other skills than hitting people? like skating or passing abilities, huh? just kidding
-
nope. Lang was league top scorer when Wings acquired him, and was among league highest scorers for a long time in his career. he has skills and the frame, and this kind of players is usually well paid. Modin has different skills. sure, his leadership and smooth-attitude(?) deffinitely contribute to his value. but he's not at the level of >3M$. that's about what Ryan Smyth, Cheechoo, Afinogenov, Madden are making. Lang is not working up to his contract now, so I see your point. but I'll keep my judgement until after playoffs. he was brought here to be a factor in playoffs and if he delivers in April I'm perfectly fine with his contract.
-
this changes a lot. Modin is good but not this good. that's huge money for him
-
it's 3.25 for those 3 years, right? Freddie Modin is big. I'd love to have him with Wings at this price
-
I like Cajanek, too, but he doesn't fit what we need. and I guess he won't come for free

Trade for second-tier players are Wings' only option
akustyk replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
the roster as of now is quite incapable of sustaining best-of-seven against Preds or, god forbid, Ducks. we could stand a chance against teams playing us that physical if the Wings were focused enough to fulfill their plan and stick to their game. which is not the case with the way Lang and Williams play right now. this leaves a single scoring line (1,5 if you count Hudler&co). these can not be rolled frequent enough to give us the edge. we need some shakeup of our 2nd line to be competitive with the rest of the West. and we badly need toughness to match in playoffs. every single crappy team will goon us endlessly and try to pick its chance by crashing Dom and bringing down our 1st line. we have great D and Hasek himself in the net, but we need to score to be on top. and this ain't gonna happen with single scoring line. -
don't you think this 1st round pick is about to be used in some trade?
-
Wang/Snow have no choice if it's true that Blake demands a contract like 18M$/5yr. and frankly - what does it change if they trade him or not, if they'll nevertheless suck big time in 1st round?
-
yeah... but it's been Islanders. as others mentioned - nice, flashy kid who has good scoring touch and plays with heart. and he also is quite girtty, at least in Wings standards. looks good in my book and I wouldn't cry about giving up Williams for him.
-
let's fetch Ryan Smyth from him in postseason, huh?
-
that sucks for Preds. I'm not exactly a big fan of him but wish him quick recovery
-
MacT is whining yet again. oh well... give this man his five minutes. he's already packing his golf clubs after a miserable season when he failed to carry a cup contender of last year to playoffs. not only make the team competitive after making it 4 rounds of playoff hockey and cashing big time on this, but to even make it able to run for 8th spot. pathetic whine as much as you like, pu$$y and enjoy watching the better team in playoffs
-
Islanders are not Blues or Flyers. they are in playoff picture as of now and they will be shopping for help rather than picks which leads us to a question: what may they want to get from Blake trade? salary dump? possibly. a player in return? likely. stats say they could use some additional scoring depth. like it or not, Williams still has what it took him to 58 points last year. although, I really think Williams trade value is rather low at this moment after a season that bad.

Homer!!!
-
haha... http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/history/awards/calder good call!
-
that's what goon squads do when they don't have skill to win a game...
-
wow Homer 23 goals this season, Paul Krybaby 18...
-
I wish Kronner caught this Booboo crap with his head down
-
3-1 *******!
-
ummm... just a week ago half of this board was having orgasms about Floppa coming to Detroit... oh the irony...
-
so didn't they call this off? watch out for some Wings penalty to give Smashville some chance of winning the game
-
why do I always hear Ken Kal screaming "rebound!" when Wings have Oz in net?
-
he just got himself 1st rounder for "just" O'Brien. and of those two Bertuzzi, if healthy, is worth more. so the math says: if it is Bertuzzi, it's this 1st round pick at least
-
good call. It'd not surprise me to see this. some deal is pressumably done, but we'll get to know who it is later, I guess
-
1st round is quite steep for O'Brien. he's a tough guy and nice to have but 1st round... it seems like yet again some desperate GM is pumping the prices up
