From the Detroit Free Press, via Mlive's Snapshots - General manager Ken Holland has decided not to offer a contract to Conklin, 33, who will be an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday. Howard, 25, is out of minor-league options after spending four seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Wings' AHL affiliate. Howard is signed through 2011 and is due to make $717,700 next season. More - Free Press' Sipple confirms Wings won't bring back Ty Conklin This is too bad. I liked the way he played for us and I think he makes a much better backup than Jimmy Howard. I'm not impressed with Howard's play so far. I'd rather have Conklin, who has shown he can win games.

If it's such old news, why was it only confirmed today? Howard deserves his shot, and the nine games he's played in the last four years do not count as his shot. Maybe, but he hasn't shown anything that tells me he is ready to be a full-time NHL backup. Honestly, I'd rather take Manny Legace over Howard at this point.

I really hope somehow they can get Hossa to sign here, but at this point I feel like it might be too much to wish for. I guess we'll find out sometime tomorrow.

CONGRATULATIONS, STEVIE!!! Regarding the induction ceremony - the HOF web site has a contact person listed for more info. Her name is Kelly Masse and her email is kmasse@hhof.com (I am just assuming she's a she. Of course Kelly could be a guys name, like Kelly Hrudey). Expect the tix to be really pricey. Back in 2004 a friend and I looked into going for Paul Coffey's induction (said friend is a HUGE Coffey fan. Why, I don't know) and at that time the tix were $300, just for the ceremony. Roadtrips is offering a complete VIP package that includes hotel, tix to the induction, tix to the Hall of Fame Game, along with other awesome-sounding goodies for $1,425. Here's the link if anyone's interested - HHOF Induction Weekend Celebration I would really REALLY like to go but I just don't think I can afford it.

I don't know how reliable it is, but I found this on Twitter - supposed to be a listing of NHL Tweeters: NHL Players on Twitter

That should be our playoff slogan next season - "Touch the Octopus." The guy who does the voice for MGM Grand Casino's radio spots (the "touch the lion" guy) could do the commercials. I never was much of a Def Leppard fan, but what they did to the Cup was insulting and disgraceful. They knew what they were doing, I mean someone who never saw the Cup before could tell the base from the top. Puh-leez. They were just being asshats.

I have an authentic Yzerman Nike sweater and it has both the Nike swoosh and the NHL shield on the hem (black and orange at the time). I never really paid too much attention to what was on the hem, except to make sure it had embroidered patches and not the rubberized iron-on ones.

Wow, only one day of practice before the gold medal game? That's really condensed...usually they have three. So, who's planning on going?? *raises hand* I am!

Nice way to spam the board - a new member, and the only two posts posted by this person talk about this "disgusting" and "untrue" article, and include a link to said article, where you have to register to read it. This is BS, people. Just some troll trying to up the viewings on his site counter.

I am absolutely DEVASTATED! And I'm pissed off! I feel like someone just died. When the buzzer sounded I fell over on the sofa and started to cry like a baby. I couldn't watch Crybaby Sid get the Cup from PeeWee Herman and Frankenmalkin get Ozzie's Conn Smythe trophy!! Yet I am angry because the Wings were outplayed by Pittsburgh. They didn't effing show up until late in the second period!! I was like, "Oh, there's 23 minutes left in the game...thanks for coming!!" I have to give full props to the Penguins - they played tonight like they wanted it more. They were getting to the pucks first, their passes were crisp, they were protecting the puck more...in short, they were doing everything the Wings weren't and should have been. And that's been the theme all year - they play this lackadaisical style for 40 minutes, then come out storming in the 3rd period and win the game. They didn't play that way in the first three rounds, so why on earth they went back to that for the final is beyond me. You're just not going to be able to let the other team score first - or second - and be able to come back from that. Not every time. So the summer is going to be a bit more subdued than it was last year. But you know what? Come September, I'll be in Traverse City for Training Camp and be right back with the Red Wings. But you know, I almost would rather see the Wings lose in one of the earlier rounds, than go all the way to the Cup final and lose. This hurts too much.

Okay, this is a legitimate question coming from a female - what do they do medically for a damaged ********? Whatever they do, it sounds painful!

Meanwhile, download Apple's Safari browser - I did shortly after I started getting the attack site error messages during the Chicago series and I haven't had a problem since. Plus, it's faster than IE or Firefox! I love it. Yzersyukstromberg - yes, it is MICHIGANDER.

PS 2009 Stanley Cup Final Photoshop War: Pittsburgh Penguins
Yzermania19 replied to Matt's topic in Hall of Fame
I drove past that last weekend! It's at Friendly Chrysler-Jeep on Van Dyke - I bought my car from them back in 2001! They're big Wings fans - the whole showroom is decorated with framed, autographed photos and jerseys. They used to have signings where they'd get 4-5 players to sign at one time. You'd pay like $50 for all four and the money would go to charity, usually some child who was fighting cancer or some other illness.- 740 replies

I posted this last year and the Wings won the Cup, so I'm posting it again this year -

WXYT was making a Cindy trash talk podcast this morning by having people call in with contributions. Here are two of my favorites - "The only cup Sidney's going to be drinking from is Malkin's!" "Hey Sid, you wanna know what it's like to win the Stanley Cup? Ask Hossa on Saturday!"

Is that Flip?? :rotflmao:

You know, sometimes I think my life would be easier if I didn't care so much. But that's what makes life worth living - to have such passion about things! I live and die with this team, and I love every exasperating, joyous, crushing, exuberant, disappointing, wonderful, fabulous, frustrating and awesome moment of it!!
-
And my favorite (no kidding, I heard someone say this today) - "100% of the teams that win Game 7's go on to win the series!" No f-ing duh.
-
"This game will determine the outcome of the series."
-
"This game is a must-win."
-
"It's the most important game of the season."
-
"There is no tomorrow."
-
"it's a do or die situation."
-
Some cliches to add to the post total - "Their backs are up against the wall."
