Most Exciting Active Athletes In Sports?

Hockey: Oveckin, Datsyuk Baseball: Shelton, Zumaya (I'm biased) Football: Tomlinson, Vick Basketball: LeBron (don't watch enough NBA to pick anyone else)

The Tigs have won 6 of 8 on their road trip. As far as the box score goes, it looks like Bonderman had a pretty good outing last night.

For some reason I thought he had a change up as well. My mistake. But yeah, you're absolutely right. You can't go 7 innings in the majors with only 2 pitches.

I saw this in the mailbag on the Tigers site the other day Will Joel Zumaya ever get a start this year? -- Anthony N., Middleville, Mich. Not according to Leyland, and the way it looks now, possibly not ever. I think what we've seen from Zumaya pretty much cements his future as a late-inning reliever. It certainly does for this year as long as he's in the Majors. The more he works one or two innings per outing, the more difficult it would be to stretch him out for a start. If the Tigers needed a spot starter from this bullpen right now, it would be Jordan Tata or Jason Grilli. I love seeing Zumaya come out of the pen and throw gas, but at the same time, everything I've read says he has the tools to be a great starter, why assign him to the pen already? I know there wasn't room in the rotation this year at the start of the season. I don't know...just thinking out loud here.

I have to go with Polanco as well. If Guillen returns to his 2004 form, I might change my mind. But right now I'll take Polanco. I think we need to set a cut off date to be a "true" Tigers fan this season. Seperate us from the bandwagoners

Even though Rodney has done well so far, he still makes me nervous. At least German and Yan are gone. Those guys would give you a heart attack every time they threw the ball.

I read something, can't remember who or where, that suggested Bonderman isn't going to be an ace because he's basically a 2 pitch pitcher, his fastball and his slider. Because he was rushed to the bigs so early, he never really had a chance to develop his change up. Obviously, he can still develop a change, but its going to be tougher to develop a pitch when you're throwing it to big-league hitters. You can certainly be a success in the bullpen with two pitches, but you're not going to be an ace with only two.

    He won't go to jail.

That's how it sounded to me. Shelton and Leyland got the most cheers, along with Jerome Bettis. Kwame got boo'ed, although not as bad as last year. Zumaya got a pretty good round of applause when he came out too. I was at opening day last year too, and the crowd today didn't seem as fired up. I don't know if its because the weather was a little cooler, or that the season had already started, there wasn't the electricity there was last year. And, we were sitting at the very top of the upper deck behind home plate, so the F-16's flew right over us. It was pretty f**king cool

I was at opening day for the Tigers today. Other than the homers, the Tigers pitching didn't look that bad. Of course, its kind of hard to judge when you started drinking at 9:00 am

Justin Verlander makes his first start of the season tonight. I'm actually annoyed that the Wings are on. I really want to see this kid pitch.

Good article. I can't wait until Howard is the Wings goalie. (no need to rush him though )

If you believe that Bonds wasn't using roids, shoot me a PM. I have some ocean-front property in Arizona I'm looking to sell cheap. Good post by gowingsgo.

I can't wait to see Verlander pitch. I didn't like how in his two starts last year with the Tigers, he had Vance Wilson catching him. Why not have one of the best catchers ever in Pudge handle a rookie? Although I think one of the times Pudge was hurt. As far as Rollin's hitting streak, I think its actually tougher to start up again. True, you are rested, but at the same time you're not in a zone. If he does break the record, and I don't think he will, he should get a seperate one. Longest streak over two seasons.

That's for sure. Detroit, and the rest of the state is just waiting for the Tigers to do good again. I went to the Cup parade in 2002, but there is no doubt in my mind, that if the Tigers won the World Series, the size of the Tigers parade would just be amazing. As a random note, I'm cleaning out my room at home since I'm moving, I found a 1968 Tigers pennant my uncle gave me a long time ago. It's pretty sweet

I have already developed a man crush on Joel Zumaya. Just imagine him when he has a few years experience under his belt. Is anyone else going to the home opener in Detroit next Monday? I'll be there. And I have to echo betterred, I honestly can't think of something that could happen in the world of sports that would make me happier than seeing the Tigers win the World Series. I was only four years old in 1984, so I don't remember the Tigers winning the World Series. I remember that my mom bought me a pennant though when they won.

Like they were saying on PTI the other day, that was just the San Diego fans who gave it to him pretty good. What's it going to be like when he goes to someplace like New York, Philly, LA, or Chicago?
