I believe Bonderman is up for arbitration this year. I'd like to see Dombrowski offer him a 4 year deal. I wonder what the Tigers could get for Nate. He's a solid pitcher. He should have had a better season this year, but the lack of run support he got at the end of the season hurt his record. And he's a lefty.

I'm still bummed about what happened. But at the same time, I never, ever, in my wildest dreams thought the Tigers would have been in the World Series this year. So thank you too everyone in the Tiger organization. From Mr. Ilitch to the singing hotdog guy. You finally gave me a reason to watch baseball in September.

I really think that Kenny Rogers needs to be pitching tonight. I know he'll get heckled to death in St. Louis, and I know that Leyland wants to save him for Detroit. But right now they need to worry about getting back to Detroit. What a frustrating game to watch last night. Just when I thought the Tigers had finally got their bats going, s*** happens.

Also, Deadspin has a good take on last night. http://www.deadspin.com/sports/baseball/le...gear-210262.php

For those of us without Insider, what's the article say?

Back in the day baseball played a 154 game schedule. It was lengthed to 162 in the 1960's. I think baseball has actually gotten pretty lucky it hasn't had more weather problems in the World Series. You'll taking a fairly big chance playing this late in October. If you've got southern teams, it isn't a big deal. But with northern or midwestern teams, there's always the chance for poor weather.

Here's tonight's lineup 1. Granderson, CF 2. Monroe, LF 3. Guillen, SS 4. Ordonez, RF 5. Casey, 1B 6. Rodriguez, C 7. Polanco, 2B 8. Inge, 3B 9. Bonderman, P

I don't think Carpenter's pitch count got above 90. He wasn't worn out. I like Zumaya, he's my Tiger. But he's also a 21 year old rookie and they're going to make bone-headed plays sometimes. It's just a shame it happened when it did. The fact that Granderson, Pudge, and Polanco (of all people) don't have one hit between the three of them is far more concerning to me than Zoom having a brain fart.

What an ugly game. Fair to poor pitching and no hitting. Tip o the hat to Carpenter. He was damn sharp tonight.

Scuffing the ball or putting something on your hand is part of the game. That's why you don't hear the Cardinals players complaining. They know that their guys are doing it too. The Cards had a pitcher suspended in 04 for getting caught with pine tar on his hands. I don't believe for a minute, that with an old school manager and pitching coach like La Russa and Duncan, the Cards have stopped using. There was a thing about Chris Carpenter on Cold Pizza yesterday and a very pine tar like smudge on his hat. I'm sure he'll have a new hat tonight though. The only reason this is even a story is because of Fox. For whatever reason, they just have to have some kind of "story" for their post season. And since Leyland and La Russa won't talk about their friendship, they've got to find something else. You'd think that the series with a team who lost 119 games 3 years ago, and a team that has lost the world series 2 out of the last three years; and both from great baseball towns would be enough. But I guess it's not. Despite Rogers relationship with the media, and two big Cards slappies doing the game, I don't think that Fox or their announcers are out to get Rogers or the Tigers. I just think that they looking for any sort of story they can find, and the pine tar thing just feel into their lap, so to speak. If they really want a story, why don't they looki into the allegations of Puljos using HGH...

Here's the article BetterRed was talking about. Pretty interesting. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/061023

I as I said in another Tigers thread. I like Todd Jones. It's my heart rate that doesn't. As far as Kenny and what was on his hand, I'm pretty sure it probably was pine tar. That's baseball though. Of course, MLB is saying it was dirt. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...rtnered=rss_det

^^^ I didn't like those jerseys for a few reasons. First off, I like the Spartan head on the helmet instead of the block S. I didn't like the pinstripes, and I always thought the green for those jerseys just didn't look right.

Everything's bigger in Texas A&M is planning on expanding eventually. I will be kinda surprised if it happens though. Aggies tend to be very set in their ways. Kyle Field got a new scoreboard and new ribbon boards this year, and there were angy letters to the editor for a month about it. As for jerseys, the current MSU jerseys are waaaaaaay better than the ones when Smoker was here. I hated the pin stripes.

I honestly am amazed that MSU won.
-
Yeah, they must be damn good. They took UM and BC to overtime. And they beat MSU and Alaska-Fairbanks. Strangely they got smoked by both New Hampshire and Alaska-Anchorage.
-
It's like in the 1998 Stanley Cup and James Brown on Fox picked Washington to win. I figured that Fox just made the black guy pick the team that everyone figured had no shot to win
-
MSU is off to a slow start. They thottled WMU for their opener at Munn, but lost at Lawson the next day. Then they got beat by a very talented U-18 team this week. Once the Spartans get rolling, I'm not too worried. Their first and second lines can hang with anyone in the CCHA, and probably anyone in college hockey. The third and fourth lines are a little weak though. So far the defense seems to be pretty good, despite losing Potter and Nightengale. I just wish Drew Miller stuck around for his senior year though.

From the article: I thought I read that he was going to be out on the mound when Sparky throws out the first pitch for game 2. Anyway, very nice article. Growing up, Trammell was my favorite Tiger. I still wear number 3 whenever I play sports because of him. He could be bitter if he wanted. The Tigers organization basically hired him, along with Gibby and Parrish as a publicity stunt. Granted, Trammell probably wouldn't have gotten a big league managing job if it wasn't for the Tigers. Still, I was pretty bitter toward the Tigers after last season, for the way Tram got treated. However, what makes me more bitter is that Trammell, along with Jack Morris, isn't in the Hall of Fame. Guess he should have done a few backflips like Ozzie Smith during his career, that might have helped

I'm surprised that Bonderman is getting the 4th slot. I'd prefer to see Nate and Bondo trade spots. But, I'm not going to second guess Leyland. If he's got Bondo in the 4th spot, he's got a reason for it.

According to the latest US News rankings, the top 5 public schools are 1: UC-Berkley 2: UVA 3: UM 4: UCLA 5: UNC 19: tOSU 32: MSU

That's a good idea. I would love me some TIVO right now. I've got to go to the store this afternoon and stock up on beer and munchies for the game. Any word on the starting rotations yet?

I'm really glad that Tramm is going to be there. If I hear one boo directed toward Trammell, I will make it my life's mission to track that person down and make them pay...

I'd rather see the Cards as well. The Tigers have history with the Cards, losing to them in the 34 World Series and beating them in 68. Plus they're a franchise with a lot of history, like Detroit. So it would be cool to see a couple old school teams going at it.
