University of Michigan - The upset - The future
BlakChamber replied to RedWingedKitten's topic in Other Sports
I know the ND fans have to convince themselves that Jabba the Weis is better than Ty because they're stuck with him for so long, but now that Weis is in his third year, so shouldn't kids out there be Weis'? Here's the Scout recruiting rankings for ND. 2002 - 13th in the nation 2003 - 5th in the nation 2004 - 30th in the nation 2005 - 27th in the nation 2006 - 5th in the nation 2007 - 11th in the nation Ty didn't do so hot in 04, and 05 was going to be lower because of the coaching change, but there's nothing to suggest that Ty was a horrible recruiter. And, according to Pat Forde on ESPN, in 28 games, there has been one offensive touchdown scored by a Weis recruit. -
I don't know about that. Navy hung in there for most of the game against Rutgers.

I don't think that win will be enough to get MSU in the top 25. Maybe if it had been a complete, UAB like domination it would have been enough. But, I think it will put the Spartans around 30-40. A good win over ND could move MSU into the top 25 though. Not that ND is good, but if they can put a whoopin' on the Irish like UM did, people should take notice. The defense was very impressive yesterday. They made some huge plays when it counted. That's the type of game that under JLS, the team would have just rolled over and died. Nice to see they can handle some adversity.

Grew up in Lansing, been a Spartan my whole life. I almost went there for undergrad, but I decided I needed to get farther away from home.
-
That was an ugly, ugly game by MSU, but I'll take the win.

It's going to be ugly period. Ultimately, I think UM is going to win based on they still have a pretty good offense. ND doesn't have a good offense or defense. -
I picked up Irvine Welsh's new book, If You Liked School, You'll Love Work. It's a collection of four stories and novella. The first two stories were ok. Entertaining, but nothing special.

I don't see Stefan Liv's name on there, what's the story on him?

Neither one are ranked in the top 25. -
I'm pretty sure that college hockey will be on BTN. Not 100% positive though.

After the game on Saturday, potential recruits that Michigan brought in to watch the game were saying they wanted to go to Oregon. Ouch! http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian...&thispage=2 -
Do you have any pictures that aren't tailgating or bdubs? Not that there's anything wrong with that. I miss tailgating and the EL bdubs.

Doesn't he have to pay LSU some ridiculous amount of he leaves for UM though? -

Greg Schiano is a jersey boy. You can never say 100% that someone will or won't change schools, but I don't see him leaving. Anyway...what's up with Greg Matthews kicking a Oregon player in the balls? I honestly thought this game would be a blow out, I just didn't expect Michigan to be on the receiving end of it. -

But yet they're still co-national champions. It's like how the USC fans seem to forget that LSU won the BCS national championship in 2003-04. More proof that D1 needs a playoff. I think the 97 UM team would have beat the 97 Nebraska team, but we'll never know. -
Yes, that's exactly it. Everyone is cowering before your superior intellect.

Right now I'm reading Dirty Sally, by Michael Simon and The Dangerous Book For Boys by Conn and Hal Iggulden. Dirty Sally is a detective story much like something James Ellroy would write. Grisly murders, corrupt cops, power brokers, hookers, drugs, etc. I'm a big fan of Ellroy and so far, Dirty Sally is a good read. Plus, it takes place in Austin so there's plenty of references to places I know. The Dangerous Book For Boys is basically a cross between a boy scout manual and a history book. There's chapters on how to build a tree house, make a battery, famous battles in history, the Navajo alphabet and all sorts of random stuff. I was hoping it would be a little more "dangerous," maybe how to build a potato gun and things of that variety, but it's an entertaining book.

Interesting, you're disproving my theory. A Spartan's usual rule of thumb is, the more obnoxious the Wolverine fan, the less likely it is they went there. The whole debate was started by a wolverine fan. And even if UM beats MSU this year, meh. I'll be disappointed to be sure, but my team still won't be in the record books as the first ranked D1 team to lose to a 1-AA team. And, I may have a lowly Spartan education, but even I know it's Maize and Blue. I guess a UM education isn't all it's cracked up to be. Jim Harbaugh was right Its too early to tell what's going to happen. Michigan lost a game they should have won and from what I read, showed some good plays. MSU smoked a team they should have smoked. It could be a good game. The Spartans came close to beating UM in 04 and 05. It took Stanton going down in 04 and MSU's horrible kicking game in 05 for UM to win. If I were a betting man, I'd say UM wins in a close one. -

It's a typical UM answer. How is it possible to fill a stadium with 111,000 people, yet they can't sell out 13,000 in Crisler? Do that many Michigan fans just not care about basketball? Or is it more likely that all the diehard Wolverines won't come near the basketball arena because UM hasn't made the NCAA tournament since Ed Martin was paying the Fab 5? If UM had MSU's record and reputation in basketball, Crisler would be packed every night. As much success as MSU has had in hoops, it's still a football school. Go to East Lansing on gameday, the place is almost always sold out and there's even more people out there. The fans are just waiting for the team to get good again. Very clever move by the UM fans in the thread, avoid the discussion about the fact that your upset is going to be mentioned on TV for years by turning it into a UM/MSU debate. Oh yeah, and the idea that App. State is so good and would walk all over a bunch of D1 teams, maybe they would, maybe they wouldn't. Last year they played one D1 team, NC State and lost 23-10. The year before that, they played Kansas and LSU, and got smoked by both teams. Most guys on App State wouldn't sniff Michigan's third string. Suck it up, stop trying to deflect this into what's happening with MSU, and accept that U of M, the winningest program in college football history just paid App State $400,000 to get mentioned on TV every time there's a big upset. -

Typical Wolverine answer. I just don't care about college hoops. You know that if UM had success like MSU and the Spartans were still recovering from being one of the most corrupt programs in the country, you and every other UM fan like you would be just waiting for hoops season. As far as what MSU has done, they were a final four team 2 years ago. And Ian, help me out with a theory of mine. What year did you graduate from UM? To the best of my knowledge, MSU has never played a 1-AA team. -

See, stuff like this is why State fans hate Michigan fans. This topic has absolutely nothing to do with MSU, but guess who brought up MSU. Here's a hint, it wasn't a State fan. I love when UM fans go on rants like this. You're acting like you're telling me something I don't know. I'm well aware of the problems my school has and that in all likely hood, UM will have the better season since they A) have more talent and are a better team, B) have a more favorite schedule than MSU, and C) aren't recovering from having Bobby Williams and Slappy as their coach. The only good thing about Michigan fans like you guys is that come basketball season, you're no where to be found. -

Laugh it up. Michigan State has never lost to a 1-AA team. -

If Michigan wins out the rest of the season they'll be in a BCS bowl. But they've got a tough schedule. Oregon, and Penn State are tough early season games. Especially since Oregon has a mobile QB and UM still hasn't figured out what to do about them. Hell, even ND could be tough if they get their s*** together. Then they end the season at MSU, at Wisconsin, and against the Buckeyes and Jim Tressel, who has turned Lloyd into his *****. -
I just discovered these guys, they're pretty sweet.
