Should the Islanders, Blues, Blackhawks, and Bruins lose their team, considering that they're all behind Florida, Nashville, and Atlanta for average attendance? Those aren't southern teams...but they have poor attendance. I'm so confused. I thought every team above the mason-dixon line sold out every night. Silly me. I think I'm going to start a petition for Ilitch to raise ticket prices. That way we Wings fans can prove that we're true fans. Not like those johnny-come-latelys in Tampa that only go because of low ticket prices.

You mean the same Tampa Bay that has the third highest average attendance in the league and a 100.4% sell out rate?

I don't think there's such a thing as a city that "deserves" a team. The whole idea of it is pretty stupid. I'd like a team in Austin. I could go watch hockey, then hit 6th Street.

Stars president 'sick' of Predators' overall attitude
BlakChamber replied to Salviaman's topic in General
Maybe instead of bitching about the Preds, Jim Lites needs to have some words with his media/marketing department But, despite the fact that the Preds are just a bunch of slack jawed yokels who don't know anything about hockey because they don't live in a cold weather state, the organization still mangaged to get their two working brain cells to fire, and realized that Modano might score a record breaking goal on their ice. So why no announcement? Modano himself is behind that. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar.../703200373/1028 -

Considering how little attention this has gotten on NHL.com, why aren't more people complaing about Bettman? Hockey fans love to bash Bettman. -

So having seats that the average fan can afford is a bad thing? A couple other thoughts. The more I think about it, the more this seems to be a screw up on the Dallas marketing/media department. It should have been their job to tell the Preds that Modano might get a record breaking goal during the game. If he does, could you please make an annoucement. I have a very hard time believing that they did this, and the Preds P.A. guy or the Preds organization decided to be a dick and just not do it. And second, during or around the lockout, Modano suggested that Nashville should be contracted. That isn't going to score him points with the Preds fans, who probably still don't like him. -

You mean those same Tampa Bay Lightning that have the third highest average attendance and average 100.4% capacity? http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2007 I'd adjust that thinking cap there. -

You're comparing two different things. If/when Bonds breaks the HR record, it would be like someone breaking Gretzky's scoring record. And unless he breaks the record in San Fran, the fans sure aren't going to cheer him. Modano's record would be like a Canadian player setting the record for most homeruns by a Canadian. The league should make some sort of announcement, but to get bent out of shape over this is a little much. But, there's no such thing as an underreaction around here. -

Agreed. Boo f'n hoo, Dallas. -
Other than the Midwest, my bracket is still in good shape. I have all my Elite 8 teams except Wisconsin.

When's the last time Lloyd beat OSU? He's still got his job

UM isn't going to get a good coach unless the university shows an actual commitment to the sport. Translation: if a coach doesn't like our facilities, tough s***. Considering this quote from the article UM is lucky they have a basketball team. A smaller school probably would have gotten a SMU style death penalty. http://www.wtopnews.com/index.php?nid=177&...0831&page=1

I think because there are more American and European players. If there were 20 teams worth of Canadian players in a 21 team league, and now there's 16.5 teams worth of a Canadian players in a 30 team league, clearly someone has stepped up to fill the void. At least that's how I read it.

Pop quiz, which of the following constitutes a foul against Tyler Hansborough? 1: Breathing on him 2: Looking at him 3: Being on the same court as him 4: All of the above. Anyway, despite the loss last night, I'm very proud of how my Spartans did this season. They lost 3 players to the NBA draft and the general consensus was it would be a down year for MSU. Instead they hang with the Heels most of the game. Like Timothy said, MSU just ran out of gas. The thing I liked most about this season was that this was a classic Izzo team. Defense and rebounding. I love seeing it. Supposedly MSU has a great recruiting class coming in next year. The Spartans don't rebuild, they reload And I'm sad to see Tommy Turtleneck go

MSU beat LSSU. That should get the Spartans an at large bid.

If you'd like to talk college hockey, there's a good thread in the Other Sports forum.

25 of 32 for me. Anyone have a coverage map for today? I'm hoping UNC/MSU is on down here.
-
Losing to the Weasels always sucks, but at least we're still tied for 9th in the PWR. A win today over LSSU should seal our tournament spot.
-
What a great night of basketball. MSU wins, Duke loses and scUM gets embarrassed in the NIT. My best bracket so far only had 2 wrong, Texas Tech and Oral Roberts.

According to USCHO, he never wore a C or A. But, it doesn't look like their list is perfect. I don't think he did though.

I don't believe Detroit has been the murder capital for a while now. I was trying to point out an untrue stereotype.

Is throwing an octopus really any better? Just because its been happening since the 50's makes it ok while the catfish isn't because it's a new team?
