Is Every Canadian Sports Station Against Wings?
Yzermania19 replied to KrazyGangsta's topic in General
It's a total lack of respect. If most of the predictions had come true, we would have been out in the first round. Few picked us to get past Calgary and even fewer picked us to beat the Sharks. What cracks me up is when we win, it's not because we might actually have been the better team, it's because the other team made mistakes and let us win. I get so tired of the whole "the Flames/Sharks let the Wings win." No, the Wings were the better team! Just admit it, already! But you know, I think the more the media types dis the Wings, the stronger they get. So I say, bring it on!!! We'll just do the opposite of what's expected of us, and just keep on winning all the way to Stanley! Then when Nick is hoisting the Cup in June, the media will just have to eat a big, steaming serving of roasted crow! -
Years ago there was some rumor about the Wings moving out to the suburbs but they got the Joe so all is well. I was pretty young then so I don't remember the specifics of the rumor, as in just how true/serious it was. But AFAICR, the Wings were never going to leave the Detroit area.

I'm a member - I have been since its inception in 2001. The site has not been without it's problems, that's for sure. A lot of the problems can be attributed to an inattentive provider but the Wings must bear some of the responsibility too. For example, they never had an article on the home page about Yzerman's retirement, yet they had one about Greg Johnson's return. The excuse was they don't pay the site writers for summer work. It can be frustrating when certain features and other things promised don't work but I have chosen to remain a member. I use the message boards on a daily basis and have made some great friends. To me, that makes the cost worth it, but that's me. Others may not - and don't - see it that way. The Arena Cam is cool, when it works. It hasn't worked in a few months, after some idiot decided to zero in on the cleavage of some ladies in the crowd during a game, then posted them in the Arena Cam's photo album. The Fan Pages haven't worked since they updated the site and the blogs never did work. Regarding the members-only pre-sale for tickets - there have been problems in the last few years with people joining just to get the password - we'd get all these noobs coming on the day before the pre-sale, posting messages like "I didn't get my password!!" - and then selling the password or the tickets they got using the password on eBay. That is part of the reason other members have had problems getting tickets. Also, there are only a limited number of tickets held aside for RWW members - not all the tickets available to the public are availabe to RWW on the pre-sale day. Some people have luck, others don't. Personally I had better luck on the day of the general public sale so I really didn't use the pre-sale for the last few years. That's not the reason I signed up, however, and if it's the main reason people sign up then yeah, you're going to be disappointed. Supposedly RWW is switching providers so we will see how things go with the new people. Although, the switch was supposed to happen prior to the start of the playoffs and it hasn't happened yet. Hopefully when the switch does happen, we will have these features that have been promised. So is it worth it? Well, like I said, for me I think it is. I would suggest you sign up and give it a chance. If you don't like it, just don't renew when your membership is up. I'm really offended by that. There are certainly way more than three "real" hockey fans and the rest of us are certainly not "crabby old women that argue almost anything." We discuss, debate, voice our opinions and yes, we disagree. Gee, just like here.

Well, that's how it goes...Chelios got that late penalty when he grabbed the third arm of the Neptune Triton's defenseman Onan Zornk and hauled him down in front of the goaltender. I mean, things happen in the playoffs.

I'd love to see that, too, but for it to happen the Rangers better get it in gear for the third period, cuz they are losing 4-2 in the early stages of the third period right now. If they lose, they're out. I am too young to remember the Original Six era and I barely remember the Expansion Six era. My dad, though, tells me stories about seeing Gordie and the Production Line back in the glory days of the 1950's. I think for most hockey fans, there is a certain nostalgia held about the Original Six era and it seems to be more so in hockey than in any other sport. I don't remember the same sort of fuss being made when the NBA, MLB or NFL expanded their number of teams. i don't know why this is...you could say it's because hockey fans are more traditionalists than fans of the other sports but that's not entirely true. There's a lot of tradition in the other sports, too, especially baseball. Regardless, I think the NHL just expanded too much and too quickly. I don't think the league can really support 30 teams long term. But no one is going anywhere and we will not see contraction at any point in the forseeable future. TFF!!! This is the funniest thing I've read on these boards in a while!! And you know what? It'll probably be Gary Bettman IV, the great-great grandson of the esteemed *cough* commissioner that expands the NHL to Neptune!

The 2-2-1-1-1 is the most fair for both teams. It gives home ice advantage to the higher seeded team, but it gives the other team a chance with the second two games at their home rink. The difference comes in the last three games, where two of them are at the higer seeded team's home rink. Yeah, it can suck for travel in the Western Conference when you have teams at the geographic extremes of the conference, like Detroit and San Jose, playing each other, but both teams have to make that travel so neither has an advantage over the other. A 2-3-2 would be ideal for travel, but gives the lower seeded team the advantage by having three games played at their rink in the middle of a series. 3-3-1 might work, but again, you run the risk of the higher seeded team being up 3 games to 1 before the lower seeded team even gets to play a home game. It's an imperfect system, no matter how you look at it, but you have to go with the format that is the most fair for both teams, and that's the 2-2-1-1-1, the way it is now.

LOL Nice try. How about ESPN - Every Sport? Puck NO!
-
LOL!!! ESPN - the We Hate Hockey Network.
-
Where'd you see that?
-
Oh, damn, that really sucks. Who's next on the d-man call-up list?

Winning is the best revenge. The most effective thing the Wings can do is keep their cool, stay composed and go out and win Game 6. The Sharks will be golfing by mid-week.

Remember, NBC is not pre-empting any possible OT for the race itself, but for the pre-race show, which is basically the equivalent of watching the stars arrive before the Oscars. The Derby doesn't start until after 6 PM. All I can say is, I'm glad I live in the Detroit area. Just a question - if the game isn't over in regulation before 4:30, what happens then? I mean, it's not unheard of for hockey games to go longer than 2 1/2 hours. Will NBC not show the last 10 minutes or whatever's left of regulation?

Officially it's the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. And Red Bird 2 is in the air again, ferrying the Tigers to Kansas City as we speak...err, type. LOL

That just sounds so wrong on so many levels...

The problem is, this person is watching the REG WINGS not the RED WINGS.

I know how your husband feels...I am generally known as the Hockey Girl wherever I work. I had a job in an advertising agency and the head of the media buying department would come to me and ask me what Wings games I felt they should buy air time for clients that would give them the most bang for their buck. Also, any time they got complimentary tickets, they always gave them to me. LOL It was awesome! I, too, have every game on the calendar and watch them all. I will even videotape a game if I'm not going to be home to see it. But it pisses me off that hockey doesn't get the coverage it deserves and I think it's that hockey is just not a popular sport. I've heard people describe it as a "niche sport" and I think that's true - it has it's rabid, loyal fan base but beyond that, the fans are few and far between. NASCAR is more popular in the US than hockey is. We are lucky here in Detroit that we live in an area with a team that has been consistently good for well over a decade and a half and that our team gets plenty of coverage in print, at least. But I get angry, too, when I turn on the radio to get some news about the Wings and all I hear is discussion over what player the Lions should take in the draft. Both sports stations in town should realize football isn't the only game in town around here.

That is one of the coolest links! I always wondered how people found out when the team plane was going to land. Next stop for Red Bird II - Chicago!!! LOL

Someone on another message board said he heard on WXYT that Homer is going to be out 1-2 weeks. Every other report I've heard and seen says he will miss maybe a game or two. I certainly hope he's not going to be out longer than a couple of games...
-
I just read on MLive's message boards that according to an interview with Babcock on WDFN, Homer did indeed get clipped in the eye, as well as his eyelid. There is bleeding in his eye and there was added pressure, which could have been very dangerous but apparently there has been a big improvement in the condition of the eye from last night. He was cleared to fly home with the team so the pressure couldn't have been too bad. The blood in his eye needs to clear up before he can play but officially he is listed as day to day.
-
It looked like it was a cut above his eye, but they took him to hospital for what they called "precautionary measures." I dunno, but people usually don't go to hospital for precautionary measures for a cut on the forehead. I just hope it's not serious...we're going to need Homer for the next series.

Who told this dips*** hack she knows anything about hockey? Her columns are full of crap, just like she is. The day the NHL introduces the shootout to the playoffs is the day I am THROUGH with the NHL. Period.

I hated that angle too!!! I kept waiting for them to switch back to the regular angle. I was getting dizzy...

Stevie does cast a long shadow over the team and he will for a long time to come. And it's a VERY good thing!
