Good god, when did this fan base become such a bunch of tea-sipping nancy's? "I dare say, Nigel; can you believe the audacity of those uncouth Nashville fans?" [sips tea, picks up a crumpet] "Quite right you are, old chap. Why just last game, they dared to infer that our netminder was not up to par. Why can't they be more like us stuffy Wings fans, sitting on our hands all in an effort to be classy."
-
Actually, in the late 90's when the Yankees were winning the World Series seemingly every year, they were doing it with homegrown talent. After they decided to start buying up expensive players, they stopped winning it all.

Huge, huge outing by the bullpen last night
-
Wow. That's very original. I'm impressed. No one has ever thought of a sign like that before. Where do you come up with such witty ideas?
-
^^^ Was it because of the money the Wings spend, or the fact that the Wings win a lot? I haven't heard the Wings called the Yankees of the NHL in terms of spending in a few years, since the cap was introduced.
-
I'll cheer for the Astros since they're the closest team. I like the Braves because of John Smoltz. And, I cheer for the Rays because they need all the fans they can get. But I only casually cheer for them. I'm not a diehard like I am with the Tigers.

Not to get too off topic, but that's kind of creepy if its his sister. Back on topic, the Wings aren't going to be the most physical team in the playoffs, but there's enough grit there to win.

Probably one of those stories that it depends on who you ask. The version I've heard from MSU fans is that Lerg was going to go to UM, but Red either didn't offer him a full scholarship, or wanted to red shirt him. Something along those lines. I'm sure UM fans have a different take on what happened, so who knows what the truth actually is.
-
Agreed. And too often, those people who don't want the NHL outside of Canada, the northeast, and the upper midwest are the same who cry about the lack of exposure the NHL gets in the mainstream media. Let's see, you want the NHL to be a major player, but don't want it to have teams outside a certain area. Makes perfect sense. Anyway, to get back on topic. No way should the playoffs expand. I think limiting the number of teams and giving some first round byes would be the way to go. But, since that will never happen, leave the playoffs as they are. Although I like joshy207's divisions.

Similar to UM fans, thinking that National Championships earned during a time when they played high schools are somehow relavant today? But seriously, I do agree with you. MSU is still a top hoops program, but they're not a UNC, UCLA, etc.
-
Nice job by the CCHA last night. UM wins the game they're supposed to and MSU and ND get the upsets.
-
I can't believe what happened to MSU last night. I feel so bad for Neitzel to go out like that. And BRTD, I won't argue with you that some MSU hoops have gotten kind of obnoxious lately, but we have a long way to go before we'll catch UM football fans

I thought the Lions did go after Julius Jones and he turned them down. Not that I blame him. I understand why the Lions cut KJ. The stupid part is cutting him and not seeming to have a backup plan.

I have a NASCAR question. Why is it that, at least to this non-nascar fan, the same handful of guys win every race? Is it that they're that much better drivers, or they have a better car?
-
JayUp, do you get offended when ESPN (allegedly) only talks about hockey when a Bertuzzi like incident happens? Same sort of thing. I don't care of soccer myself, but there's plenty of NFL fans that enjoy hurting each other too. The media just doesn't cover it.

An O6 matchup would be good for the game just because each of those teams have an established fanbase. I don't know how much it would do to attract new fans though. Bettman's wildest dreams would be a Detroit/New York finals, ratings galore in the US.

I think its only a matter of time before the Wings get a new arena. As far as the lease being up next year, I thought it was decided this fall that the lease actually runs though 2011 or 12. I tried checking the Detroit News, but you have to pay to see articles that far back. Anyway, the Joe is a dump and its in a bad location. If Tiger Stadium can get torn down (eventually) than there's no way The Joe is going to stand forever. Cobo needs the room anyway. And it will have a corporate name.

MSU has natural grass now. I believe one of the reasons the Cold War was done at Spartan Stadium and not Michigan Stadium the first time around was that MSU had a turf field while UM had natural grass. In that time, the two stadiums have switched their fields. But yeah, every 2-3 years would be a good way to do it.
-
I'd see two problems with having the game at Wrigley. 1: Baseball stadiums wouldn't have the best angles for viewing. Too much open space and funky angles. 2: Wrigley has natural grass, which probably doesn't handle the ice surface that well. A double header at the Big Pit in Ann Arbor would probably be the best idea, since they have turf now. MSU/UM and then Red Wings/Leafs (or any other O6 team).

Brand spankin' new Drive-By Truckers album.

They're being quiet and being thankful Holland didn't take the deal.

According to the Detroit Tiger Weblog (which is reliable), there will be no single game, opening day tickets on sale. http://www.detroittigersweblog.com/2008/02...ng-day-tickets/

Hell, I'd draft Manningham over Thomas as well.
-
Ha! Thomas' draft stock has been going up. The same cannot be said for Mr. Manningham and Mr. Hart. Although, its too bad there isn't a combine event for peddling a bike on the sideline, Hart would be a first round pick Sadly, the Lions drafting Devin Thomas in the second round wouldn't surprise me. Hell, I'll be surprised if they don't do it. Stupid Lions
