started the whole thing. It looked like a simple scrum at the end of the 1st period and then next thing I know, Lilja is challenging Moen.

Yes. Got one. Tried to get 2 but a kid eyed the one I was going to get. Not going to take a towel from a kid. Crowd was loud in spurts. Loud in the beginning to honor Chelios. Also loud during the Lilja fight and the Datsyuk goal. The intensity was just like a playoff game in the arena. Yes I was!

Going old school on me Matt. I forgot that Redmond was going down to the interview. I thought that was Ray Lane doing the interviews. I am with you on they missed having Dave Strader. I was so mad when Strader left. I thought the combo of Redmond and Strader was 2nd to none.

was I the only one that didn't have PASS back then? I remember being so angry with my dad for not getting PASS like I wanted him to but he always would say "why? so you can watch all the Tiger games??" After the game and playoff run, I convinced my dad to get me PASS only to find out that I didn't need it anymore in the 97-98 season.

still my favorite part of the brawl is when roy and shanny got into it. I love how they collided and basically spun around. Great stuff!
