That's enough there, ladies.

The NBA and NHL have roughly the same sized arenas. The smallest baseball field still holds about 15,000 more than the largest hockey arena. Part of hockey's problem is they rely on ticket revenue much more than any of the other leagues that have a good TV deal. The Lions could probably give away tickets for every game at Ford Field and still make money thanks to the NFL's TV contract.

Hopefully that's sarcasm. If not, that's a horrible way for a front office to think and thankfully the Wings don't think like that. Refusing to trade prospects (and in this case not even a high prospect) for proven talent can crippling to a team. Look at the Tigers. Seemed like for the last almost 20 years, whenever there was a trade, it was always compared to the Smoltz for Alexander trade. There's a lot of people who will tell you the Tigers got so scared of doing that again, they wouldn't make the trades they needed to.

Nice

That is regoddamndiculous!

Considering that Gil Meche got 5 years 55 million and Carlos Silva got 4 years 48 million, I think Nate's contract is reasonable for a guy who will get between 12-15 wins (maybe more with good run support) is a lefty, and can eat up a lot of innings. It is a lot of money to pay a 5th starter, but that's just the reality of baseball today. I don't think the Tigers could have gotten anyone better for the money they gave Nate.

Tigs extend Nate's contract. 3 years, 21.75 million.

I can understand reservations about not wanting Hossa because of cap concerns. But not wanting Hossa if it meant dealing Hulder or Flip or even Kronwall? To me, that makes no sense.
-
Dear Jebus I would love to have Hossa as a Wing. I'd trade just about anyone other than Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Homer. Hell, if Hossa could be locked up long term I'd even consider the last two on my list. Not that I ever think it would happen.

^^^ He said "BEFORE he is no longer a Tiger."
-
I think he's got the stats, or will have the stats when he retires, but he won't get in because, like Toby said, people don't think of Ozzie as a HOF'er.
-
Its too bad that Tram, Morris, and even Sweet Lou weren't Yankees, they'd probably be in. I have a tough time taking the Baseball HOF seriously. Any organization that allows Rob Parker and Woody Paige to decide who's in the HOF has some problems.

Yeah, I was hoping Devin Thomas would stay. He's only had one good season. But, if he can have a good showing at the combine and get picked on the first day, that makes MSU as a whole look good. I've heard that Pryor wants to play basketball as well. If that's true, wouldn't make much sense for him to go to UM
-
Once again, Trammell and Morris aren't elected to the Hall of Fame. What a joke.

That's gold!

What professional non NHLer would you like to sign?
BlakChamber replied to BeeRYCE's topic in General
I'd like it if the Wings would sign me. I had a really good game of drop-in hockey on Friday. I'm ready to go! -
Exactly. If you wear the visiting team's jersey and you're not a jackass, people will generally be cool with you. Hell, I've worn MSU stuff to Michigan games and never had a problem, since I didn't act like a jerk.
-
Yup.
-
What player on the Wings deserves a D then?
-
I don't think Peterson would have been that great on the Lions. Now Joe Thomas on the other hand, that was a player the Lions could have used.
-
According to the ESPN box scores, the last two games were sellouts.
-
No. The junior leagues and NCAA hockey are different.

I would think that the only real place to do an outdoor game would be Michigan Stadium. Spartan Stadium has gone from astroturf (which they had at the time of the Cold War) to natural grass.
