I know the difference between the standards of evidence. My comment was more for OsGod and that Bertuzzi needs to prove to him something beyod a reasonable doubt. I do mostly criminal and very little civil work, and what civil I do is mostly family law, it sounds like you probably know more than I do in this sort of case.

As a side note, I watched Dantonio's presser and came away with two things. 1: He really looks like my neighbor from back home. 2: This man is exactly what the Spartan program needs. Not John L. slapping himself on national TV. After watching him, I'm about to see if I can walk on the football team and go kick some ass. Hell, I only played club level lacrosse in college, I still have 4 years of eligibility left

For what its worth, the legal standard in civil cases (what Bertuzzi and Moore are in) is preponderance of the evidence, not reasonable doubt. Look at it this way, lets say I push you, intending just to keep you away from me. Instead, you trip while stumbling backwards, fall, hit your head on a table and break your neck. I don't just get to say "all I did was push him away from me, it's the table's fault." The law doesn't work that way.

All losing to the team that lost to App State means is that Michigan beat a team it was supposed to beat. What would Michigan fans rather do? Be in the record books as the only ranked team to lose to a 1-AA opponent or lose to a team that is supposed to beat them?

No, Carr just let's his players go and run their mouths for him. Does anyone have the exactly "moment of silence" quote? As in a link to it.

I agree with you about the talent gap. That's always going to be a problem for Michigan State as they have to compete in the midwest against Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, just to name the three big schools, then there's Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa, etc. I disagree that you can't simply say that State got outplayed though. Michigan won the first half with basically three pl;ays (although the first half was so ugly neither team did that well) and in the second half, State had Michigan on the ropes, and did what the Spartans have done so many times, they took their foot off the gas. They went from playing to win the game, to playing to not to lose. The only thing the prevent defense does at MSU is prevent the Spartans from winning. Michigan made the plays when it counted and definetely get the credit for stepping up and taking the game when State gave it to them. Michigan State simpling getting outplayed is the 49-3 game from a few years back.

Hart sure didn't look like he was letting brother win when MSU was up by 10. His eyes were about as big as dinner plates on the sideline. But, Hart being a douchebag isn't exactly news.

In last week's SI, in their Start Em/Sit Em fantasy column, they suggested sitting Kitna and starting the Denver defense. Good thing I didn't pick up the Denver defense and started the Lions instead.

Both games were an embarassment to the respective schools, I think you're right. As far as losing to the team that lost to App State, all that means is UM finally started beating the teams they're supposed to beat. -
Sigh, same old Spartans. Well, it's not completely the same old Spartans. John L's team would have just rolled over and died after the first half. But the result is still the same. As soon as UM got the ball back with 7 minutes to go and the MSU defense started giving them 10 yards on every play, I thought to myself, "I've seen this before and I know how this story ends." Sure enough.

Here's why it's not as bad. When Michigan goes to a bowl game this year, what are the announcers going to talk about? App State. What has Pontiac been showing as the game changing performance all year? App State. What's the legacy of Lloyd, Hart, and Henne? App State. Which game is in the record books? App State However, part of the reason I think the App. State was so bad though, is because the next week Michigan got smoked by Oregon before anyone knew that Oregon was that good of a team. When the Spartans make the tournament this year, will the GVSU game get mentioned? Possibly, probably in passing. In terms of the amount of press this will get, I'm guessing overall it will be less than when MSU lost to George Washington a fews years ago. Oh well. s*** happens. I certainly dished it out when UM lost to App State, I can take it when the Spartans lose. And, since I did go to GV, I actually am pretty happy for them. While GV is known for football, their basketball program is pretty good as well. Hopefully this win gets them a little more recognition. -
It's also between the NHL, any team that would sign him, and whoever provides insurance for the league.

As a Spartan and a Laker, I have conflicted feelings about this. It sucks, no doubt. But its not as bad as App. State. It doesn't ruin the season. -
Baring medical science figuring out what exactly is wrong with him and fixing it, I don't see him ever playing again.

If he could be signed to a long term deal, I'd give up quite a bit for Hossa.

You look way too much like one of my college buddies, it's spooky.

Word is he hurt himself moving some personal items because of the California wildfires. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...ORTS02/71101044

I don't see much of a need for Hunter, especially not with his price tag, and the Twins would NEVER trade Santana to the Tigers.

Which active player will have his jersey retired?
BlakChamber replied to timothy1997's topic in General
Because this is Detroit and not Colorado. Only the best of the best get their number retired. You don't just get your number retired in Detroit for showing up to play and helping out. It's tougher to get your number retired in Detroit than it is to get into the Hockey Hall of Fame, which Draper isn't going to either. There are 33 players in the Hall of Fame that have been Red Wings. There are 6 retired numbers. Look, I like Draper and think he's a good player and does his job, but it wasn't like he was the missing piece for a Cup team. Shanny and Fedorov (presumably) aren't going to get their numbers retired in Detroit and each of those guys was way more important to the Cup teams than Draper was. -

By who? His junior team? -
As far as having the Gambler and Schilling, I'd be alright with two greybeards if they each have a one year deal. A rotation of Bondo, Nate, JV, Kenny, and Schilling would be have to be in the top 3 in the league. I think it's pretty clear that Ilitch and Dombrowski are building this team to win right now, rather than in a few years. Edit to add: I'm listening to The Sports Inferno right now, they'll saying that one of the cities Schilling wants to go to is Detroit. He's wanting 1 year, 13 million. Given that we paid Kenny 8 million last time around, it probably means one or the other.

Showing up to the game to chant "fire bettman" doesn't work. If you're in the seats, the team gets their money and they've already won, so to speak. Same reason the Lions have no real incentive to win. They still make tons of money. If you really want some change, stop spending money on the NHL and convince everyone you know to do the same. If people ***** and ***** about what's happening in hockey, but still go to the games and buy merchandise, the NHL has no reason to change.
-
What would y'all think of Schilling in the D? Maybe a 1 year deal.

How exactly is it Hockeytown Authentic's fault? They didn't make the hat, they're not the ones who screwed it up. All the NHL hologram means is that it's licensed by the NHL, meaning that whoever made it has the rights to use NHL logos. It's not some kind of seal of approval. I'd just take it back and demand your money back. Your real beef should be with the sweatshop worker in whatever country who can't sew a hat right.

^^^ Manny's right, with Michigan (the state) going through such tough times, we Michigan State fans and Michigan fans need to put aside our differences and work together on what really matters. Making fun of Notre Dame and Ohio State fans
