Or, how about this - Stick with the red strings for wins, but none for losses. Then, at the end of each series, wind a white one around the red ones, so each round ends up being a separate bracelet of it's own. The white strand ends up symbolizing the Wings winning the series and the fact they are moving on to the next series. Ideally, you'd end up with four red, four-strand bracelets bound by a single white strand.

    Yzerman coming back to play

ROTFLMAO!!!! The question is, will they all wear #19?? Could be a little confusing - "Yzerman passes the puck to Yzerman and backhands it to Yzerman...he shoots and scores!!"

    Yzerman coming back to play

It has to be an error - Stevie's the GM of Team Canada, in addition to his Wings' VP duties. He couldn't come back to play and still do the GM gig. And besides, we all know how much ESPN loves hockey.

    Yzerman coming back to play

WTF?? ROTFLMAO!!! Somehow I highly doubt it - Stevie's said he hasn't skated since he retired, except once or twice with his daughters. He also said once he was retired, that was it - he wasn't going to do a comeback, a la Michael Jordan and Mario Lemieux. Unless...maybe they mean he was re-signed for his front-office job?

My floss was a little more - 35 cents each - but I went to Michael's. Of course I spent like $20, because I got a bunch of other stuff, too. It seems I can't walk out of a craft supply store without spending at least $20. LOL Walmart sucks. I refuse to shop there because of the way they treat their female employees, among other things. But that's a topic for another thread.

Sometimes you can get them four for a dollar... They're pretty darn cheap. Any place that sells craft supplies should have embroidery floss. I'm probably going to go to Michael's because it's closest to my house.

    Ladies equivalent to playoff beard

Nope...gonna get mine tomorrow. I though I had some laying around the house (I do some embroidery) but I don't have the plain old bright Red Wing red.

Well, I don't do thongs, game day or otherwise... And my leg hair just doesn't grow - I haven't shaved my legs since last summer and I still don't have to. So I will do the red and white string bracelets. BTW - just a suggestion...embroidery floss would be better than yarn. Yarn is thick and if the weather gets warm it could get scratchy. Embroidery floss is thinner but strong and I think it would be more comfortable going into June. I'll get a few skeins of red (and just one of white, because of course we are going to win more games than we lose, so I will need more red than I will white. ) on my next day off, which is Wednesday. This is a great idea - if you don't mind I'm going to post it on another Wings fan message board!

What on Earth is Fox-D+ now?!?

Yep...last season when that happened, we got the game on channel 8, but this year Comcast decided to move FSN Plus to digital cable. If you have Comcast, you can only access it if you have digital cable. And apparently that's no guarantee either - a few of my friends didn't get it tonight and when they called Comcast to find out what the deal was, they got the lovely, "Due to high call volumes we cannot connect your call at this time. Please try again later." The "high call volumes" were probably due to everyone calling to complain they can't watch the game!!

    Sports Illustrated Players Poll

Yep...I'd rather if the national media ignores us. That way we can lie low in the bushes and quietly go about our business, then win the Cup. Sounds like a great plan to me. Of course when that happens, all the people who are picking San Jose, Anaheim et. al. over the Wings will be saying "I KNEW Detroit was going to win the Cup!" Whatevs.

What on Earth is Fox-D+ now?!?

Be glad you're getting it - if you have Comcast basic cable you won't be able to watch tonight's game, because FSN Plus is on Comcast digital cable only...channel 900 or 901.

My Mom Just Ran Into Darren McCarty

I actually have found out where a few Wings live over the years, purely on accident, mostly. A few years ago when Igor Larionov played for the Wings his next-door neighbor's house caught fire and Igor and his wife were the ones who woke the neighbors and alerted them to the fire. Idiot newspapers printed the address of the neighbor's house. My best friend's cousin used to babysit Dino Ciccarelli's kids, so I found out where he lived through her (he doesn't live there anymore but the house was in the news last summer when a plumber killed the girlfriend of the owner in the driveway of the home and stole her jewelry. At one point they mentioned the owner purchased the home from Dino). I used to work at Hudson's department store and one of my work friends worked in the bridal registry department. She came down to see me one day very excited, and told me she just spent the better part of the afternoon helping Kris Draper and his fiance with all their bridal registry stuff. She gave me a copy of their registry - they were having all the gifts sent to their new home they were having built. LOL I know the house in Birmingham that Shanahan lived in when he was with the Wings - a friend worked for a real estate agent at the time and one of her boss's colleagues sold the house to Shanny. My dad's a handyman and one of the guys he did a job with several years ago laid carpet in Shanny's house. I confess I took a drive past it once - I had done some shopping in Birmingham that day and I was just curious, nothing more (I'm no stalker, I just wanted to see what it looked like) and wouldn't you know I saw a truck pull into the driveway and Shanny got out! IIRC, it was in 2000 - wasn't that when Shanny broke his foot blocking a shot and had to wear a boot for a while near the end of the season/start of the playoffs? I remember thinking, that was definitely Shanny because he had that boot on. My dad also worked with a guy who painted Stevie's house but he wouldn't tell my dad where Stevie lives, just gave him the main cross streets (like, "He lives around Long Lake and Woodward." That kind of thing). Of course, that's what my dad told me. I also know the address of the house he and Lisa used to live in, in Grosse Pointe, but I got it after they'd already moved to Bloomfield. They moved sometime during the 1997-98 season, because I remember the articles in the paper after they won the 1997 Cup talked about him taking it home to Grosse Pointe, but the next year they mentioned his home in Bloomfield. I also know the subdivision Curtis Joseph lived in when he was with the Wings, because it was a very exclusive, gated community that just happened to be a client of the PR agency I worked for at the time. No home in that community was under $3 million. I guess if you live in the area long enough and talk to enough people, eventually you will find out where someone famous lives.

My Mom Just Ran Into Darren McCarty

I wasn't being sarcastic, just pointing out that the Wings don't play Friday. No sarcasm at all. The little yellow dude was a puzzled face, cuz I'm thinking, why would Mac say to "look for him Friday" when there's no game? Next Friday makes much more sense, being as in today's paper it says he may get in 2-3 games before the end of the regular season. BTW - I've run into Wings all over town. Shanny used to hang out at Dick O'Dow's pub in Birmingham a lot before he got married, I saw Stevie once walking out of Tiffany at Somerset (about three days before his wife's birthday...lol), my friend and I talked with Ozzie, Drapes and Mac about 10 years ago at a nightclub in Pontiac...lots of people I know have had a Wing sighting.

    Stanley cup rings?

I'm not sure about 1997 and 1998, but Intergold, the company that made the 2002 Cup ring, has a fan program, with replica rings (sans diamonds, of course). Here's the link - Intergold Championship Rings

    I want McCarty!

On channel 7's news earlier tonight, Don Shane said that Mac practised with the team today, but it was "clear to see he is still a few weeks away from playing" (Don's words, not mine), so if he plays at all it might not be until the playoffs. I remember last week or so it was either Babs or Holland that said Mac was like, in October while the rest of the team is 3/4 of the way through the season. In other words, he had some catching up to do. This was before he got hurt in GR. So we may not see him at all this season.

    Reminder: Posting Etiquette

While I have not been a perfect angel, I have tried to avoid using the more "serious" curse words anywhere online. I use subsitutions instead. It's kind of fun to figure out different ways to drop an f-bomb. LOL I've used "freaking" "fricking" "farting"...my new favorite is "forking." I use the misspellings "shyte" "beeyotch" and the French spelling "batarde." There are ways to curse without actually doing it - you've just got to get creative! But I will add my thanks, too, Matt - cursing does have it's place, especially when you are as passionate about your team as we are about the Red Wings. But some of the posts have been nothing but curse words. And I second the posters who are saying to watch not only for curse words, but for racially and ethnically insulting words, as well as derogatory terms having to do with sexual preference and intelligence. It's just as bad to refer to someone as a "retard" or a "flaming homo" as it is to call someone a "n****r."

    I want McCarty!

The last I heard he is out with a rib injury he suffered in his last game with the Griffins. He's not practicing and no one seems to know - or is saying - when he may be able to play. There's been no new news on Mac in the last couple of days so I guess it's safe to say things are status quo for the moment.

    McCarty called up

Well, I was a doubter too and I have to say I am glad I was wrong on this one...I have always liked Mac but I had serious doubts whether he could work his way back to the NHL. This is a good lesson for everyone - that if you want something bad enough and you put your mind to it and are willing to work really hard for it, you can have it. BTW - Detroit #1 Fan - I REALLY hope that happens!!! I would love to see that!

question about nhl jersey's with lettering

That's good to know. In the past, both the replicas and the authentics had the embroidered team crest and appliqued "tackle twill" letters and numbers - I have probably a dozen sweaters of which 7 or 8 of them are replicas and aside from the fight strap and the double fabric on the elbows, you really have to look hard to tell which are which. It's really disappointing to know that they're just ironed-on letters and numbers now on the replicas, and still the same price they've always been. How tacky. A question about the new Reebok replicas - do they still have that stupid size tag on the front, and if they do, is it removable? Or is it ironed on, and therefore stuck there for life? I really hate that tag and if I get a new sweater next season (I'm thinking Flip), I'd like to get a replica just due to the cost factor of an authentic.

Something this losing streak taught me

The Wings always go into a mid-season slump around the same time every year. I think (no, actually I'm really quite certain) the reason it has gone on as long as it has is due to all the injuries. Normally the slump lasts 5, maybe 6 games, then everything's back to normal. But with your top 4 d, a top forward and #1 goalie out of the lineup, your team is going to suffer. No two ways around it. I could see improvement already last night just by adding Kronwall and Dom, and Stuart throwing his weight around, showing off for his new teammates and fans. As Red Wings Hospital starts clearing out, I'm sure we will be fine. I will not, however, be surprised if Dallas doesn't take over the #1 seed in the West before that happens. Two things I've learned from this slump/rash of injuries - 1. Offence does indeed start with your defence. I knew it before, but never has it been so well illustrated as it has over these last dozen games. When you've got a bunch of inexperienced kids on the blue line (some of whom may not have been NHL-ready, but had to be pressed into duty because of the injuries), it doesn't matter how good your offence is - your team is going to suffer. 2. Nick Lidstrom is the best player on the team. Steve Yzerman has said it for years, I've said it for years (in fact I have often said, "if we ever lose Nick, we're screwed," although I was referring to the playoffs, not the regular season), I think every Red Wing fan has said it for years. But just how important he is to the team has really become apparent in the last month. He is a steadying force on the blue line, a mentor to the younger d-men, and he just makes anyone he plays with better. He needs to go to the Chris Chelios School of NHL Longevity, because he just simply cannot retire any time in the next 10 years, or at least until he has trained the other young d-men to be as good as he is.
