    Who's played drop in hockey?

I go play drop in every Friday for something to do. I took about 9 months off from playing, so I figure drop in is a good way to get my minimal skills back before joining the league in the fall. And its a good way to get some exercise and not go to the gym. The main problems have already been hit on. People being puckhogs is my pet peeve.

Reports: 2nd outdoor game in the works

^^^ Comerica is natural grass, and I don't think baseball parks really have the shape for a hockey game. Ford Field is inside. Although it would be cool to do a game there, like you said, see how it will go for the Frozen Four.

They did an outdoor game in East Lansing. Detroit isn't any different.

No, MSU and I are not getting married. Although we did once sit near each other at a MSU game.

Reports: 2nd outdoor game in the works

Wings/Leafs at the Big Pit. 100,000 people with 4 inches of room for a "seat." At least everyone will stay warmed huddled together.

Wings sign Drake for 1-year, $550K

He's cheap and tough. The Wings could have done a lot worse.

    NHL Attendance 2006-2007

^^^ Every sport reports ticket sales instead of actual attendance. Just wondering, what exactly is the point of this thread?

    Islanders sign Bootland

They know minor league hockey fans expect a fight. Hell, if I go to an AHL game and don't see a fight, I don't feel like I've gotten my money's worth

    Why the Lack of Buzz?

Well, he's obviously to get it done. I don't remember any year, at least since I've been a big boardmember that the Wings have gone out and signed a huge name as soon as the FA period started. Why should this year be any different? But, it's free agent season around here. I shouldn't expect anything different.

    2007 Baseball Season

Hell of a game last night. I love the Tigers on ESPN, even if that means having to listen to ESPN "personalities."

    Why the Lack of Buzz?

So basically, Kenny should just throw money around to shut the impatient fans up? Hell of a way to run a team.

Wings re-sign Hudler to 2-year deal

You don't seriously think Hudler was the difference between the Wings beating the Ducks and the Wings losing the Ducks, do you?

Wings re-sign Hudler to 2-year deal

I'm kinda meh on this. I don't think Hudler is all that some people make him out to be. But, the price was right and he knows the Red Wings system. Could have been worse.

    Where is the Loyalty?

I love how you know what's best for a person's family. Just because someone signs a contract for 2.5 million, doesn't mean they're getting all of it. First off, an agent takes 10-12%. No doubt you've got lawyers, accountants, etc Then you've got taxes. If you're a Canadian citizen, you're looking at giving a good chunk of change to the government. Plus, each state you work in taxes you. Say you play 4 games against the Bruins, you owe the state of Massachusetts. Now, 4 days of taxes to Mass. aren't going to break the bank, but the only states that have a NHL team and don't have an income tax are Texas and Florida. So that's all going to add up. Now, I have no doubt someone will miss that point of what I'm saying. I AM NOT SAYING THE PLAYERS ARE HURTING FOR MONEY. I'm just saying when you sign a contract for 2.5 million, you don't end up with 2.5 million Since Markov was the example with everything that's wrong in sports today, why does he owe the Red Wings any loyalty? He's been a Red Wing for one year. It's not like he's a Stevie Y or a Lidstrom type of guy, who's played his whole career here. He had one season. And I've seen plenty of people say this, but yet to see a good answer. Aussie, why should the players show loyalty to an organization, when the oganization knows the players are disposible and interchangable. Should the Red Wings have kept Darren McCarty out of loyalty? Ask Chris Osgood how loyal the Red Wings were when they brought Hasek in to replace him.

    Where is the Loyalty?

Nowadays 10 years is considered a very long time to stay at your job. Most people, at least in my generation (late 20's) change 3-4-5 years on average. I really don't understand what your big hangup is. It's pro sports. It's a business. If Markov had a bad season, should Ilitch be expected to offer him a contract out of loyalty? Should the Red Wings have kept McCarty on the payroll after the lockout, out of loyalty? The answer to both those questions is no. The owners show no loyalty to the players. They have to run their organization in a way that's the best for the team, and the bottom line. Likewise, the players are going to what's best for them. They know that they can be cut, or not offered a contract, or be an injury any from reitirement, and that there's always someone younger, faster, and hungier trying to take their spot on a team. Why should they show any loyalty to an organization? I can understand older guys taking a paycut to go to a Cup contending team if they've never won the Cup, or old guys sticking around if they're close to retirement have kids in school or something like that. As Red Wings fans, we've been lucky to have so many guys stick around with the Wings for lunch a long period of time. But that's the exception in the league, not the rule.

    Where is the Loyalty?

That's exactly right. There's no loyalty on either side anymore. Professional sports is ultimately a business and for the most part, players are going to follow the money. It sure is easy to sit and think that someone should take a hometown discount when it's not your money.
