I know. It was more a general complaint about how big a deal some people make about it.

Can I get something off my chest? I really dislike the "so and so played a weak schedule" arguments. For the most part, games are scheduled years in advance. Texas A&M has some games for the 2011 season already scheduled. I only know this because they play MSU. Second, no one plays a tough non-conference schedule. If you're a major conference school with a decent rep, you schedule 1 real opponent, and 2-3 cupcakes to make sure you don't loss. If you only do 2 cupcakes, you do 1 reasonable opponent. Look at MSU this year. ND, Idaho, Eastern, and Pitt. One real team (although its debatable if the Irish are a real team) 2 cupcakes, and 1 around MSU levels. OSU isn't going to go out and schedule Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, and Miami for a non-conference schedule, it just doesn't happen. Your strength of schedule is out of your control for the most part. If you're in a good conference, you have a good strength of schedule. If you're not, you don't.

I think the bigger travesty is that Ozzie Smith is in the hall of fame while Trammell isn't. Ozzie was the better fielder, but Tram was the far superior hitter while being a very well regarded fielder as well. If you went back to the 80's, I doubt you'd find many GM's that would have taken Smith over Tram. Not to say Smith isn't deserving, but I don't see how he is more than Tram. The biggest snub from the 80's Tiger teams is Jack Morris. 3 World Series rings, winningest pitcher of the 80's, and pitcher of one the greatest World Series games out there.

Well...that was unexpected.

Considering both our statements are speculation, yours are about as valid as mine. I just don't try to state them as fact. I always figured that teams that should win the national championship, don't finish 10-2, and lose in the bowl game where they are favored.

So now, according to Eva, UM was 4 points away from being national champions and 1 player away from from a Rose Bowl win. I love the what if game. If MSU had beaten ND this year, they would have beaten Illinois and rolled into Ann Arbor 5-0, and full of confidence. Since UM often has trouble against the spread and mobile quarterbacks, I have no doubt that this would finally be the year that Stanton beats Michigan. With the Spartans 6-0, the game against OSU would have been filled with Spartan fans instead of Buckeye fans. Seeing all their fans there, instead of a sea of red inside Spartan Stadium (I was there, it as close to half OSU fans) would have given the Spartans the edge they needed to beat OSU. Once they knocked off OSU, John L, realizing he has a chance to save his job and become a hero in Spartanville, wins the rest of his games, including the end of the season in Happy Valley, a traditional loss. After going undefeated and winning the Big 10, the Spartans play Florida for the National Championship, and no doubt beat them. After all, they've knocked off UM and OSU. But in conclusion, MSU was only one game away (Notre Dame) from the National Championship.

I'm going with SD and Chicago. I don't know if anyone's going to stop LT. The NFC is pretty much a crap shoot, so why not pick Da Bears.

Carr doesn't get outcoached that often because most of the time he can go with his plan and it works. Ram the ball down the other teams throat and overpower them with Michigan's talent. Carr's problem is he's stubborn and often doesn't make adjustments when he needs to, at least against the teams that match up to UM talent wise. Look at the comments from USC players after the game. They said they knew exactly what UM was going to do. That being said, I have a lot of respect for Carr. He runs a clean program, graduates his athletes, and seems to genuinely care about his players. Really, there need to be more guys in college football like him.

There was a guy in my beer league who had a jersey just like that.

According to the College Football Data Warehouse, Michigan State has 3 recognized national championships. Michigan has 7, although really, it should be 6.5 To be fair, as much as I hate the Wolverines, they should have been sole National Champs in 1997. The parting gift for the Nebraska coach shows why there needs to be a playoff...
-
Michigan fans still haven't gotten over 1997. Asking them to get over last year is a little much to ask...

Has Charlie Weiss won a big game yet in ND?

I only got to watch 2 Lions game this year. But my impression of Kinta from watching and reading about the games is that he's a serviceable QB. He's never going to be mistaken for Manning or Brady, but he can get the job done. Unless the Lions have a chance to get a real stud that's already an NFL vet, I don't see what benefit there would be to yet another QB change. The QB wasn't the problem in Detroit when Joey was here, and it's not the problem now.
-
I don't follow the Falcons too close, but what does Matt Schaub bring to the table that Kitna doesn't? And sign me up on the pick Joe Thomas bandwagon.

You want pathetic, you could change it to Carr I read this on another site Carr is 0-6 in the last two games of the season for the past three seasons 1-5 against OSU his last 6 tries Lloyd is right now 2-10 finishing the season (last two games) over the past six seasons. Ouch. Granted, those aren't John L. Smith-like ending season numbers, but that doesn't look good. So what do UM fans want to see happen with Lloyd? I was pretty impressed how UM bounced back from a bad (by their standards) season last year. 11-2 is pretty impressive, but when your two losses are OSU and your bowl game, that's never good. Is it time for some new blood at UM?
-
Why start now then? All season it's been a good thread where everyone gets along. Sure there's some trash talking but its all in good fun. There's another Detroit sports forum I post on where I avoid college football topics that don't concern the Spartans. Why? Because the place is crawling with your typical obnoxious WalMart-Wolverine fans. Here, all the Michigan fans are cool, even the ones who didn't go there There's nothing wrong with Manny's avatar. I've rocked a In Drew We Trust avatar the last couple years.

Jim McKenzie was the other Spartan who missed the Harvard game. He played against UM though. And right on, Icer about the MSU PP. It's about time it started clicking. At least after the road games against Miami, the rest of the schedule isn't too bad. Michigan at home is they only really tough game after Miami.
-
He's still got 3 years left on his contract
-
I've got to agree with Timothy. You're making a HUGE stretch here, saying UM was 4 points away from being National Champions. The OSU/UM game was not as close as the score appeared. Further more, you now proclaim UM would beat Florida, yet they can't even beat the 2 loss Trojans? Sorry, it just doesn't add up.
-
Sorry Michigan fans. Tough break.
-
^^^ Not that it matters. The Lions don't need Brady Quinn. He'd get killed behind the swiss-cheese that passes for the Lions offensive line.
-
^^^ Yeah, but you also thought UM beating CMU was equal to Florida beating Tennessee, so sorry if I take your analysis with a grain of salt
-
Close. Abdelkader. According to the recap on USCHO, MSU was missing another forward, at least against Harvard. Unfortunately, they didn't say who, and haven't been paying close enough attention to MSU lately to know who it was. But hey, winners find a way to win. Losers make excuses

Michigan State wins the GLI, beating the Weasels 4-1 tonight, and Harvard 5-2 last night
