The thing to remember in the FINAL BCS poll is that the human element is a huge factor. Some of the coaches throughout the season just vote to get it over with or don't even vote at all until the end. Their mindset thru the season is "who is #2 now", but when it comes to the end they think different. They vote on "who is the #2 team all year long". Yes, they also look at "what have you done for me lately" and with Michigan not on the field in forever it seems, hurt them. The thing that gets me for those people crying for a playoff. If you have a playoff system, then basically your saying that a lot of games during the season DON'T MATTER. Michigan and Ohio State would have rested a ton of their players in order to save them for the playoffs. Do we really want a Michigan-Ohio State game with a bunch of walk on's playing. Like betterRED and Hockeytown said. You lose once, early or late...it hurts you. No other college or pro sport is like that. That is more of the rarity that the BCS actually works. I don't see nothing wrong with having Penn State getting a title shot by beating Texas and then having to play USC. PSU would have gotten crushed and it would still have texas and usc in the title game.....or PSU would have beat texas and usc and no one could argue that they wouldnt have earned it after beating those two titans.

Interesting discussions. While I don't like the thought of a playoff system, I have no problem with an "and 1" system. No one argues that Ohio State is the #1 team in the country, but the real debate is who is #2. Here is what you do differently. --Have the BCS determine who is #1 in the nation. That #1 gets a bye week and doesnt play in the Fiesta, Sugar, Orange or Rose Bowl. --Have a rotating bowl "advancement game" featuring #2 and #3 in the BCS, this year being Florida and Michigan....they can play in say Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan 1st. --The other bowl games mean nothing in the National Championship game. --Have the winner of the "advancement game" play the #1 team on Jan 8th for the national championship. The computers, coaches and harris polls can all determine the BCS just like they do now but looking at the system, its not a debate on who is #1, but #2 rather. This system allows for the bowl games and to have the best teams play on the field to determine the championship.

Yup. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa and Purdue would be in one divison leaving Indiana, MSU, Michigan, OSU, PSU and the 6th team (West Va, Sryacuse, Pitt) in the other divison. Its ok Lou. I looked at Eva's post and I immediately wanted to reply on the CMU vs Tennessee matchup but decided to fix the comparison that Eva obviously fixed in Michigan's favor. To compare how big the Florida-Florida State game is to the Michigan-Northwestern game is a joke. The USC-UCLA game is proof right there that when its a rival game, all bets are off.

While I look forward to reading your posts, are you sure you aren't just fixing the numbers for Michigans favor. My comparison would be this. Losses: Ohio State....Auburn Edge: Michigan x2 (Michigan's loss to OSU is worth double in this comparison) Wins starting with the biggest win Notre Dame.....Arkansas (Michigan road win, florida neutral field) Edge: Michigan (Wolverines opened everyone's eyes after going to South Bend and wooping the Irish) Conference games: Wisconsin....LSU (both home games) Edge: Florida (Wisconsin didn't play anyone this year) Penn State....Tennessee (both biggests conference road wins) Edge: Florida ( Tennessee went 9-3 compared to PSU's 8-4) Minnesota....Georgia (michigan road win, florida neutral field) Edge: Florida (Georgia went 8-4) Indiana...Kentucky (Michigan road win, florida home) Edge: Florida (Kentucky is bowl bound) Iowa...South Carolina (both home wins) Edge: Florida (Iowa had a down year) Northwestern....Alabama (both home wins) Edge: Florida (Bama is allways a tough team to beat) Instate rival games: Michigan State.....Florida State (Michigan home win, Florida road win) Edge: Florida (MSU is no FSU) Non-Conference games: Central Michigan...Southern Miss (both home games) Edge: Michigan (CMU won their conference) Ball State...UCF (both home wins) Edge: Florida (Florida shutout UCF while Michigan barely beat Ball State) and finally...both teams played Vanderbilt (Michigan home win, Florida road win) Edge: Michigan (Michigan dominated in their first game while Florida only beat vandy by 6) And tallying up the score...... Florida beats Michigan 8-5

I take it you are comparing big ten's worst (Northwestern, Michigan State and Illinois) compared to (Vanderbilt, Mississippi and Mississippi State). I will agree with you that the big ten's worst are better than the sec's worst. But one problem....Michigan played Northwestern and Michigan State while Florida only played Vanderbilt of those six teams....oh and Michigan played Vanderbilt too.

Florida is #4 team across the board. Michigan was pretty much #3. Both teams will move up ahead of #2 USC but which team will move up the most. That will have the biggest impact in the BCS.

I know I am going to get some replys from this, but I think Florida deserves the #2 slot ahead of Michigan. Here is why: ---Michigan didn't really beat anyone. Aside from ND and Wisconsin, who did they beat. Notre Dame blew it in big games (against Michigan, USC) and Wisconsin...has there ever been a more overrated 11-1 team. Florida beat 3 teams in the top 13 and had the highest opponent winning percentage in the NCAA. --Florida won their conference. Michigan is a 2nd place team. Both teams have the same conference record. --Speaking of conferences. The SEC has 6 teams with 8 wins or more. The Big Ten has 5. The SEC also has 2 teams with 7 wins with Big Ten having none. --Florida is riding a 6 game winning streak. Michigan is on a 1 game losing streak. --Michigan blew their chance against Ohio State. --And finally, is the BCS really going to screw Urban Meyer again?? The only thing I can really find in Michigan's favor is that the Wolverines lost by 3 pts to the #1 team in the land.

what kills me is that Florida, while up by 10 in the 4th is no longer looking just to win the game...but to win it big to get "style points"

WOW!! No one saw this one coming. Now what does the BCS do. Michigan owes UCLA big time.

Good job MSU. Mark Dantonio is a solid pick as coach. Working for Tressel no doubt helped too.

Todd Grantham is a decent choice. He used to be assistant head coach during Nick Saban's era. There is a lot worse coaches out there but likely that Todd will choose MSU as a possible stepping stone to a NFL head coaching job or higher NCAA coaching job. Still, better than John WLLLLLLLLLL Smith!!!

Boise State is heading to Fiesta Bowl. I think the Rose Bowl will pick Michigan for sure and Notre Dame for ratings. They could pick LSU to play Michigan but I doubt it. Notre Dame gets in because they only lost 2 games to 2 of the top teams in the NCAA and because SEC can't have 3 teams there. The Big East teams (West Va/Rutgers/Louisville) are weaker than Notre Dame so it would surprise me if they earned 2 teams this year and the ACC/Big 12 weren't all that there this year. Running out of teams that could get a shot in.

some errors in your bowl predictions. -Big 12 Winner (nebraska or Oklahoma) are heading to Fiesta bowl and the BCS doesn't allow 3 teams from one conference to be featured in the BCS bowl games. (I looked it up its a rule) here is the way the BCS bowls are going to play out: National Championship----Ohio State vs USC Fiesta Bowl---Boise State vs Nebraska Rose Bowl---Michigan vs Notre Dame Sugar Bowl---Florida vs Louisville Orange Bowl--- Georgia Tech vs LSU

well so much for Arkansas. Lost to LSU and looks now like its either going to be USC/Florida/Michigan facing Ohio State now.

Detroit Lions, NFL 2006 Season Thread

For the past few years, NFL fans kept asking for either the Thanksgiving game to be rotated so Detroit or Dallas doesn't necessarily have it OR add a 3rd game to the mix. They did that. They added a 3rd game. Give it up gowingsgo. NFL does well in ratings even during the Lions thanksgiving game. Fans want to watch football, regardless of what it is. Why mess with traditions.

Don't whine about the Lions and Cowboys. YOU GOT YOUR WISH!! all the "why do we have to watch the Lions and Cowboys on Thanksgiving" moaning has paid off. You have a game tonight which doesn't feature both teams and the night game will be adjusted year after year so your steelers will be featured every once in a while.

not a bad idea. Is it too early to talk about the 2007 NFL Draft. Anyone think that Brady Quinn would like nice as a Lions QB.

Not only that but bowl games. Michigan wins the Rose Bowl and they have to split it with the conference. Notre Dame gets 100% of the money being an independant

Plus most states have two teams..ie Michigan and Michigan State, Illinois and Northwestern, Indiana and Purdue.

I always thought that Sryacuse would be a good fit in the Big Ten conference. They have a solid basketball team and every once in a while have a good football team.

What I don't want is for Michigan to beat Ohio State on Jan 8th. Then who the hell is National Champions. Under that scenario, Ohio State can claim a share of the title and Michigan would have a tranished championship. Here is a scenario that would favor a Michigan-Ohio State rematch. USC beats Notre Dame, loses to UCLA. Arkansas loses to LSU, beats Florida. Hard to argue any other team deserving to be #2. oh BTW, Michigan is going to run the table next year. They will go undefeated, beat Ohio State and win the National Championship. Senior year for Hart and Henne ...and Manningham will be tough to stop. Michigan in 2007!!
