Perhaps I should clarify what I meant by having a playoff and the bowl system. I would incorporate the BCS bowls into the playoff system, like the SI article suggests. I would keep the rest of the bowls around and teams could still play in them. I look at it as win-win. There's a playoff system. The big bowls are incorporated, and still get the best matchups. The rest of the bowls can stick around so everyone gets paid.

Barring a collapse in the Big 10 season, MSU will make the tournament on the basis of being MSU.

How much tradition is really left in the bowls anyway? The big bowls have been co-opted by the BCS. Everyone else has changed their name to suit a corporate sponser. Good luck finding the Citrus or Peach bowl anymore. The Sun, Cotton, and Gator got off easy. They just had to add the sponsor in front of their names. Besides, the majority of the bowls are less than 30 years old, with over half of them being less than 20 years old. So really, how much tradition is there to ruin in the first place?

No system is 100% perfect, but I think something like what SI proposes is a lot better than the current system. The mid-majories won't like it, but how much complaining can the mid-majors really do? I mean, yeah Boise State is undeafted, and TCU had that run a couple years ago. But can you really compare a 12-0 Boise State to a 12-0 Ohio State? One thing I've always thought might work is keep all the bowl games in addition to the playoffs, and if your team doesn't make the playoffs, you can still go to a bowl. That way it keeps the minor bowls and universities happy, since they're still getting bowl revenue.

He didn't rip Michigan, he ripped their fans. Unless there was a quote that I didn't see. And what he said was true anyway.

Why hate Drew? It's not like he ever beat Michigan. Three years ago was the closest, until he got taken out with a cheap shot. Man, I don't wish being the Lions QB on anyway...that's just brutal.

I agree about Quinn, he's incredibly overrated. Has ND ever won a big game under Wiess yet anyway? Quinn coupled with the Lions oline would be a disaster.

I really wanted to go to Alabama this year. The first year GV made it to the championship was my last year at GV. I still haven't been, I've heard that GVSU supporters just take over the town.

Well, by that logic, Grand Valley should be playing for the National Championship, since they beat Tech. Make sure to watch GVSU, this Sunday on ESPN2

This is an aside, but there's one more reason I didn't want to see the rematch. I was subjected to about 2 weeks worth of non-stop coverage about how the OSU/UM was the game of the century, and whoever won this would win the national championship. Then the games over, and its like, "oh, well, they'll just end up playing again." Of course, it's all ESPN's doing.

Every other division in ncaa football can make a playoff work, there's no reason that D1 can't as well. Of cour$e, I know why the big $chool$ wouldn't want to $witch to a playoff $y$tem.

Yeah, not that I really care what happens to Michigan, but speaking strictly as a Big 10 fan, they should be playing USC in the Rose Bowl. It wouldn't seem right otherwise.

I'll be annoyed if its not UM/USC in the Rose Bowl. It would be the perfect chance for a classic Big 10/Pac 10 matchup. Was LSU confirmed to be there, or is it just a bunch of crazy cajuns believing internet rumors and buying tickets? As a side note, did anyone else watch the Rutgers/WVU game last night? What a nailbiter. I was really hoping to see Rutgers in a BCS bowl, but, I can't complain too much. They're in the Texas Bowl, so I'll be going to see it.

Carr was out there doing his own brand of campaigning, saying he hopes Michigan having two weeks off isn't going to hurt them. It's not quite as up front as Meyer is, because that's not Carr's style, but its the same thing. I read this on another board, and I think its a pretty good summation of Michigan's argument. Michigan's strongest argument to be in the Championship is that they had a better loss than Florida did. Weak.

The facts, at least according to an ESPN article 1. Florida beat nine teams that are projected to play in bowl games. Michigan beat six. 2. Michigan beat five teams that finished the season with losing records. Florida beat two teams with sub-.500 records. 3. Florida's 12 Division I-A opponents had a combined record of 89-57. Michigan's 12 opponents had a combined record of 84-61. 4. Michigan's best win is considered a 27-13 victory over Wisconsin on Sept. 23. The Badgers are 11-1 and have climbed to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll, despite having played only one ranked opponent -- the Wolverines -- the entire season. 5. The 12 teams Florida defeated finished the season with 11 combined wins against opponents which were ranked in the AP Top 25 poll at the time the game was played. The opponents Michigan defeated claim just three wins against ranked teams (Notre Dame beat Penn State. Indiana beat Iowa. Vanderbilt beat Georgia. The Nittany Lions, Hawkeyes and Bulldogs, it should be noted, haven't been ranked in seven weeks). 6. The Gators went 3-1 against ranked opponents, beating then-No. 13 Tennessee, No. 9 LSU and No. 8 Arkansas and losing at No. 11 Auburn. The Wolverines went 1-1 against ranked opponents, beating a highly overrated No. 2 Notre Dame team (that lost to Michigan and USC by a combined total of 46 points) and losing at No. 1 Ohio State 42-39 on Nov. 18. 7. The Gators' average margin of victory against Division I-A teams was 13.5 points. They won seven games by 14 points or fewer, six by less than 10. The Wolverines' average margin of victory was 17.3 points. They won six games by 14 points or fewer, two by less than 10. 8. The Gators played Western Carolina, a Division I-AA team, and won by 62 points. The Wolverines played Ball State, which should be a I-AA team, and won by eight. 9. Since the Wolverines last played and lost at Ohio State, the Gators won at Florida State (The Seminoles are 6-6, but rivalry games are tough to win. Just ask USC coach Pete Carroll) and then beat the No. 8 Razorbacks, who defeated then-No. 2 Auburn and No. 13 Tennessee by 17 points each. 10. Michigan didn't win the Big Ten; Florida won the SEC. Winning your conference should be a prerequisite for playing in the national championship.

I think its tough to say the media wants to screw UM. UM is a media darling. Given the national fanbase of UM, they're going to have a lot of fans tuning in to whatever bowl game they're in. Its not like they're Boise State or something like that.
