Part of this has to do with my fantasy draft, but I'm wondering how many games people expect Ozzie to start this season. I can't imagine Howard would be able to handle to workload that Conks did last year, but I also figure that Red Wing management doesn't want to burn Ozzie out during the regular season. Perhaps that implies call up chances for Larsson and McCollum (sp?) Agree? Disagree? Estimates? I'll say Osgood plays 60 games, Howard gets 10-14, and the remaining ones are split giving one or both of the other two a chance.

With the newly announced signing of Ryan Clowe, the Sharks are right up against the cap and with only 9 forwards and 1 goaltender signed. 2009-2010 San Jose Sharks FORWARDS Joe Thornton $7,200,000 Patrick Marleau $6,300,000 Milan Michalek $4,333,333 Ryane Clowe $3,500,000 Jonathan Cheechoo $3,000,000 Joe Pavelski $1,637,500 Devin Setoguchi $1,246,666 Jamie McGinn $996,666 Jody Shelley $725,000 DEFENSEMEN Dan Boyle $6,666,666 Rob Blake $3,500,000 Marc-Edouard Vlasic $3,100,000 Christian Ehrhoff $3,100,000 Douglas Murray $2,500,000 Kent Huskins $1,700,000 Brad Lukowich $1,566,666 GOALTENDERS Evgeni Nabokov $5,375,000 CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (including bonuses) ROSTER SIZE 17 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $56,447,497 BONUS MONEY (ESTIMATED) (1.3% of cap) $740,000 CAP ROOM $352,503 CAP ROOM PER OPEN SPOT $58,751 To me it looks like they're gonna be forced to move JT or Marleau. They seem to have a lot of guys capable of playing in their top 6, but not much in the way of grinders/role players... you know, the moens or griers. With the depth of their defence and this cap issue I find it very surprising that they gave Blake such a big contract for this year. What do you guys think they'll do?

San Jose Sharks in trouble...
Canadian_Yzerman_Fan replied to Canadian_Yzerman_Fan's topic in General
I think they're about $1-million over the cap and still need to sign at least 2 forwards... they do have 7-D though and I don't know who the guy backing up Nabokov is (Thomas Greiss?)... but they'll need him to play some games if Nabby is gonna have anything left for the playoffs. -
I was just reading an article about all of this summer's 1-year signings and how great it makes next summer's cap space/freedom and it made me sonder about Nick's re-signing. I think it's safe to say that he won't be retiring when his contract expires next summer. So I was wondering what other people think.... How much and how long will his next contract be? I realize it's purely speculation, but I'd probably say 2-3 years at a cap hit around $2.5 to $3.0 million. Additionally, we only have $40.7 million committed to cap space past this year. Excluding the 1-year guys signed this offseason we only have Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Helm, Lilja, Lebda needing new contracts. One of Lilja or Lebda will be gone next year (which one will depend on Lilja's health). Homer is bound to make less if he stays playing, and Helm still won't get more than $2-Million a year... Meaning we're going to have $10-12 Million next summer to sign the same number of guys that we signed with $3.5 this year. And with a cap decrease next year, big contracts will be hard to come by... I think the wings are going to have at least one HUGE UFA signing next year
-
"the Detroit Red Wings are willing to part with D Nicklas Lidstrom, C Pavel Datsyuk and a 5th round pick to obtain the services of D Erik Johnson" ... yikes, STL is gonna clean up on that one
-
Perhaps you missed it last season but he suffured what was likely a career ending injury by severing his Achilles tendon.
-
If the price is right (less than 1.5mil) it would be worth a shot for a 1-2 year deal... but I think that's very doubftul
-
I've said before that I am a fan of Moen, but other quality experienced depth/vet guys that can be signed for a season would be Sykora... probably not realistic purely due to his time in Detroit being over... Shanny
-
I was actually wondering if Holland might take a shot at him... I think they got him for a decent price and term. Oh well, maybe Moen

The only respectable AV of the 90's Great player. Great captain. Very unfortunate to have his career end the way it did. I really thought he had more elite level hockey in him.
-
I think it's a really good contract for both him and the blue jackets organization. They have a lot of potential to grow. They have some alright depth guys already and a lot of free cap space. This team is gonna get a lot better before they start getting worse.

San Jose Sharks in trouble...

Edmonton? LA? ... maybe Atlanta? they could probably get 2 decent 3rd liners for him while increasing their cap space (see the oilers offer for heatley) -
This is the biggest overpayment of the day... i dont think he can live up to this contract... see previous years signings of Biere, Campbell, Gomez & Drury, etc.
-
I agree.... I think he'd do well here. He also has a knack for getting timely goals. What is his contract status?

Dallas Stars hire Marc Crawford as head coach
Canadian_Yzerman_Fan replied to edicius's topic in General
What a terrible terrible idea! Tippett was pretty good I think. He'll find a job somewhere quickly. Crawford on the other hand has been out of the league for a while for a reason. Oh well, at least it happened to a rival. Watch out for the increased goonery of Ott with this. -
hahaha, I agree... The power here is very low. Alternatively you could move the mean of H1 farther from the mean of H0, AND increase your alpha... but that still does tell about the significance of your results. Ultimately, I second increasing the sample size to at least 25-30 comparable games otherwise your p-value is going to mean very little.

In response to myself... I found it. It's at about the 7:30 mark (remaining) in the first period. After the TV-Timeout VS does a replay of the incident and it definitely looks as though the official at center ice turned to Mark Eaton and told him to get off the ice.... Scary stuff.
-
I found this quite interesting... Darren Dreger of TSN is reporting that the Red Wings are still complaining about the too many men thing from the 1st period of game 3, saying that they are accusing referee Dennis Leroux (sp?) was yelling at Penguin players telling them to get off the ice. I've never heard of a team making these kinds of allegations without being damn sure of themselves (especially the Red Wings who typically write off the officiating because they aren't supposed to say anything). I'd be interested to look at the tape and see if anything can be heard during the replay. Does anyone know what the time on the clock was when it happened?
-
Sammy took a big hit in game 2 that popped his helmet off. He didn't play another shift after that. If he's out it's because he's hurt, not because the coach wants to sit him for any poor defensive play. Edit: For anyone paying attention to defensive play this season, I do believe Draper had the team low for +/-.

Malkin's penalty rescinded (merged)
Canadian_Yzerman_Fan replied to 10 Minute Misconduct's topic in General
Walker wasn't suspended for punching Ward in the last 5 minutes of the game in round 2. The precedent has been set that the rulebook doesn't matter. Way to go NHL -
After he scored the breakaway goal in game 7 against the Ducks, Hossa called him "Speedy Gonzales" I also heard someone on HNIC last night say that the players just call him "Speedy"

Too early to start the Osgood for Conn Smythe talk?
Canadian_Yzerman_Fan replied to swordfish's topic in General
I think the general consensus gives osgood the top vote here but i think franzen is just as deserving. It's too easy to forget the big goals he has scored - especially when no one else was getting it done against Anaheim. He's been very consistent and without him the wings would be golfing. That said though, I think it's Osgood's turn and with all the heat he took coming into the playoffs, the turn-around in his game warrants this kind of recognition. -
Here we go again, as Ozzy is ready to out-fox the Hawks as he blocks their shots and shocks another one of these poor feathered flocks. The Hawks will skate as if there are rocks in their socks, and end up taking frequent walks to the box. Keep your heads up Hawks. The neutral zone is where Brad Stuart stalks. There will be talks from all the docs that the Hawks can't withstand such powerful knocks. As the clocks have their ticks and their tocks and Quennville runs out of his chaulks, all that will be left are his gawks at how Datsyuk dekes off the Hawks jocks - Leaving Khabi with a paralyzing case of Pavel-Pox. The home crowd will taunt them with jeers and mocks as the Hawks limp off the ice in their tattered up smocks. Go Wings! (yes I am bored, and still pumped from the win) EDIT: Feel free to add some of your own lines!

That was good advice! I don't have photoshop, so this is all I can contribute to the trash talking
