I hate lawsuits, and stories like this because they paint a poor picture of the American legal system, which is already suffering from a poor image. Plenty of times, when you hear about some frivolous lawsuit that gets filed, it will end up getting tossed out by the judge. That part isn't what makes the news though. Or, when a jury gives someone a 12 trillion dollar settlement, either the judge or the appeals court reduces the dollar amount. Again, that never makes the news either. Based on what's in the article, it doesn't sound like the lawyers have much of a case.

Don't Forget: FRI 6PM: How To Look Fabulous, with Jimmy Clausen. Special guest, Chad Henne and his Louis Vuitton "bag."

Agreed. If you wanted to compare The Joe to baseball fields, its not like Tiger Stadium, Fenway, or Wrigley. It's more like Verterns Stadium, Three Rivers, or the Metrodome. A new The Joe is good for everyone. The Wings get a modern arena. The fans get an arena with bathrooms and cupholders. The city gets a new arena to show off, which probably means an all star game. Plus, Cobo can expand to make sure they keep the auto show as the big one. Edit to add something

Of course soccer is going to draw more attention world wide than hockey. That's not exactly a bold statement. As far as passing hockey in the US, maybe, but its going to take more than Beckham to do it. Hockey may be far from, say football and baseball for popularity in the US, but its still a ways a head of soccer.
-
They've been saying soccer is the next big thing in America since I was 5 years old (1985) and played youth soccer. Still hasn't happened. Beckham will help, and so will ESPN pimping the product, but soccer will never be more than niche sport in the US.

True. At least they weren't caught trying to pick up a hooker, like that kid from Notre Dame.

Considering that Ilitch was #242 on the Forbes 400 Richest Americans list last year, and worth 1.5 billion dollars, I don't think he needs to take business advice from a message board

Sorry. It's either all or nothing. I'm not about to buy season tickets, sell you 5 games, then figure out what to do with the other 41 games. Especially since I wouldn't be going to any of them.

Yeah, Parker is just horrible. How he manages to keep a job, I have no idea. And, here's another fine example of some "Michigan Men." http://blog.mlive.com/wolverines/2007/08/t...ll_players.html

As bad as Drew Sharp is, he's still better than Rob Parker. Of course, that's not saying much. And even the Ann Arbor News is saying that maybe Michigan ought to address the issues Harbaugh is raising. Pretty bad that even old Ed Martin gets a mention in the story http://www.mlive.com/sports/annarbornews/i....xml&coll=2

Drew Sharp had a good column about the whole matter today. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...COL08/708110315 Complimenting Drew Sharp. I feel dirty, excuse me while I go scrub myself with bleach.

It's the preseason...I'm not drinking the Lions kool-aide.

I just got the same email as well. Obviously, I have no use for the tickets living in Texas. Anyone want 'em? For all you people who complain you can't go to a game because the suits buy all the tickets, here's your chance to put up or shut up

You seem to be completely missing the point. It isn't about dumb players at MSU, the graduation rate of players at OSU, or any of the other arguments UM fans have raised to try to deflect attention away from what Harbaugh said. It's the fact that UM likes to hold itself out as the Harvard of the midwest. That their academics are so much better than the rest of the Big 10, and that they're a state school on top of that. And while UM is a very good university, one of the best public university's in the country, they're also admitting dumb to average students, who wouldn't otherwise be able to get into UM (much like the UM fanbase), and then pushing them off into bulls*** majors. Harbaugh himself said in the article he was steered to communications, a typical major that athletes take. It's basically UM trying to have it both ways. Being a highly regarded university, which they are; and having their "dirty little secret" that there's a bunch of morons playing sports. The difference between MSU, OSU, and UM is that MSU and OSU don't have a Harvard of the midwest attitude. If a former player said that MSU and OSU have dumb players on their sports teams and they're encouraged to take easy majors, it wouldn't be much of a story. The administrations of the schools would try to spin it, but everyone knows what's going on. But since Harbaugh dares to say this against the Harvard of the midwest, all of a sudden he's a traitor and no longer a Michigan Man? Here's another quote from a "Michigan Man," and the current President of the University of Florida. Maybe UM should just admit they admit dumb kids like every other major athletic program in the country.

Ditto. There really doesn't seem to be anything here to get bent out of shape about. Considering what other teams have done to their jerseys this off season, everyone should be thankful there's no piping on the jerseys or some other awful thing.

Moving a team from Minnesota would be like moving a team from Toronto.

I play drop in every Friday and once the league starts back up in the fall, I'll be getting back into league games. Growing up, I always played street hockey with my friends, and some ice hockey if my neighbor behind me made a backyard rink or we went to a pond, but I never played anything organized. In college I did intramural floor hockey and roller hockey. Then in law school I decided to start playing ice hockey in a league. I'm not very good, but I do love to get out and play.

The Izzo comparison doesn't work. Harbaugh isn't saying that Lloyd is the one who pushes kids of medicore intelligence into easy majors, he's saying it's the school who does it. And the other difference between if someone said it about MSU, is that MSU doesn't try to hold itself out as the Harvard of the midwest. If someone came out and said MSU (or any other Big 10 school besides Northwestern) was taking dumb athletes and putting them in easy majors, the general reponse would be "duh." The statement would have probably been more effective he if said he was talking about college athletics in general. Plus, his status as a "Michigan Man" wouldn't get called into question.
-
I can see it now...when Lidstrom doesn't sign for 1 million a season, this thread will get dragged up and he'll get called greedy.
-
First off, this isn't about MSU. I never claimed MSU doesn't have dumb kids on their team or that they don't make sure those take easy classes, nor would I ever claim that. Pretty much every school with a big athletics program does. Would this be any different if Harbaugh came out and said that it's Ohio State that pushes kids with bad grades into easy programs? No. He'd still be telling the truth about college athletics. If anything, all the weasel fans would love it. A Michigan Man bashing the Buckeyes for having a bunch of morons on their team? There'd be one hell of a circle jerk about that in Ann Arbor. But the minute Harbaugh dares to speak out against UM, and tell the truth about it, he gets his Michigan Man card revoked. What a crock.
-
I think its funny that so many of the Weasel fans are getting upset when what Harbaugh is absolutely true. And while its true that almost every school does it, the difference between say, Texas Tech admitting dumb athletes and UM is that Texas Tech doesn't try to hold themselves as one of the best academic schools as well. I'd imagine that plenty of Weasel athletes are a lot like the UM fan base. They couldn't get into the school unless they were pushing a broom. But, if you can't disprove something bad that's being said about you, the next best thing to do is attack whoever says it. My favorite line was Hart saying Harbaugh wasn't a "Michigan Man." I love the whole Michigan Man thing, it epitomizes the arrogance and elitist attitude of the whole school. As if being a Michigan Man was the highest honor one can achieve in life. Please. Of course, Lloyd calling someone else arrogant and elitist is pretty funny. Pot. Meet kettle. And Mike, keep your trap shut until you can do what Harbaugh did. Win a bowl game and beat the Buckeyes.

Libraries are way too liberal for me. They're all like, "hey man, just borrow some books of you want. They're free. You just have to bring them back later." Please, I don't fall for that s***. Libraries are the first step toward all of us living in a commune... We have a pretty decent used bookstore, I go there every so often. On the one hand, its recycling so I'm against it. But on the other hand, I'm a cheap bastard so any type of money-saving is good with me. I'm so confused.
