What are the requirements for a player to get their name on the cup?
Yzermania19 replied to Osgood=WIN!'s topic in General
That's how Kevin Hodson got his name on the Cup. He didn't play 40 games nor did he play in the Final, but he was an integral part of the team and the Ilitches and the team wanted his name on there. They petitioned to get it on and succeeded. Mac will get his name on the Cup, even though he didn't play close to 40 regular season games - he played in Game 1 against Pittsburgh and by the rules, that's enough. -
I think after Nashville and especially Dallas this year, the Wings are going to do their darndest to not let the Pens back in this series. I know it would be great to be able to win the Cup on home ice at the Joe, but if the Wings win tonight, they absolutely need to make sure they finish it off Saturday. I think it's imperative they win tonight, anyway - being up 3-0 is a whole lot different than being up 2-1. The Pens win tonight and they get a little confidence that can go a long way. You don't want to give the opposition any reason to hope they can still win it. The Pens, at least after Game 2, sounded like a completely defeated team. The Wings have to keep them believing that there is no way they are going to beat Detroit. But I STILL think the Wings will win.
-
Nervous? Yes. Worried? No. As others have pointed out, the Pens would have to win 4 out of the next 5 games to win the Cup, whereas the Wings only have to win two. Does anyone seriously - based on the first two games of the series - think the Pens are capable of winning 4 out of the next 5 games? With all due respect to the Pens, I certainly don't think so. Yes, it's possible, but not bloody likely. The Pens left the ice Monday looking utterly defeated and demoralised. I'm nervous only because I am nervous before every playoff game. If we're going to lose a game against Pittsburgh, it'll be tonight's game, but I just can't see that happening after watching the total domination by the Wings in Games 1 and 2. As long as the Wings don't sit back and become complacent, thinking they don't have to bring their A game. Having said that, I am confident the Wings will win the Cup this year.

A real man will exhibit true class and offer his hand to another even if he doesn't deserve it. The Wings players are real men and as such, they will shake the hands of each Penguins player and coach at the end of this thing, win or lose.
-
That's exactly the impression I got - he sounded like an utterly defeated man without a clue. That's pretty bad for a coach! I mean, way to instill confidence in your players...NOT! Even if that's how he was thinking, he should have said some things like, "we're going to look at film and retool and come up with a new game plan, because what we've been doing hasn't worked so far," or "we're only two games down - there are still potentially five games to play and we're going back to Pittsburgh where we're undefeated in these playoffs," even if he didn't believe it himself. Something...anything but the "I have no idea what to do" attitude he displayed last night. On the flip side, when you hear Babs say things like, "oh I know what we're going to do - we're going to play better," you get the feeling that nothing is going to stand in the Wings' way. Your team is up 2 games to none, you've just completed your second consecutive shutout in the Cup final against a team that many picked to win the Cup and you're saying you're going to play better? Woah. All I can say to that is, look out Penguins!
-
I'm not even thinking about this yet...it's tempting fate too much. When we are leading the series 3 games to 1 (or none, or whatever) and we're about halfway through what will end up being the 4th victory, then I will let myself muse about who Nick will give the Cup to. Until then, I'm taking the player's mentality of just thinking of the next game.
-
He's just a hater. Just like the people who say the Wings have been complete failures since the lockout. We've been anything but. People expected this team to barely make the playoffs after the lockout and we've been the best team in the league - just like before the lockout. so HA on you!

I thought he said "Steven" Crosby!! But that's part of Bud's charm - remember when the Russian Five played for us? I think he mispronounced one of their names at each game! Gotta love Bud!

I read it and my first reaction was to fire off a nasty, terse response but then I thought, why? What's the use? It's a BLOG. By someone who isn't even a legitimate journalist. It's not worth my time.

I was here before 2002 and went through the whole re-register thing. Same screen name, too. Remember Julie the Stevie-hater and her various screen names? Man, she was just evil. We've sure had our share of trolls here, haven't we? But overall it's been good fun!!

Why the octopus still won't twirl in Detroit
Yzermania19 replied to I Red Wings I's topic in General
A blogger at the Free Press debunked Bettman's excuse for banning octopus twirling - he twirled octopi in front of a white shower curtain, one so vigorously - way more than Al ever did or would - that a tentacle came off, and no "gunk" of any sort went flying off the thing. The sheet remained clean as a whistle. Part 1 - Tempest in a boiling pot - Putting a twirled octopus to the test Part 2 - Octopus Twirling Test Part Two: The "Raw" Data So, in conclusion, Bettman's just an asshat and he proved it once again. -
As has been stated, the dealership is not at fault. That would be like you or I suing the car dealership where we bought our cars because there was a defect in the car that led to an accident. It just doesn't make sense. All the dealership did was sell the car to a company that turned luxury cars into limos. However, even that company (which has apparently gone out of business) isn't responsible. IMO, it's the limo company, Gambino (also out of business), and the driver that bear the responsibility. The limo company should have, first of all, made sure they had drivers with impeccable driving records, and that all proper safety precautions had been taken, which included making sure that the seat belts were visible and available, should the passengers choose to use them. The driver should never have been driving in his condition. What happened to Vlady and Sergei Mnatsakanov was a horrible, horrible thing, but this just makes it look like they're grasping at straws to find someone culpable.

Normally I agree with Bruce but not this time. The guys who are supposed to score are scoring, the guys who are supposed to check are checking, and the guys who are supposed to defend are defending. And the guy who is supposed to stop the pucks has the lowest GAA in the playoffs and is an early favorite for the Conn Smythe. Everyone is doing their job, and quite exceptionally well. We've lost three of 14 playoff games - one of the last 10 - and nearly swept two series in a row. Would he be saying the same things had we beaten Dallas on Wednesday night? I seriously doubt it. The Wings' egg isn't cracked, but Bruce's is.

Probably sometime before Monday's game, because if he is suspended, it would be in effect for Game 3. I think a one-game suspension is warranted - whether Ozzie hit him with his stick is immaterial. You just can't take a swing at another player like that. If Ozzie hit him then that probably would have been a high-sticking penalty if it happened during the game but what Ribiero did looked pretty close to an intent to injure. So we will see.
