Anybody know when camp starts? I thought it was sometime this week, but I can't find anything on it. Is Grigs gonna be there?

$5.2 million? Apparently the drugs test are just for roids because they are missing all the crack everybodies smoking.
-
What we should do is trade our 3,546th round pick for Nash, Iginla, Heatley, Staal, and see if the Lightning will toss in Vinnie.
-
I don't think Columbus is going to add any more payroll, even if Lang isn't that expensive. Rupp has been passed around like an indian peace pipe, which raises questions, IMO.

Great article.

He is an RFA after this season meaning Florida has a right to match any contract offer. I'm not understanding you. They don't have to trade him if they don't want to. They can take him to arbitration next season if they need to.I'm pretty sure he'll be an unrestricted free agent with the new cba. Maybe not though, I haven't really checked into it.

Luongo is the most playoff ready goalie in the league next to Hasek and Brodeur. All the times you cringe when you hear "odd man rush" won't automatically result in a goal as it usually does with Legace and Osgood. Luongo has proven that he can stand on his head with a piss poor team, just imagine im on the Wings. The Panthers have already said publicly that they are looking for a top foward to replace Weiss, since hes injured. Trade Lang and Legace. It sounds a bit steap but think about it, would you rather have a garunteed Luongo under contract or wait for free agency, when a team like Columbus decides to spend and locks him up for years.
I agree with your point, but Luongo has never played a playoff game, so it's hard to tell what he'll do. I'm pretty certain he'll be amazing, but you never know. If all it took to get Luongo is Lang and Legace, they'de be long gone by now. It's gonna take something alot more than that. Good thing though is that he wants to play for a cup contender, which rules out a bunch of teams. Colorado will prolly make a pitch for him, and it would not suprise me to see the Nucks, Flyers, and Toronto, if they actually make it to the playoffs.

He's extremely young and admittedly a high risk/high reward pick. He can be a game breaker or he might never wrap his head around the game.Agreed. It seems that every first round pick for the last 10 years has been that way.
-
Grigs will be here next year. I think Liv will try his hand at NA hockey, prolly the AHL. Hudler still needs to develope, Kopecky and Bootland would be nice to see. Wouldn't amaze me to see Quincy pop in a game or 2. I was hoping Tolsa would get his s**t togethor, but that looks doubtful.

damn right go with a cheaper goalie and depth on D. Who I got my eye on is the Manny for the Wild, problem is he's starting to establish himself and thus might demand hot dollar on the market. Even though their tanking this year I believe (the thing is I don't know if their all going to be UFAs) these goalies might be darkhorse UFAs come this summer.Nabby
Weekes
John Grahame?
Boucher?
Ty Conklin
knock on them all you want, they have the ability and have proven to steal games and make the differance.
Boucher sucks big time. Nabokov would be fantastic.
Luongo would be a great pickup. You can argue save the money and get a better d-man, but if you had Luongo, you wouldn't need as many high priced d-men. Personally I would rather see us have easily one of the top 3 goaltenders in the NHL and let some of our younger, cheaper d-men develope in the big league a little without fear of f**king up and having bush league Boucher being there to usher in the puck. Freeing up enough money to sign Luongo, that is another story.

Weight is too old and slow. Calgary could make a pitch for him, but we are way too deep on center to waste our time. Even if he did get switched to the wing, I'm sure they'll be a couple other wingers available who would be a better fit.
-
I don't see Igor coming over unless Detroit really seems to need a winger by mid-season. I realize the Wings are indeed quite weak down the right side, but so far this season, they haven't really showed it.I agree. Unless injuries play a big role, we prolly won't see much of him this year. Next year he should come over. Hopefully. Please god.
-
I used to be pretty high on Nolan, but now I can't stand him. If he came cheap, I guess it would be okay. But he's so damn injury prone, and after this whole thing with the leafs, I can't really stand him.
-
So no one really answered this. Is it possible? Is it allowed?I don't think so, there was a deadline back in sept. I think that stopped us from signing prospects. Samuelsson didn't fall under that because he wasn't one of our prospects. I think.

sorry I believe a hockey player should play hockey not fight only (if he can't score, or defend he's a figure skating boxer and deserves to be out of the league) I hate people saying a team has to have a fighter, if I want to see a fight I watch boxing.Keep in mind there are rules that limit fighting (they haven't been enforced, but they are there)such as the wording of instigator (you chase a guy to fight him it's supposed to be an instigator penalty)I used Avery as an example since he is known to take alot of penalties. It seems if it was up to you there would be one skilled player and a bunch of goons on each team. The wings will get someone who can fill both roles well enough they don't need a guy who appears mediocre at best.We really didn't have an enforcer the last season but did pretty well (until playoffs, which may be taken care of with coaching)Stupidity seems to flowing today. That's fantastic that you think Hockey players should never be physical or fight, but fighting has been a part of hockey since the NHL started in 1917. That's great you jumped on the band wagon recently, but get a clue. Not once has anybody said we need a team of goons. You think coaching is the reason we lost in the playoffs? Our old ass team was so tired out they had nothing left, because Nashville and Calgary ground us down to nothing. Lewis did everything he could to keep us in it, and we couldn't do a damn thing. Wings are going to get someone to fill both roles? When? If their are tons of good, two way players who can fill both roles, wouldn't we have gotten one by now? Check into it and see how many instagator penalties have been given out in the preseason, it's probably a lot less than you think. Bottom line is we need toughness. Bowman knows it. Babcock knows it. Yzerman knows it. Shanahan knows it. Holland says he knows it. What are you missing here?
-
Yes, Lidstrom is the best defensemen in the league. If not 2nd best, but being the best defenseman doesn't make you the best offensive D-man.So who is?
Although he is tough, is not tough enough to be this teams no.1 guy, the Wings need someone like Oliwa or Langdon someone who can drop them with anyone and send a message but then again he is better than nothing. I seriously think Holland will get a forward for the fourth line though.I agree, but he would be a nice fit with Chelios. Plus he can move fairly well. And he's never been on a good team, so it would be interesting to see what he could do. We could prolly get him for a late round pick, most likely conditional.
-
Wrong.Leech, Niedermeyer, Tarnstrom, Gonchar, Berard, Pronger, Zidlicky, Zubov... Just to name a few. I would consider Schneider a 2 way defenseman, and Lidstrom's definately defense. Yeah, 2 of the best offensive defenseman, if you want to add 15 other defenseman to the table.
Schneider is no slouch, and is easily better than Berard and Tarnstrom. Even so, Lidstrom is the best, and I'de rank Schneider in the top 10, especially after last year.
you want a tough guy go sign a boxer.I want a guy who plays hockey not drop the gloves every chance he gets and keep the team on the penalty kill.(he has 540 some pims too in 245 games. Why do you assume when you fight you go on the penalty kill? For the 900th time, Bowman, Babcock, and Holland say we need more toughness. Here is a young capable, cheap guy who won't log a ton of minutes, but is capable of playing hockey and fighting. I would love to sign a boxer, or maybe Tank Abbot if he learns how to skate. McCarty actually took boxing lessons.
-
I think I'd pass on him, a total of 4 goals and 30 assists in his career, a -43, and 9 of his assists are on the pp.I don't think he'd help muchWell, we have Lidstrom and Schneider, 2 of the best offensive d-men in the NHL. Plus our team was second in scoring last season. Scoring is and will not be an issue with this club. Toughness on the other hand...

Spector's reporting that Ference is on the trading block. He's only 26, and he's 6'3 217 pounds. He has no offense at all, but is inexpensive and could be valuable. I would prefer a foward, but I'll take what I can get. Thoughts?

griffs let big snake go...eptember 30, 2005 - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Friday assigned defenseman Bryce Charpentier to the Florida Everblades (ECHL). In addition, the team released defensemen Brett Angel and Tim Judy, along with forwards Robin Big Snake, Jeff Nelson, Cory Stillman and Daniel Tkaczuk. Twenty-eight players remain on the Griffins’ training camp roster.
That sucks big time.

thats not why I created this thread. I have been a huge fan of Kronwall since he was 16 over in Sweden. I realize that he won't be out for very long, also the players listed below would serve as some freakin soild youth prospects for this Organization which is sorely lacking in that department.Which is exactly why we will not get any of them. Washington is in rebuild mode, which means youth, prospects and picks over everything else. Should put Witt on there, he's the only Washington D-man that'll be moved.
-
Good to here about Hackert! Anybody going to the game tonight?
-
Barnes is dominating on a line with Big Snake. 3 pts last night.Good to see. Is it Barnes-Olahen(sp?)-Big Snake? If so, that has to be one of the hardest lines to play against. Too bad Barnes didn't start swinging, he would got the Gordie Howe.

Pass on Gomez. We have plenty of play making centers and too few goal scorers.

I really wish it was open to the public. It's an absolute blast to attend.
In any case, Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader will have a busy summer as they've been invited to the Canadian and US World Junior Championship evaluation camps, respectively:
Too bad it wasn't open to the public, redwingscentral had some awsome coverage on it last year. No Grigs, Lofberg, or Ryno. I dunno if this is the actual camp, or just a strength and conditioning camp. Last year it was the week before training camp, so I guess we'll see.
