I would have thought a big off season move for the Leafs would be switching from Titleist to Ping.

Man, Tigers are really on a roll. Come on guys, let's pick up the Tiggies chatter. The soccer thread almost has as many posts as this one Since I'm going to be in the D for a wedding in a few weeks, I picked up some tickets to the Tigers/Cards game on Sunday. I can't wait!

This is going to be one hell of a series. I'm really pulling for Buffalo since Miller and Drury are probably my favorite non-Red Wings players. Sabres in 6.

There's a difference between not liking a player and being completely ignorant of his accomplishments and where he stands among NHL greats. Not that I've come to expect any sort of logical discussion from you, or tunbo for that matter.

All game 5 discussion goes here.

Bertuzzi has been looking pretty good so far tonight. Alright, game's back on. I'll head back to the TV and let the sky continue to fall...

All game talk can now go in the GDT http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42827

Yeah, I'd say it's a good possibility he chose 19 because of Stevie...

He's one of my favorite non-Red Wings players. I love how he plays. He just does his job, works hard, and doesn't make a big deal out of it.

One mental breakdown does not mean a team is falling apart. If the Sharks come out with piss poor hockey in game 5, then yes, then I'd say they are. But until then, treating the Sharks like we have them on the ropes isn't too bright.

^^^ Typical Weasel fan...never went to the school And that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out.

I'm not judging him at all. I never said he was less of an Wings fan because he's across the pond or anything like that. I was just making an observation that I find it hard to believe you can really hate the rival of a team you have no connection with besides liking them after playing a video game, compared to the rival of a team you've grow up with and share a city with. If Glasgow feels like I'm trying to say I'm a better Wings fan then him, or questioning his Red Wings fan-ship, I'm not trying to do that and I apologize if he felt like I was. Let me put it this way. If were to become a Celtic fan (not a bad idea, I'm Catholic albeit a lapsed one and I love the colors green and white) could I hate the Rangers like I hate U of M? Even if I watched all the big Celtic/Rangers games and learned the history of the teams? Not even close. There's not the personal connection I have with MSU and by extension, U of M. Which leads be back to my original question. How do American soccer fans, especially the ones that claim to be diehards form these connections to a team they most likely didn't grow up with haven't seen in person, and probably never will. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

^^^ How does your hatred for the Avs compare to your hatred for the Rangers F.C.? I'd find it difficult to believe that the rival a team in America that you have no real connection but decided you liked and started following, would inspire more hatred than a home grown rival of a team you've (I'm assuming here) followed all your life. I now live where Texas A&M University if located, so I cheer for them. And I cheer against University of Texas. But I don't hate Texas, just like I'm not an A&M diehard. And even if I live here the rest of my life, I'd never be able to hate Texas as much as I hate...loathe the university of Michigan.

I have a question for American (and I guess Canadian) soccer fans that I've always wondered about. When I see American fans saying they're diehards of Team X, and hate Team Y with a passion, or Team Z 'til they die, I've always wondered A) how they pick their teams and B) how they can become so passionate about it, living across the pond. There's really only two teams that I'm truely passionate about. Michigan State, because I grew up cheering for them and I went there; and the Tigers, because I've been a fan of them my whole life. Everyone else, if they win, great, if they lose, it sucks, but it doesn't affect me like the Spartans and Tigers. I guess if you're a first generation American and your family cheered for the team, or something like that, I'd get it. Canadians I might understand since Canada remains closer to England than the US does. Help me understand.

Is Kopecky even healthy? I know on TV last night he was listed as injured, instead of a healthy scratch.
-
I can live with it...but I'm not that happy about it. Oh well, we could do worse.
-
You beat me to it. That happens enough here, and with any fan base. Its easier to rationalize that your team didn't show up, rather than that the other team was just better.
-
I agree. And for whoever said Babcock wouldn't take it that far, didn't Babs call out Hasek by name a month or so ago?
-
First sweep of the season, not too bad.

Last I had checked, which was a few weeks ago, Smoker was really tearing it up in the Arena League. Hopefully he gets another shot at the NFL.

Now that is just brilliant.

I'd say stats be damned, you just need to win 16 games any way you can.

Joe sure would look good wearing the Winged Wheel. Oh well.

Its certainly tough to repeat a world series, unless you're the late 90's Yankees. I think its enough tougher for the Tigers since A) there were a lot of young kids with breakout seasons last year, you never know who is going to fall back to earth this year; and B) there's no advantage of surprise anymore. Plus, playing in the AL Central doesn't help. Every team except the Royals is a legitimate playoff team. I trust Leyland completely to guide this team. It's only April, we've still got a winning record and only 1.5 back from the Tribe.

If the biggest complaint that can be leveled against a goalie is that he stops pucks, but looks ridiculous while doing it, that's probably a good thing.
