No need. You don't celebrate when you beat little brother.
-
This team has national championship potential. They're not the front runner, but if this team is firing on all cylinders, they are tough to beat.

Live by the 3, die by the 3. UM shot 16.7% from behind the arc tonight. Add in Walton's lockdown defense on Manny Harris, and it was another MSU victory at Breslin East. Good thing UM fans don't consider us a rival and/or don't care about basketball. Otherwise they might be upset.

Call your doctor, they need to up the dosage of your meds.

:ranting: Word on the street is that Hightower is reffing tonight :ranting:

Comparing college hockey and professionall hockey is comparing apples to oranges. Yes, they're both hockey programs, but that's about where it ends. The NHL is ultimately a business. The first goal of every NHL owner is to have their team end the season in the black. Winning the Cup or a nice playoff run certainly helps a team accomplish this goal, but the bottom line is, the bottom line. That is why season tickets, luxury boxes, and corporate support are so important. It's money up front and money from a consistent source. As far as college sports, they generally don't operate under the same constraints as the NHL does. In the NCAA, many (probably a majority) of athletic departments do not turn a profit. Turning a profit in a sport that isn't football or basketball is even tougher. They can operate at a loss because they don't have to play by the same rules a business does. After a quick search, I couldn't find the prices for Maine tickets. However, it looks like the most expensive ticket for a North Dakota/Colorado College game is $22.50. Obviously, a NHL team can't get away with charging $22.50 for the most expensive tickets. Population isn't the only factor in where to put a team, and I never claimed it should be. It would be short sighted. Just like thinking that just because a team is located in a cold weather city, they'd automatically be a good place for a team. Hockey culture is a factor, as is population, and as is corporate support. Green Bay is an exception to the rule. You can't plop another team down in a place the size of Green Bay and expect another following like the Packers.

For the same reason the NHL would put a team in North Dakota or Maine. There's snow there. For a lot of people, that seems to be the only qualification a city needs.
-
I see three potential problems for State. 1: The 1-3-1 zone. It's given State trouble all year. 2: No Raymar Morgan. It's not as bad as missing Suton earlier in the year, but he will be missed. 3: If Ed Hightower refs the game. Then we can look for another game where MSU shoots 4 free throws and UM shoots 25.

While I realize it's last on your list, there would need to be a major expansion of Van Andel for it to be suitable for a NHL team. There's less than 50 boxes, and I believe the total seating is just under 11,000. Good for an AHL team, but not an NHL team.

Maine? North Dakota? The entire population of North Dakota is 100,000 people less than the city of Austin. Even adding in South Dakota, you still have a population that is less than Metro Detroit area. No way you'd have the corporate support either that's so important. Maine isn't much better either. If a NHL team is interested in moving, they would be more than welcome in Houston. NHL ready arena, good corporate support, youth hockey is booming in Texas, large population, built in rival with Dallas, and Texas is one of the few states where the economy isn't completely going to s***.
-
You and me both. Hopefully when I get my brewery started, it can make Texas a better state. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen for a while. Right now my distribution is limited to friends who want to try my beer.
-
What the hell are you talking about? Actually...I don't really care. Original point stands. If you want to be the cyber pimp with Ms. Hockey, take it to PM, and don't derail the thread anymore.

I like St. Arnold out of Houston. The only beer of theirs I don't really care for is the Lawnmower, but I'm not a big fan of kolsch beers anyway, they're too sweet for me. Real Ale out of Blanco isn't bad. I like their Fireman's #4 a lot. I haven't tried any of their seasonal beers though, I can't seem to find them around me. And there's always Shiner. I know there's a microbrewery up in Fort Worth and a couple in Austin, but they don't seem to distribute around me. For whatever reason, Texas doesn't seem to be a great beer state. People love to drink beer, but there's just not a lot in the way of craft brewing. At least not like there was in Michigan.
-
Oh yeah. I love their beers. I also tried the Winter Stout from St. Arnold. It has quickly become my new favorite stout.

why can't the NHL have a salary cap like baseball?

Heh, that's a good point. If they Wings went back to an 80 million dollar payroll, there's no way in hell the ticket prices would go down. -
Good for him. I'm glad I was never good enough at sports to play in a league where parents cared.
-
Just tried some Oaked Arrogant Bastard. Holy s***, that's good stuff

Sell. The Yankees haven't won since 2000. They used to win using mostly homegrow players. Now they've been trying to buy every star to hit the market and it hasn't worked. Good. f*** them.

I can understand why he did it too. If he ran down the aisle and hopped over the boards, I'd call that heat of the moment. He had every right to be upset. He just didn't handle it in the best way, and like Conboy and Tropp, he's paying the price as well.
-
I saw an interview with Tropp where he said he was going to talk with MSU after the season and he was hoping to come back. As far as Kampfer's dad, apparently he and Tropp actually had a physical altercation. Sorry, but it wasn't heat of the moment. He had to get out of his seat, find his way to the MSU lockerroom, and then make the decision to attack Tropp. It was certainly was more pre-mediated than the attack by Conboy and Tropp. I'd have to imagine that he'll be allowed back next year as well.
-
Both Conboy and Tropp are no longer with MSU. Kampfer's father has been given a Criminal Trespass Warning (or whatever they call it in MI) that he's not allowed on campus. The Ann Arbor PD and UM public safety have stated they won't file charges. And Kampfer is supposed to play this weekend (last I had heard).
