I'm Calling It Now...Wings Land Olli Jokinen By 3:00

team chemistry was my main concern, too. but in such case Jokinen takes Lang's place on the line with Calder and Franzenstein/Sammy then Cleary. it's pretty much changing the whole 2nd scoring line right now. good or bad? good because the line was nevertheless doing s*** so far. bad, because it has just 1.5 month to glue together and provide scoring. and we desperately need this to work come playoffs. Jokinen would not come for just Lang, though. some pick may also be included. but anyway - I'd love to have Jokinen with Wings. he's big, skilled and brings great leadership. and he's pretty likely to play inspired. I like this idea

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

right. I used yahoo (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/1969) but mistakenly copied 5-8 instead of 5-11. 5-11 is better than 5-8, but still nothing major, though

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

basically, yes. but this is at times enough. Calder has talent and now gets his chance to display it on a quality team at last. it's up to him if he uses the chance coming of a horrible year on horrible team I'd say he is pretty much expected to have inspiration to work hard. the sentence "comes out big when necessary" of TSN report makes me rather optimistic about him. if its' true then we have every reason to belive he'll rejuvenate Lang's line talent-wise, stats-wise - not much, if ever. but I guess those "mental" factors will play the role here. we'll see in a couple of days maybe. but the talking of weak 2nd line was there for a while. and with deadling approaching there's not exactly how to talk about "prompting"

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

yep. I'm with you here. but a change of scenery can do him well. and Wings definitely need some work alongside Lang which Willie was not bringing recently. overall, this can benefit both Wings and Williams

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Calder was fine back in his Chicago days. don't judge him by his Philly season. give him a chance, guys. it can not be worse than it was with Williams on Lang's line. and hopefully it's gonna be better

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

because our main concern as of now is (hopefully: was) total lack of production from second line. we can possibly live without additional toughness but won't survive a single playoff series with just one scoring line. which is in addtion rather simple to stop, at least judging by recent playoff trips. the move is smart somehow

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

nope. I definitely don't think this is any major move and not one to be overly excited about nor to expect too much from this years playoff run. my point is, this could be about all Holland is able to do considering the prices. you saw what it takes to get a player like Floppa, Tkachuk or even Rivet. this is simply not what Holland can afford now. period

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

disagree. we having nothing more to trade. Holland knows to spare as much youth as possible to avoid rebuilding the team from the scratch soon. we can't allow to trade our youth now, and there's only players like injured Sammy whom we could possibly trade. and he doesn't have that significant trade value

nope. Lilja himself would fetch us Malkin and some two 1st round picks. get real man

ummm... Guerin, Smyth, Murray, Brendan back. oh yeah... and Sid the Kid. all of them obviously

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

shakeup to the Wings 2nd line which was close to crap for quite a long time. it came for zero cost for the Wings here (Calder is slightly more expensive but it does close to nothing to our budget) and we have a forward who can put new life into Lang and Cleary (when he comes back). taking into account the fact that Willie was pretty much our single trade asset, this is supposed to be our roster for incoming playoffs. seems like there were no better Holland could do

    Roenick?

no to Roenick. move Whine Gretzky to GM, put Craig MacT behind the bench and we'll have world's largest concentration of crybabies in one city.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

I can see Calder being an improvement over uninspired Williams as of now. but he does not address our main needs anyway. and with Williams being virtually our single trade asset it seems to me Holland is already done here.

can somebody explain me the logic of Wings trading for... LW? a 5-8, 180lbs left wing who is making 3M$ ???

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

my wife's sister's friend's father's uncle who knows a friend of the guy who cooks dinners for zamboni driver in St Louis and knows certain season ticket holder who's best buddies with a man whose wife knows uncle of John Davidson's college pal says Guerin will come to play with Wings for free that's about the value of such "rumours". and most certainly of those s*** Eklund is writing

Oilers to meet Smyth's agent again

want him traded or smoked by Kronwall?
  22. akustyk

Oilers to meet Smyth's agent again

no chance. they'll bite their teeth and stand on their heads if necessary but resign Smyth. he's the heart of Oilers and their franchise players. if anything, he could be a free agent come July. but now that the Oilers are virtually within reach of playoff spot he's not going anywhere. they'll not make it, but keep Smyth until the end of regular season potential buyers for Smyth are the teams who need veteran leadership. for now these could be Pens, maybe Bruins of the East. in July - who knows?

    First Round Matchup

Edmonton blows badly crucial games like Minny last night. a team like that is not supposed to make playoffs. and they definitely don't deserve it
  24. akustyk

Oilers to meet Smyth's agent again

after all the whining of MacT I actually want Smyth leave Oilers. and see this team hit league-bottom next season. would be odd to see him in different jersey but I simply can't find nice feelings towards Craig The Whiner now.

    First Round Matchup

I like Dallas the most. and San Jose is last on my list of teams I'd like to face in Round 1. Nashville could be a nice pairing for Round 1. difficult and physical series, but we stand a chance agaist them in first round. and a series like this would definitely kick-start the team. I don't see Wings getting very far this year but if we were about to reach WCF or SCF I'd rather have a team like Preds or Ducks early. in later rounds they'll be one hell to beat.
