Much like the misplaced blame that Datsyuk's agent got a few years back, this isn't the case here. The agent has a fiduciary responsibility to the athlete. This is a legal arrangement in which the agent essentially places the interest of the principal (the athlete) ahead of his own. And there are repercussions if they don't do this. They can range from getting fired by the player, to being decertified by the NHLPA, to losing their license if that agent happens to be a lawyer. If they're doing something like embezzling money, they can be prosecuted. So like what happened with Datsyuk a few years ago, it's really easy to turn the agent into the bad guy. But Winter works for Hossa, not the other way around. If Winter is asking for 6 million and won't go below, he's doing it under Hossa's direction or he probably won't remain Hossa's agent much longer. And I'd have to imagine that if a team tried to negotiate directly with the player when they know the player has an agent, the NHLPA would be filing a grievance very quickly.

I know people have raised this before, but I think it's an overblown concern. The Joe is a dump, its in a bad location and Cobo needs to expand. Bring on the new arena.

Oh, but there's a huge difference. When the Pens fans and/or Crosby whine about something, they're doing it because they're a bunch of whiners and that's what they do. Babies. When Wings fans do it, it's because we're pointing out the obvious that the Wings are clearly getting screwed. I hope this clears everything up.

I know a guy down here who played for MSU a while ago and he knows some of the coaches. Chatting with him today he said both Nichol and Cousins are looking really good, and the defense should be awesome. There probably will be slight step back since you're getting new QBs and RBs, but I really think anything else than 8-4 will be a disappointment.

I'll have a beer or two and go on with my life.

^^^ Yeah, it's a fairly weak schedule this year. I hate the opening game against Montana State. Nothing good comes from playing 1-AA teams. If you win, BFD. You were supposed to win. If you lose, well, just ask Michigan about that. I do love that we're avoiding OSU and Pryor for the next two years.
