indeed, but it's rather impossible to prove anything here as any such claim would need measurable things to compare and eventually do some maths. my claim that TSN is biased towards canadian teams is based on my own observation. which is impossible to asses by anyone else. though, to support this claim I could name a number of times posters on this very forum discussed such bias, because this is not the first thread ever to name such hypothesis. anyway... with the lack of measurable evidence there's only one thing we can use as reference - other rankings. as I wrote, SI, Yahoo or ESPN do rate the teams differently and on average they have canadian teams rated lower. truth being said, it's neither provable or refutable that those rankings are unbiased, hence they are of no use here. OK, excuses if anyone felt this way. I was trying to defend the bias claim which some posters ridiculed, but I agree I went too far with calling names. my view is that the thing is highly subjective and in general impossible to prove or refute. I do have an impression TSN is biased and I don't buy this thing about formula's but it's just rankings and it would be waste of time to collect and analyze the data to asses this claim. it's just another ranking. excuses and... well... until another TSN ranking

just for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistical_significance and please don't tell me a sample of 2 elements which I've no idea how you picked is anyhow significant in statistical terms. because it's even contrary to common sense... subjective basically implicates biased because people do have preferences even if they try not to take their into account. and yes, I do claim they are biased because this has often enough been my impression when reading through those rankings and seeing how doubts about higher or lower rating of similar teams are resolved in favor of Canadian teams. and I'm talking about checking this rankings basically every single regular season week since maybe 2002. quite a sample if you ask me, definitely more relevant than those 2 above. but no, I'm not going to lose my time to prove it. you have every right to see this differently and I'm not gonna lose my sleep about convincing you. this is my impression but apparently also of quite a number of people who check TSN ranking regularily. truth being said there's also a bias in my observations because I'm more interested in some teams than the other hence my evaluation of TSN ranking is based on partial knowledge, to say the least.. in the end... those are just rankings. nothing more. like them or not. I do like TSN rankings except the fact that on average they push Canadian teams higher than most other rankings.

LOL are we talking about this single ranking or about TSN rankings at all? because I fail to see how single sample speak about whole thing in general. it's totally against laws of statistics I can clearly remember a good number of rankings over the past 3 or 4 years which had Canadian teams higher or much higher than they really deserved to be. excellent example being them stubbornly keeping Senators on top of the ranking during Ottawa's lowly streaks of 2005-06 season while Wings were ripping every team in the league. just to name an example... anyway... TSN pressumable bias towards Canadian teams is perfectly understandible(sp?) to me and I'm OK with that. I'd rather expect my media to pump up my country's teams. but truth being said their rankings often differ from SI.com or Yahoo or ESPN ranking exactly in positioning of Canadian teams. sure, those 3 are US based media but those discrepancies are simply too often and too frequent...

except, this "formula" is pure bulls***. I mean... sure I'm not gonna argue with anyone that Wings are pure best in the NHL right now or earlier into this season but TSN does put them low all the time. I check their ranking basically each week and it hasn't happened for a good while that they had Wings on top other that when it was simpy impossible to refuse the facts. TSN has obvious bias towards Canadian team and I get it. and I'm very much aware there are a number of quality teams who play as good if not better than the Wings. the point is, TSN rankings do the justice to the other teams when it's possible but not much to the Wings. not that I really care, but I'm not a Wings homer but still got impression that this rankings quite consistently rate Wings below their actual competitive strength. might be, that fans of the other teams think the same way, though whatever... the only ranking I care is the number of playoff games won

Mac always was and always will be among my favourite Wings. he had his share of problems in his life but he's been a great player who brought high spirit to the team and energized it. the type of character you love to have on a playoff bound team. I'd love to see him back with Wings in playoffs if his health/condition, time and roster allows.

so, Burke has too few real men in his new team and starts a campaign against fighting, right? wonder what was his take when he was with Disney Ducks... ? I'm for staged fights and against instigator. what I want to be out of the game is head hunting, including cases of specific "player physics" (yes, I mean this dirty bastard Pronger). this should result in automatic suspension of multiple games, and repeated offenders should be banned from the league. it's OK with me when big boys want to face each other and share some hacks. they know their role and understand the risks. on the other hand I'm completely agains chickens who attack unexpecting opponent (read: Tootoo's or Sindy's) or who target vulnerable body parts. make it 4 minutes for high-sticking, make it 4 for fighting unaware player (sure, there's huge gray zone here, but which penalty rule has none?) and make it 4 for kneeling. this is what's most dangerous in this game. but stay the f* out of fighting. there's place for it in hockey. don't make it some soccer or handball where players do a lot of dirty job undercover. leave the fighting aspect of the game transparent. I've watched enough soccer in my life to see how removing fights from the game results in drastic growth of dirty and brutal plays when refs are not watching. plese keep the hockey away from this!

except, 2000 Devils had all essential tools to win the cup. including a goalie who, even if overrated, is a playoff monster capable of winning games basicaly singlehandedly. in front of this very Marty they had Scotty "All Star" Niedermayer, Scott Stevens and a number of other premium defensemen. Habs... they have Price who is all but solid. and the rest of the team is pretty average. though, that's not the biggest problem. this team, for a number of season already, sucks badly on chemistry and work ethics. whatever is the reason they simply won't get it done. Carbo was not the problem there.

there's no way in hell we'd get Armstrong without giving up picks or regular player. nor could it be Laperiere because we simply don't have assets to go for him, especially considering defense depth need. Havelid sound reasonable to me. maybe also Clark who seems to be on decline with Avs and could use another chance in Big Red Machine

I don't know what was rumoured but I can easily imagine Michelle Obstruction pesting his players with crappy attitude. I mean... he might have been a good coach but my impression is he sent clear image to his players that blaming everybody around for own losses is OK. and this is pretty bad start to coach young players if you ask me. as for Crosby being learned... I think he'll realize it was bad quite soon. he needs to become aware he's expected to be a man not a whining pansy, play his game and stop yapping. IMHO he's become captain well too soon but should learn to be rigth C soon. he could use a good, bitchy coach though

dear original poster, I can't blame you for this opinion because you've most likely been grown in Germanic culture. not your fault. but the lack of perspective and knowledge of other cultures is basically your problem. and the newsflash for you is: people is other cultures, i.e. Hindi, Romanic, Slavic or Hispanic (by that meaning Spain and it's old "crown belongings") do feel and do show emotions. simple like that. moreover - this emotions are basically considered normal because showing them is rather common. talent depth not depth per se. they have a number of decent players with good potential. that they don't manage this assets properly - this is a different story...
