Admittedly I dont' know much about football, and I am still learning about the game and its machinations (I finally, FINALLY understand the downs!! You don't know how exciting that is for me!! ) but I have watched the Lions consistently for a couple of seasons now. I watched last year because it was the only sport in town (I don't like basketball. At all). I am watching this year because I am a "glass-half-full" type of person. Usually. It's amazing how watching the Lions will change your mind on that. So, based on the last 500 years of futility for the Detroit Lions, here is my opinion (and it is just that - my opinion) on what the Lions need to do in order to win, not necessarily a Super Bowl, but just win - 1. Fire Mooch 2. Fire Millen 3. Trade Joey for a box of footballs and some Froot Loops 4. Hell, trade the whole team, except Jasen Hansen 5. Sell the team to someone who cares The last one is key - sell the team to someone who cares. The Tigers suck, they have sucked for, oh, about 250 years now, and probably will continue to suck for the forseeable future (Jim Leyland is NOT the answer, but that's an entire other thread) but at least Ilitch gives the impression that he cares and appears to make efforts at trying to improve the team, even though they don't work out (Juan Gonzalez) more than they do (Placido Polanco). Old Man Ford has given no indication that he even gives a crap about the Lions, other than as a tax write off. Otherwise, he would have never extened the incompetent boob Millen's contract for five years, and Mooch would have been gone after last season. It would be nice if the Lions had the opportunity to play in the Superbowl in Detroit on their nice, bright, shiny new field, but unfortunately that dream is right up there with seeing unicorns fly outside my window. Not gonna happen, at least not in this reality. Somewhere out there is an alternate reality, one in which the Lions have won the Superbowl several times in the last...oh, nevermind. It's just too far fetched to exist in ANY reality.

It's funny - I went to TMLfans.ca and they're saying that the trade heavily favours the Wings and on most Wings message boards that I've visited today, Wings fans are saying the trade heavily favors the Leafs. Ahhh, a fan's unbiased perspective... However, I wouldn't do this for a couple of reasons - 1. Zata and Kronny are looked at as players around which the Wings plan to build their future. 2. Kronny has huge potential - some even say he may be the second coming of Nick Lidstrom. Yes, he's still unproven, but why package that potential in a trade for three mediocre players? I happen to think this trade is Eklundesque BS. But time will tell.

Since we got Ozzie back, why not go after Feds?? And while we're at it, let's bring back Larry Murphy, Jamie Macoun, Doug Brown, Slava Fetisov, Bob Rouse and the rest of the 1998 Stanley Cup team? It'll be like a season-long class reunion. *sarcasm*

He also averages about one concussion per game. I do NOT want to see Lindros in a Wings sweater. He has whined his way off every team he's ever played for, starting way back in junior. I don't care if he's Stevie's fishing buddy, Ken Holland needs to JUST SAY NO!! As for goalies, I'd rather have Cujo over Osgood but with the way he was treated last season by the Wings (being shoved aside unceremoniously so Hasek could stage what amounted to a failed comeback), and then the Wings not picking up the option on his contract, I think Cujo got the message the Wings don't want him anymore. I understand the reason for not picking up the option was so they could re-sign him at a lower salary (if they wanted to re-sign him), but it still smacks of, "We don't want you." Would Cujo come back to the Wings? Who knows? I think he's a better goalie than Ozzie and personally, I'd like to see Cujo back in Detroit.

I'd rather have Tim Cheveldae in goal than Eddie Belfour. If we're going to trade Zetts, we'd better get something better than Belfour and Belak.
