That may be true, but the focus of the article isn't that the Tigers have topped the Wings in terms of on field performance.

Sorry, but I can't agree that hockey is superior to baseball. Better fights maybe. There are a lot of bandwagon Tigers fans out there, but there's also a lot of people who were Tigers fans, but they just hadn't had anything to cheer about in 13 years and came back to the team.

You've been a member of this board for how long, and you think people are satisfied with the Wings?
-
It was a brilliant trade even before this. I guess Urbina just wasn't a good locker room guy.
-
I've got a white Osgood one from his first time around with the Wings, and a white Ak-Bars Kazan Datsyuk one.

Sadly, because of my job and the fact I have to look professional, the playoff beard is a no go My only tradtion is I go to the bar to watch the games instead of watching them at home. I watched every game of the 2002 Cup run at a local drinking establishment, and look what happened. The next few years, I wasn't able to watch every game at a bar. My bad. Last year I sat in a hotel bar at noon in San Antonio to watch the game. There only people there were me, and the bartender who didn't have the first clue about hockey.

Yes, but that was before UM was placed on probation. It's a lot easier to attract high level coaches to a program that just had a good run and a lot of talented players for a number of years, than a program that has extremely outdated facilities, no fanbase, no morale, little university support, and is recovering from being on NCAA probation. Plus, Michigan is dumping a ton of money in the big house, even with their 8 game home schedule (which is a crock of s***) and some alumni donations, that still isn't cheap. And UM is always going to spend money on football instead of basketball. How sad is the state of the UM basketball program when A) a top coach like Tubby goes to Minnesota and B) the pro-UM media has resorted to begging alumni for money?

Terry Foster discussing how UM needs to get outside help in spending the money to hire a coach. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...0326/1127/rss13 Like I've said, UM could be a good job. But until the admin stops treating hoops like a redheaded stepchild, it won't be.

I moved into first place in my pool. I picked 3 of the 4 final four teams, the only one I got wrong was OSU. I picked A&M to come out of that region.
-
I'm just busting your balls. I actually have a lot of respect for Carr and the way he runs a clean program.
-
Frozen Four baby!!! Bring on those Blackbears, we owe them from last year!
-
I'm surprised they're not getting the usual Lloyd Carr punishment, having to miss the first snap of the Appalachia State game

OK, here's what I have 8x10's of Wings and former Wings Yzerman Williams x2 Hasek Lang Zetterberg x2 Draper Maltby Holmstrom Lidstrom Scheider Datsyuk Fischer Kronwall Howard McCarty Fedorov Shanny x2 Legace Pucks Bowman Larionov 8x10 of non-Wings Ryan Miller Jim Slater Both those photos are from when they played for MSU.
-
Buffalo is my backup team. I started cheering for them in the 90's since I liked Hasek. Now since they've got Miller and Drury, who I love to watch, I keep cheering for them.

The city is still trying to figure out what to do with it, last I read. Typical Detroit. Unless Ilitch buys the land from Detroit, I wouldn't expect a new Wings arena there. Not when he already owns a bunch of land in the Fox Town area.
-
There's going to be a new arena soon. The lease on The Joe is up in a few years, and Ilitch knows The Joe doesn't comapre in terms of modern amenities to the new stadiums. I'd bank it on it being in the Foxtown area. Of course, the way the Detroit area and Michigan economies are in the s***ter, no one would be able to afford tickets to the new place anyway.

Plus, from the few things I've read, Tubby basically gets to build the program his way. I get the impression that A) the UM admin doens't really care about basketball, they think they're a football school first. Schools like Florida and OSU have shown there's no reason you can't be both. Hell, even is a two sport school, once every 6 years when MSU has a good football team. Plus, everyone knows the facilities for UM basketball suck. Despite what they may be saying, I have a tough time believing UM is going to be expanding the big house and bringing Crisler up to the 21st century. Plus, the fanbase is pretty apathetic to basketball. I think a lot of that has to do with the large UM fanbase that never attended the school (I'm being serious here, not taking shots). They don't have the connection, and therefore don't care quite as much. If UM had a program like MSU, Crisler would be filled with mullets and the smell of meth (ok, now I'm taking shots ). Or worse yet, their football fans are the "I cheer for UM in football and MSU in basketball." There aren't many people lower than that. Reading a few comments from Martin makes me think that UM is going to try to get by how they always do. They're going to figure that because they're UM, people are going to be beating down the door to coach there, despite the poor facilities and fanbase. The AD doesn't seem to care as long as the basketball team doesn't get in trouble and doesn't distract from football. UM could be a good job, but as of right now, I don't think it is.
-
There's less pressure in Minnesota. Hell, if they have a practice facility, they're already ahead of UM
-
From what I've read about BU, they're a lot like MSU. You never know which team will show up. I think it's going to come down to simply whichever team wants it more. You going to the game?
-
Why would Tubby want to go to a football school?
-
Yeah, but that's Saban. Everyone already knew he was a *****.

I was reading on another board that Lowery was on Cold Pizza a couple days ago. When the female host, forget her name but I know she went to UM suggested that he take the UM job, he looked at her like she suggested they go out back and smoke meth. Don't know how accurate that is, but just reporting what I read.

The Blackbears arena holds just under 5,500 people. And I don't know how much tickets cost, but I'd have to imagine the most expensive Maine ticket is cheaper than the cheaper Wings ticket. Plus, according to the website, fulltime Maine students get in for free. That's like saying Major League Baseball should put a team here in College Station, because the A&M baseball team is popular.

When I took my sports law class, we got to talk to Ernie Harwell and Mickey Redmond. I'd ask him something along the lines of what he thinks hockey needs to do to market itself and be a major sport again.
