No. As Jedi said, they are mandatory in the AHL. And in NCAA hockey all players have to wear a full face shield or cage. There will be a day when visors are mandatory in the NHL. I'm actually surpried the league hasn't tried to force the issue yet. The owners pay guaranteed contracts, they should be doing everything they can to protect their players. How was Toskala available at a reasonable price, or even available? After having a better season than Nabokov and being cheaper, if any goalie was going to be goal, it was Nabby. I never heard anything about Toskala being available except on this board, who considered every goalie in the league available last summer.

Most exciting season I remember, since I was 4 in 1984. Vegas has the Indians at 30/1 to win the Series. I think that might be a good sleeper bet.

Yes, but at the same time, you can't ignore the present and hold out for the future. A team in the Wings position has the goal to win the Cup this year. It's not a rebuilding year. If you have to trade a prospect or two in order to get a player that's going to help win the Cup now, you do it. I'm not saying completely mortgage the future, but you can't sit on your hands saying "we can't trade Player X, he might turn into a good player in a few years" if trading him meant getting a player that would make an immediate impact. Of course, I suppose it's a moot point when it comes to Smyth, since I can't see him coming here.

Believe me, I'm not exactly excited about the win. I'm happy they won, I'm happy I don't have to listen to Wolverine fans today, and I'm glad that someone other than Neitzel stepped up. Nice job by Raymar Morgan, he's going to be huge. But other than that, I wasn't impressed by MSU. Here's a good picture from the Detroit News. To be fair, Michael Moore isn't a UM alum. You can't compare the 2002 Yzerman to the 2007 Zetterberg. The 1987 Yzerman to the 2007 Zetterberg is a much better comparison. I went to an Icebats game where there were 50 people there. Seriously. Granted, it was the same day as when Texas was playing in the Rosebowl... If any Texas city is going to get a NHL team, it will be Houston. Fourth largest city in America. The owner of the Rockets has said he wants to get a NHL team and the Toyota Center is a NHL ready arena. I believe Houston has tried to get a team before. And the Aeros are a good draw, they're in the top third of the league in attendance.

Hamilton? A city with a 20 year old arena smack dab between Buffalo, Detroit, and Toronto and who's AHL attendance is in the bottom half of the league? Yeah, I bet they're tops to get a NHL team. Nashville is in trouble. It's too bad. They've finally got a good team. It's a good arena, and what fanbase they have are pretty good.

Crosby Stills and Nash made some good music, but Neil Young is head and shoulders above the rest of them. Anyway, I'm in agreement with BRTD. Zetterberg is a good player and I think he'll be a good guy to build a team around. But he's not going to be mentioned in the same breath as Crosby and Ovechkin when it's all done. I wonder what the results would be if you went to a generally hockey forum, like HFBoards and ran a poll asking if people if they would trade Zetterberg for Crosby, how many would say no. I doubt many, no matter what the alleged intangibles are.

I can see it now. Zetterberg gone, everyone in the locker room, crying their eyes out. Crosby walks into the room, everyone turns their back to him. Pavel tells Holland that he'll sign for whatever, because he has no will to live anymore since Zetterberg is gone

Zetterberg has 26 goals to Crosby's 25. But Crosby has 32 more assists and is 7 years younger. He's also a +13 so it isn't like he's costing his team goals. Look, I like Zetterberg, he's probably my favorite player on the Wings. But if the Wings had to chance to trade him for Crosby, they'd be insane not to do it.

I agree with your disagreement. I would trade Zetterberg for Crosby or Ovechkin in a heartbeat.
