    Datsyuk in tears?

Fortunately, Zetterberg and Datsyuk (and Hossa) seem to care more about winning a Cup. And a reason not to put Zetterberg on the second line is he might get the other players to play better, and ask for raises. Kids, this is why you don't get high and post.

But...but...but...it's college football season. I actually have about 6 weeks to lose the weight. Other than beer, I generally eat pretty healthy. It's doable I suppose.

^^^ I'm working on getting back on track as well. I was down to about 167. Last time I checked I was at 173, and that was before last weekend, which didn't help. My problem as been A) I live farther from my gym. I used to live 3 minutes, now I live 15; B) work has really been picking up for both myself and the fiancee. We're just drained at the end of the day, the last thing we want to do is battle the crowd to work out. I don't think I'm going to make my target weight of 150 by my wedding. But if I can get back in 165 range, I'll be happy enough.

Will it not be extremely hard to repeat?

Repeating isn't easy. You played 2 extra months and everything still has to go right in the regular season. The Wings are built for a repeat though.

I've somehow ended up with Rudi Johnson on my fantasy team the last few years. He's not nearly as good as he used to be. This isn't a bad move, since he's still better than Bell. But I'm not getting too excited.

Agreed on both points. Although to be fair to JLS, I don't think he's a horrible coach, he does have 132-86 lifetime record. But he was clearly not the right man for the job at MSU. And I do think RR is a better coach. MSU still runs some spread formations under Dantonio, they just don't run it exclusively anymore. I like Dantonio because I think he's got a good balance of the run and the pass, and mixing up formations. I'm thinking Rutgers/Fresno State is going to be a good game. Unfortunately I'm going to be traveling and miss it. It will be interesting to see how Rutgers does without Ray Rice. Go RU!

Sounds like John L. Smith football. When MSU running the spread was on, it was a lot of fun to watch. But it could make for some long games, and seasons. It will be interesting how DickRod plays out in Ann Arbor and how much time he gets, especially since he wasn't the first choice for UM. My gut feeling is he's either going to be amazing and earn UM some national titles that aren't backdated. Or he's going to have a John L. Smith flameout. It's going to be spectacular one way or the other.

Yup. The last time the Lions made the playoffs was 1999 where they lost in the wildcard game. And its been almost 20 years since the Lions first and only playoff victory.

I was at the MSU/Cal game. Tough loss. Dantonio has this program moving in the right direction, but like I've said before, its going to take a while to undue the damage that has been done. The weather was perfect and there were a ton of Spartan fans there. I've read its estimated there were about 10,000. Cal's stadium is a dump, its like a small version of Michigan's. Not much in the way of tailgating either. Cal's running game and defense impressed me a lot. Jahvid Best was an absolute beast. If that guy even saw a sliver of running room, he was gone. The other back, Vereen looked pretty good as well. The d-line and linebackers shut down Ringer. I think MSU is going to miss Caulcrick more than they thought. For MSU, Dell looked good. I didn't think there was enough evidence to overturn his touchdown. The refs were pretty bad, but they didn't lose the game for MSU. And cheer up, Michigan fans. Sure, UM getting beat with their fancy new coach was the second college football story on Sportscenter. And sure they talked about App State all day. At least you weren't Texas A&M. Mike Sherman's first game back in Aggieland and they lose to Arkansas State. Ouch. That's much worse than Utah. Overall, it was a poor showing by the Big 10 in competitive games. They beat up on cupcake teams. But MSU, UM, and Illinois all losing to good teams doesn't look good.

How long did the closing ceremonies actually last? I watched a little bit at the gym last night. Damn, Jimmy Page is looking old.

Bertuzzi disobeyed Crawford's orders in Moore attack

College hockey has less fighting for a couple reasons. It's an automatic one game suspension, and I'd have to think that mandatory cages/full visors make it tough to fight. The CCHA at least has had a crackdown on checking from behind lately though.

The white and yellow ones are pretty sharp. What's the shoulder patch, a M with hockey sticks behind it?

Bertuzzi disobeyed Crawford's orders in Moore attack

Generally speaking, courts in the US and Canada have ruled that a player injured during a "routine" fight in a hockey game will not be successful in a lawsuit.

Still Bitter about Game 5 loss

Shanny? He never struck me as the type who'd drive a Ferrari though. That's more of Fedorov's style.

Bertuzzi disobeyed Crawford's orders in Moore attack

Crawford is such a goon. I don't think he told Bertuzzi or anyone else on the Nucks to break Moore's neck, but I have no doubt he encouraged the "hunting down" of Moore.

He's not saying Phelps can go straight from the pool to the NBA or anything like that. The point is that Phelps is a freaky good natural athlete, and just having that going for him, he's probably going to be better than the average person at whatever sports he tried.

ND will improve, if for no other reason than they can't get much worse. Even with their easy schedule, I don't think they'll do that great. 6-6 at best.

No. We beat the Huskies last year. Losing to GVSU sucked (sort of, since I have degrees from MSU and GVSU) but in the scheme of things, it's not going to be remembered like the App State loss will.

^^^ Yeah, homebrew is the best. I have a buddy who's been doing it probably 8-9 years and he's made some incredible stuff. I was planning on starting doing homebrew myself after the new year, but a possible change in my job may put the homebrew on hold, again. I wouldn't rave about it, but on a hot day, it really hit the spot.
