Anyone else think Gordie Howe is a little money hungry?
BlakChamber replied to WingNutt's topic in General
I thought I remember hearing somewhere that Howe got burned on some bad business deals a number of years ago or something to that effect and he ended up losing a ton of money. Plus, like other's have said, Howe just didn't earn as much money as modern players. For most of when he played, there wasn't any players union. In 1967, Howe earned $40,000. In 2006 dollars, that would be only $240,000, half of what the current minimum salary in the NHL is. I don't think you can really compare what Yzerman does to what Howe does. Since 1989, Yzerman earned about 65 million dollars in salary money. Even once you take out agent fees, taxes, and the regular cost of living a nice life, he's still probably got a lot of money in the bank. Even after adjusting for inflation, I'd be willing to bet that Yzerman earned more in two or three seasons in salary money than Howe did over his entire career. Besides, the guy's got to earn a living. What else is he qualified to do? -
I think Henne will have a decent career, but nothing special. However, I really like Long. He could be an absolute stud in the NFL.
-
Same old Lions.
-
No, he's saying that one bad season isn't always indicative of how a person's career will turn out.
-
I don't think it's necessarily time to give up on Howard yet. The season is still young and goalies do take longer to develop.

Neitzel was really sick last night though. I only got to see the first half, and the Spartans didn't look good. If they had capitalized on all their chances, they could probably have been up 20 after the half. And once again, I really hate Dickie V.
-
I'd feel bad for them. Even if they're Wolverines, they deserve better than playing for the Lions.

I think some of you need to check the batteries in your sarcasm detectors. Of course, this could be completely serious. That wouldn't surprise me either.

Hell of a game by MSU, from what I've heard. I was in Austin all day yesterday and I'm trying to find either a torrent or a copy of the game. Tough break for Michigan. Poor Hart, no national championship, no wins against Ohio State, better hope he gets a bowl win. Otherwhise his resume won't be that much better than a MSU senior.

Offical Lloyd Carr retirement thread
BlakChamber replied to RockyMountainWingGal's topic in Other Sports
Carr seems to be a good guy who runs a clean program and really cares about his players. There need to be more coaches like that. -
I prefer MLL or NCAA lax over NLL. I've never been much of a fan of playing or watching indoor, outdoor is more fun.

Is Michigan really still an elite program? Half a national championship in the last 50 years, 1 1/2 in the last 60. Does that really make an elite program? Hell, in that time period Michigan State has claimed more national championships than Michigan has. Overall the school has a losing record in bowl games, unlike Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, and LSU to name a few. Now, Michigan is still an extremely good program, don't get me wrong. I'd never say that the Wolverines have a bad program, hell, they haven't had a losing season since the 60's. But when most of your national championships are from before World War 2, and two out of the three post WW2 championships were in the 1940's, and the last national championship is a co-championship...that doesn't scream elite program to me. It says good program, even very good, but not the leaders and the best I don't ask this to be an ******* Spartan fan, I'd certainly love to have Michigan's record. But I'm curious what the UM fans think.

Abdelkader is off to a good start with 9 points in 9 games. From what I've read, he's been the best faceoff man as well.
-
I like the trade as well. It was pretty clear Infante didn't have a future in Detroit, and it adds a left handed bat to the lineup.

MSU probably does have to beat PSU to actually get to a bowl game. Still, like Timothy said, if it came down to MSU or IU for the Motor City Bowl, I have to think they'd take MSU given the school is just over an hour away and has a bigger fanbase in the Detroit area. It's not like Indiana wouldn't show, but it wouldn't be as good as State. Question for Michigan fans. I know the season isn't over yet, but what's the outlook next year? Hart is gone. Henne is gone. Long is gone (and would be welcome in Detroit). Is Manningham going to go pro? I've got to assume he's at least thinking about it.

Michigan State fans know the Miller family. Kip, Kelly, Kevin, Ryan, and Drew are the most recent. Overall, 10 Millers have played for the Spartans. Both Kip and Ryan were Hobey Baker winners.

What year did you graduate from UT? I love Austin, great city. Tons of fun. Good day for me. MSU wins, UM and ND both lose. Granted, ND losing isn't so much fun anymore. It's just sad now. Tough break for the Buckeyes, but I'm sure The Vest will cook something up and take this loss out on UM.

We've got some real Sensitive Sally's here.

Hart's health isn't the reason he won't win. It's App State.

HHOF: No. Bust: No way.

Damn. And Kentucky just paid Billy G big bucks to leave A&M.

Grand Valley State 85, Michigan State 82
BlakChamber replied to betterREDthandead's topic in Other Sports
When I was at GV, 98-02 there was always talk that they'd move up to D1. Like Manny said, I don't think they have any reason to. What's better, winning national championships in D2 or being a whipping boy that everyone schedule's for homecoming in D1. As a GV alum, I'd rather see them keep racking up the championships in D2. -

Apparently the GLIAC owns the Big 10. Ohio State lost to Findlay. http://www.columbusdispatch.com/live/conte...er.html?sid=101 -
Change one word, and I agree with you completely
