The Hotstove folks said Holland has two years left on his contract with the Wings, at which time the Wings might have to decide between re-signing Holland or letting him go someplace else and promoting Stevie. They said Stevie kind of went into this VP thing not quite sure of which direction he wanted his post-player career to go but now that he's been studying at the feet of one of the game's greatest GM's in Holland for two years - not to mention that he's been in that position with Team Canada for two years now and all indications are he is enjoying it immensely - he's been leaning even more toward a GM position. All indications are, for the time being, that Stevie will stay in Detroit - he has said as much on numerous occasions - but who knows what the future brings? If the Wings sign Holland again and Stevie gets kind of antsy to manage a team he may seek out opportunities elsewhere. I think the Ilitches will do what they can to keep him here but if there are no opportunities for him, could you blame him for going somewhere else? As for the Ottawa comments, when Strachan (I believe) brought up Stevie becoming the Senator's GM one of the others pointed out that Bryan Murray's the GM in Ottawa, to which Strachan replied, "Yeah, but I want to see Murray coach. I like him better as a coach." Instantly discredited!!!! It's just what Strachan would like to see happen! And I think Stevie's parents and in-laws still live in Ottawa. He's got three brothers and a sister - one brother is a hockey writer for the Canadian Press and covers the Ottawa Senators so he probably lives in the area but I've heard his sister lives in North Carolina, I think. One of the Carolinas, anyway. I don't know about the other two brothers. I'm sure he has friends back there, too. But regardless it seems like he still has some ties to the area.

LOL!!! You obviously haven't met my dad yet...he's sharp and spry at 82, and he still works full time even though he retired over 15 years ago! His only problem is, the older he gets, the crabbier he gets. His favorite phrase is "what a jackass!" which he uses to describe anyone who doesn't see things his way (which of course is the ONLY way...lol).

The Pope is a major world leader, besides being the leader of over a billion Catholics worldwide. When he comes to the US, it's a big deal, more than even the Queen of England. So the Pope takes precedence over a hockey game. I suppose the only thing that would preempt the Pope is if the Shiites and Sunnis over in Iraq decided to join hands around Sadr City and sing "Kumbaya." And mean it. Or if Bush decided to pull all of our troops out of Iraq. There are more Catholics in this country than there are Wings fans...sad but true fact. LOL As for the timing, well they're showing the Mass in real time so they have to broadcast it as it's happening. That's just the way it's scheduled. *shrug* And the Mass probably will get higher ratings than the Wings game, anyway.

LOLOL!!! It wouldn't quite match his hair the way his white hat does. And it would be a bit slimy and drippy, not to mention smelly. It could soil his vestments. If I had tickets to his mass tomorrow, I'd definitely go without a second thought. I'd tape the Wings game instead. But since I don't have tickets and already saw two out of the Pope's three masses I'm completely happy taping the Yankee Stadium one.

Yep...major big deal. For Catholics, being in the presence of the Pope is second only to being in the presence of Jesus Himself. I watched his mass in Washington on Thursday and the one in New York today, and I will tape the one from Yankee Stadium tomorrow - sorry, but it's the playoffs, it's Game 6, it's potentially a series-ending game...I've got to watch my Wings.

At least I get CBC here, so I'll be able to watch it. Good thing too, because I was thinking for a minute I might have to go looking for another religion...

Yeah...it was the hair that decided it. Hermione's hair was flying all over in the picture and Hank's the only Wing with semi-long hair. I tried 'shopping it out but it didn't work, so Hank gets to be Hermione. Did you see Babs hanging around on the right? LOL. I had fun doing this one.

Another RED bracelet!!! Yay!!

In keeping with the religious theme...

Mine are all good so far - the knots seem to be holding tight, the red has not bled on to the white, and they look fine after several showers/baths. They keep twisting around each other, though. so much so that one of my coworkers asked me yesterday, "what's with the candy cane bracelet?" LOL I will, however, keep the duct tape in mind, in case I need a repair. It's probably the strongest stuff on the planet!

I made it...it is pretty glaringly noticeable against the two red ones, but at least it doesn't make me look like a Kabbalahist. I know!!! It's not like any of us realistically thought we'd have a wristful of 16 red bracelets and no white ones. But it still sucked.

Mine don't look that good...just knotted here and there. Funny thing is, the first one I made I didn't count the knots when I was making it but I ended up with seven, including the one I made when I tied the thing to my wrist. Each series is the best of seven games. I still have to make my white one...but I don't wanna.

So someone doesn't like the string bracelet idea...that's just too damn bad. Look, if you don't want to do it - whether you are male or female, growing a playoff beard, wearing a bracelet, t-shirt or jersey or whatever - then don't. No one is forcing anyone to do any of this stuff. The intent of the string bracelets is for the ladies to do something other than not shave our legs for two months (and trust me, the guys would all be whining about having prickly-legged women by the time the Cup final starts...) to show our support for the Wings in the playoffs in a fun, creative way. I mean, I can't wear a t-shirt or sweater every game day - while my office has casual dress, we can't wear any band or sports team gear or anything with any kind of slogan on it (other than the company name, of course...). However, I can get away with the string bracelets, although my boss asked me to remove them should we ever meet with a client. If you want to participate, great! Join the Red Wings String Bracelet Sorority. If you don't want to participate, then don't. And if you think it's stupid, STFU. There is no need to put anyone down for the way they choose to support their team.

I'm keeping it simple...I'm just going to braid together six strands of thread for each bracelet. I'm not that good with fancy braids or macrame knots and stuff. I am just wondering how many people at work are going to ask me if I've converted to Kabbalah. LOL My thing is beads - I design, make and sell beaded jewelry. I have made Wings player name bracelets for several friends out of crystal and sterling silver beads with sterling cube letters. Here's the one I made for myself...with Stevie's name, of course - Well, I'm off to braid some embroidery floss...

In one of the articles I read about Abdelkader's signing, Holland said he will probably be a practice player for the playoffs. I'm sure some of the Griffins will get called up before Abdelkader, should the need arise. It's doubtful he will see any ice time, but to have him here, practicing with the team will no doubt make quite an impression on him and I'm sure he will be fighting for a roster spot next fall.

How about Sparty, since he went to MSU? Maybe Abe, or Kader. Darth Kader, although very cool, is too long. :starwars: Abracadabra brings back really bad 1980's memories of a really bad 1980's song.
