it's been like this ever since I watch them play and that would be since about 2002. Scotty Bowman used to lead them to wins in patterns: 3-4 games W, then get some rest - put no effort until late 3rd and if we win then it's cool but nobody's really expecting it the thing is we started this game hard and looked like a team trying to win the contest. we got some unlucky bounces but I see a lot less fire in 3rd than in 1st

isn't this some sort of overstatement? I mean... this is just their 5th game into the season. calling it "this year" is pretty bold in my book. let's just don't turn off the lights until the final whistle or the end of the season. there's a lot of hockey left

QFT this is a jaw dropping effort from Brunnstrom. he basically scores 4 on his first ever NHL game. people who try to diminish his accomplishment need reality check and some serious anti-homerism treatment. Leino this, Leino that... holy cow! except Brunnstrom actually did it and Leino doesn't have to. which doesn't prove him to be worse or better. it's just Brunnstrom did something miraculous and jaw dropping. kudos to him and let's hope he is as good as this. and that Leino is no worse than him

that's right but the big picture is it's not about how the team looks in October but about April and further. so I don't really think there are reason to be anyhow concerned right now. maybe in 2 months if the trend continues...

that's a good point. which leads us to a conclusion that Wings staff apparently believes Chelios has more to give than Quincey. it's tough to believe because the guy is almost as old as Moses. but on the other hand he played almost 70 games last season and then some in playoffs - and he hasn't been the worst guy out there. Holland may as well be right here.

that's a very valid point. I've also been a big fan of Quincey in 2007 playoffs for the very same reasons. as for Chelli... I dunno, man... sure he's not as flashy anymore but he's also a lot of experience and huge educational value so to say. we can't measure this nor even observe but I'm pretty sure this has big importance on our team development. and with Red Wings having defense-first mindset this extra knowledge and experience may be super valuable. IMHO, the thing about keeping Chelli is that he's still OK on the ice and has plenty to give other than just his play in actual games. might be that Holland decided this is more important to the Wings now than keeping a fine prospect. and he had to axe someone

right now? I think I'd rather have Joe Sakic. not that flashy anymore but he is a true leader when it comes to playoffs. unlike the other guy who earned himself the nickname Igoonla

I don't think he had a chance of making regular roster so it's good for him to get out and have a shot on playing regular minutes in NHL. I'm not surprised we weren't able to get any return value for him. the positive thing here is this move helps saturating waiver market. which in turn may later in the season lead to impossibility of dealing extra players by other GM's and will prevent them from increasing their cap space. but that's a long shot

QFT as long as Flames are still in contention you'll only see great things from Iginla. the problem is when his team is down and frustrated. then Iggy is prone to make dumb mistakes and allow the anger to get better of himself and can consequently expose some really reckless and classless behaviour.

oh my... did you by chance took a look into calendar and saw it's October, 10? there's a lot of hockey to be played this season yet. there's no reason to gripe about Wings not playing right now

oh come on... they did win a Stanley Cup once. sure, none of their roster player was even born back then and it's neither sure some of them will live long enough to see one...

at times Avery is right but most certainly not this time. like him or not but Iginla is well recognized and admired for his unique skills. he's a model all-around hockey player and I'd love to see NHL being more over him than that Pittsburgh pansy who cries like a baby. at least you don't see Iggy being **** when his team still has good chance of winning as for Bettman... when this guy started average NHL team had player budget of maybe some $10M. nowadays it averages around $50M and please don't tell me this is an accident. be it for Bettman himself or for some smart people in league leadership but this is working in financial terms and it wouldn't be if the game were not selling. Bettman is easy to dislike and is known to have little clue about the game itself but he's led the league to good financial state and ensured its good prosperity for now and for future. that the game isn't perfect and many people see improvements? OK, but it's not just us, passionate fans. there's not enough of us to support our beloved players sufficiently. there's more about NHL product than just our tastes. NHL hockey it still is great enough to follow
