It's only on Comcast if you have digital cable. If you don't have digital cable, you are SOL. I don't.

Didn't he get cut by a skate between his eyes a couple of seasons ago? I know he's got a scar there (you can see it clearly in the "Fire on Ice" commercials where Nick's eyes glow with flames). I know Nick doesn't have too many scars, as far as hockey players as veteran as he is goes.

if you knew yzermans last year to play was the season...

Umm...uhhh...WTF??? -
It's actually a whole language called lolcats, or kitty pidgin. There's a web site called I Can Has Cheezburger where the majority of the pictures are of cats and they all have capshuns spelt liek dis. That's where that photo is from. It's kind of cute and funny. As for Cleary, I kind of wondered the same thing - this guy must play the puck with his face and not his stick - he always has some kind of facial bruise/injury. But hey, it works for him so why argue with success, right?

Well isn't that special...if I don't miss a workout for a month, can I suit up for the Wings too? Come on, people - think with your heads, not your hearts. If this guy was anyone other than Darren McCarty, you'd all be screaming for Ken Holland to stay far away from him, and if by some brain fart Holland did sign him, you'd all be calling for Holland's head on a platter. Look at the facts - take Mac's name away from everything and just look at the hard facts and ask yourselves, would you sign this player? 35 years old at start of 2007-08 season 2005-06 season Regular Season - 43 games, 6 goals, 5 assists, 11 points, 117 PIM's Playoffs - 7 games, 2 goals, 0 assists, 2 points, 15 PIM's He was limited to 43 games due to injuries 2006-07 Season Regular Season - 32 games, 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, 50 PIM's No playoffs - his team made the playoffs but he did not play He was limited to 32 games due to injuries 2006-07 Salary - $800,000 This player is (was) a more physical type of player, but not so much in the last few years. He has lost quite a few "steps." He's known as a good team guy, however, and fans love him wherever he goes. It is uncertain whether he can still perform at the NHL level any longer, however, and he has become quite injury prone in the last few years. Injuries have included hernias (which required surgery) and groin injuries. Would I sign him? No way in hell. Not when I have similar type players who are younger, cheaper, more productive and not injury prone.

If McCarty wants to pull on a winged wheel sweater again, let him join the alumni team after he retires. I think signing him would be the biggest mistake Ken Holland could make...with the possible exception of the Uwe Krupp signing. (lol) Mac is the past, just as Steve, Brendan, Sergei, Marty and others are. While he - and they - will always have a special place in the hearts of Red Wings fans, it is time to move on and let the next generation take over. We can't live in the past.

Isn't this all just a teensy bit premature? We just locked up Nick for two more seasons, and you know as long as he is here he will be captain. We know Dats will be here then, but as for anyone else (besides Chelios, of course lol ) who knows? Z, Draper, Maltby, Homer...they could all be gone. People were doing the same thing with Steve three years before he retired. Give Nick a chance to be the captain before you start handing his C to someone else. Sheesh. *edit for clarity*

This is perhaps the silliest statement I have seen on these boards in like, forever. Why on earth would the Wings sign a washed up player whose only value to the team would be to put "butts in the seats?" And just which productive player would you suggest we keep out of the lineup so Mac could pretend he's an NHL player again? Look, I love Mac and it makes me sad to see his career end like this but it has ended. There is no doubt that if toughness and having heart were the only requirements for making a comeback he'd be able to do it in a snap of a finger. But there's a reason no NHL team - including the Red Wings - took a chance on him this season...he's done. Face it, people - Darren McCarty's days as a Wing are over. His NHL career is likely over too.

Under the broadcast listings, they have "Watch 1" "Watch 2" and "Watch 3". For 2 and 3 it says, "Available in Canada only." WTF does that mean? And what is the difference between the 3 "watches"?

LOL!! I had a little scare about a year after I had them off - my wisdom teeth started coming in and the dentist was really worried about crowding. Even though only the bottom two wisdom teeth were coming in, he said I really should have all four removed. So I did...it was a horror story of monumental proportions, for a 19-year-old social butterfly, anyway. LOL I looked like a chipmunk for three weeks, got a raging infection in one of the incisions, couldn't sleep laying down for two weeks and couldn't eat solid food for a month. Plus I missed countless social events, including a friend's graduation party. But the pain killers were good...

LOL braces!!! I had braces all through high school, from age 14 until 19...I finally got them off after my first year of college. I had the vampire fangs-thing going...I used to be able to tuck my lower lip under my eye teeth and it looked kind of vampirish. Anyway, here's a recent pic...I cut my hair right after Thanksgiving. It used to be about six inches longer and quite a bit blonder. I took the pic myself with my crappy cell phone camera. I'll post a better one when I get it, probably sometime after Christmas -

Not nearly enough. If he didn't learn from a record-setting 25 game suspension, why should the league think five more games will be the difference-maker? Oooh, he's getting "help" this time...give me a break. I mean I'm glad he is getting help - he obviously has issues, but come on - seven previous suspensions did nothing. The league really needed to set a precedent that said "you do this kind of crap - try to injure someone - and we will end your season. We don't care who you are, you are done for the year." I don't think anyone's debating that 30 games is a long time - it's almost 40% of the season - and under normal circumstances I'd agree with it. But this is Simon's eighth suspension. That he is a repeat offender alone is worth at least 10 games. The NHL really needs to grow a pair.
-
I think it's great the Islanders are going to help Simon get his head together and I also think it's wise for Simon to take some time off. But given his history, any suspension short of the rest of the season AND the playoffs is a joke. He has had seven previous suspensions for intent to injure incidents and obviously he doesn't/can't/won't get the message. The NHL needs to put it's foot down (no pun intended) and let Simon - and the rest of the league - know this kind of crap won't be tolerated AT ALL. I mean, playing physical is fine and we all know players get hurt sometimes when they play. But this is uncalled for. The NHL needs to send a strong, definitive message to Simon and the league and the only way to do that is to end Simon's season...now.

Oh gawd! I have seen that several times but it cracks me up every time I watch it. I was 24 years old - same age as Stevie - in 1989. Still in college, working two jobs, trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. LOL

Great. Channel 276 is a digital cable channel...I don't have digital cable, nor can I afford it. I am really starting to hate Comcast...they are taking more channels away from basic cable and making them digital-only. They've already taken SoapNet, the Game Show Network and ESPN Classic away from basic and made it digital. Now it seems any new channels are going straight to the digital package. They have to realize some people don't want or can't afford digital...at least make it part of an optional package basic cable subscribers can add on to their service for an extra fee, like an HBO or something.

I wish people would start thinking with their heads instead of their hearts. Mac and Sergei were good players while they were here with the Wings (Sergei was actually a great player), and there is no denying all the wonderful things they did while playing for the Wings, but neither one of them is all that good anymore. Sergei is on the downside of his career and Mac is just done. They have both suffered injuries that have kept them out of the lineup for significant periods of time, and their production is way, way down. Sergei scored 12 goals and 31 assists in 62 games in 2005-06, and 18 goals and 24 assists in 73 games last season. Of course Mac was never a prolific scorer, but he had NO points - no goals or assists - at all last season, and since leaving Detroit has only played 99 games. It is the end of November and no one is interested in signing him. If these guys were anyone but Mac and Sergei, would Wings fans be clamoring for Ken Holland to sign them? I think if most fans answered that question honestly, the answer would be no.

I think any place that does authentic lettering ought to be able to do it for any team. I had been planning on getting a Peterborough Petes jersey with Yzerman's name and number and had been talking to the guys at the Goalie's Den to do it. I never got it though, for various reasons. However, they did all of my Team Canada jerseys (World Cup 1996, Olympics 1998 and 2002).

I have to agree with Hank - I love Mac but I think he's done. He'd just be taking up a roster spot that a younger, tougher, more productive player deserves. I'm all for a veteran team but they have to be able to play. Given Mac's record over the last couple of seasons, he has yet to prove he can still play.

I've been gettiing standing room tickets for about 10 years now - they're great. You are paying about half of what people 10 feet in front of you paid. LOL The only drawbacks are occasionally you will get a really big, burly type that sits in the seats directly in front of you, which sort of blocks some of your view of the ice, and when there's a fight or some other excitement that would cause everyone to stand up, you lose your view of the ice entirely. That's the time when I just look at the jumbotron over center ice. My recommendation? Try to find a standing room spot near a lower bowl stairway...not so many people directly in front of you that way. Of course, as others have mentioned, one of your group has to stay in your spot all night or you risk losing it so if you want to go down and watch the pregame skates, you will have to decide who doesn't get to go. My friend and I just take turns. Same thing for food/drink/potty breaks. We have a good usher in our section that keeps people from walking in front of us while the play is on; some people get angry that they can't go to their seats and we have had a few insults thrown our way, in the vein of "you couldn't afford real seats so why should I be concerned whether you see the game or not?" Sometimes we will reply, sometimes we'll let it go. Depends on who it is and what kind of mood we're in. LOL One bonus to standing room - sometimes when people leave, they will give you their ticket stubs and let you sit in their seats. Over the years I've had seats all over the lower bowl for anywhere from half of the third period to an entire game. We got seats last night with about five minutes left in the second period. When the Wings raised the banner for the 2002 Cup, a man gave us his stubs before the ceremonies even started - he was there with his son and his son got sick so they were leaving. Once, we got seats right behind the player's bench...as we sat down my friend said, "don't look now but Lisa Yzerman is sitting right behind us." Overall, IMO standing room tix are a good deal. I would much rather get them than sit in the upper reaches of the upper bowl for just a few dollars less.
-
Just an FYI - remember it's not the Wings that are producing the jerseys with the wrong lettering, it's Reebok and the league. But yeah, any reputable shop that does lettering can do authentic lettering for you. I know The Goalie's Den in Troy used to do it. I haven't been there lately, but you can always give them a call. Good luck!

The Battle of 19 : Stevie vs Sakic and others
Yzermania19 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Yzerman and Sakic are both classy longtime leaders of their respective teams and genuinely good guys. No one can dispute that. However, comparing their careers - Stevie's entire career and Joe's up to this season - the nod has to go to Stevie, simply based on numbers, which are facts. I know that's not entirely fair because Joe is still playing, but it's what we've got. Stevie also gets the intangibles, since he played more than half his career on a questionable knee (especially the last few seasons) and with that neck injury as well. Steve also has three Stanley Cups, versus Joe's 2. Steve also had six consecutive seasons in which he broke 100 points; in five of those seasons he broke 50 goals, and in two of those, he broke 60 goals. While Joe also broke 100 points six times, the seasons are scattered throughout his career and he only broke 50 goals twice. And then there is that some people refer to Stevie as the greatest player to ever play in the NHL who was not named Gretzky or Lemieux. Also, you have to look at the respect Stevie has throughout hockey. I'm not saying Joe isn't respected, because he certainly is, but when Team Canada went to the Turin Olympics in 2006 without Stevie, no one who could have - namely Joe and Joe Thornton - wore #19 out of respect for Stevie and Wayne Gretzky said the number is basically retired. Would they have done the same thing for Joe? I'm not so sure. It's a tough comparison, but IMO Stevie comes out on top, but Joe is right there as a close second. Just my $0.02 -
Yes, he said it - Here's a link to the whole article - Yzerman comeback? Not a chance
