Damn, I already spent that $10/mth. Interesting thing was, I just went into contract with Dish in Sep. Was worried they'd ding me the cancellation fee. Called corp first and they said 'no, we'll ding you.' Called to cancel on Wed and the rep said 'NP - we'll waive that for you.' We'll see..... Got an email from them this AM - 'Shane - come back. We'll give you $15/mth off'. No way. DTV DVR lil klugy but I'm staying with Direct. For now.....

Done tho they lost me. I got a much better deal as a new sub to DirecTV than what Dish was offering me to stay (and up until today, that did not include local hockey nor any FSN HD feeds on CI. Again, they can blow me). DISH Network and Fox Networks Reach Comprehensive Programming Agreement Viewers Ensured Continued Fox Broadcasting and Fox Television Stations Programming in Major Cities FX, National Geographic Channel, and Fox's 19 Regional Sports Networks Immediately Restored to DISH Network Lineup LOS ANGELES and ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Oct 29, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ -- DISH Network L.L.C., a subsidiary of DISH Network Corporation (Nasdaq: DISH) and Fox Networks, an operating unit of News Corporation (Nasdaq: NWS), today announced a wide-ranging distribution agreement to provide the third-largest video distributor in the United States with continued access to programming from Fox Broadcasting and Fox local television stations in major cities. The agreement also included carriage of FX, National Geographic Channel, and Fox's 19 regional sports networks, which were restored for DISH Network viewers Friday.

I should have held out a lil more b4 switching to DirecTV - would have missed yesterdays game.... 10/29/10 - 10:30 AM PDT Dish Network, Fox Close To Reaching Carriage Agreement Dish Network and Fox are close to cutting a carriage deal for Fox, FX, the National Geographic Channel and all 19 of Fox' RSNs, ending a bitter four-week series of high-level negotiations, according to sources. The two sides face a Sunday deadline to cut a deal or Dish subs risk having Fox owned-and-operated broadcast channels go dark. Dish dropped the RSNs, FX and NatGeo on Oct. 1, unable to come to terms on a new deal. Talks heated up this week as the deadline for the broadcast channel approached and RSNs started covering the new NBA season. Sources say that the two sides were involved in tense, round-the-clock negotiations. A formal agreement is expected to be signed and announced before the Sunday deadline. Deal terms are not known, though Dish Network was seeking similar terms to the deal Time Warner Cable signed with Fox earlier this year. News of Dish’s deal could increase pressure on Cablevision to cut a deal with Fox. Fox' broadcast channels went dark on Cablevision systems Oct. 15, and the two sides have exchanged acrimonious barbs through the press. Sources say Fox and Cablevision still are far apart in their negotiations (John Ourand, THE DAILY).

No one really seems to fess up to what the real issue is - all Dish says is FOX wants 50% more. They dont state that FOX wants to raise their rates 50%, just that they want more. From trolling other boards, it appears FOX wants Dish to put their RSNs on their lowest tier (which Direct already does BTW). Since FOX revenues are based on the number of subs that get their channel, this would cause Dish to pay them more (which makes their claim of 50% increase kinda disingenuous though somewhat accurate I guess). Again, this issue has already been remedied by Direct though who knows if another issue may arise. There is a person who appears to be fairly knowledgeable of the innards of Directv, and he states their FOX contract isnt up until end of 2010. And that they have a good working relationship with Direct since Rupert previously owned Direct (still has some shares so the story goes). There's even talk of perhaps a tad of collusion between them in this current squabble. GASP - collusion in the sports (sorta) world? Who woulda thunk....
-
Making the switch tomorrow. If anybody else is switching from Dish to Direct, PM me. We'd each get $100 off for a year in their Refer a Friend promo. Will you be my friend? (for $100?). Dish = Biteman = Evil.
-
Couple of things from some other boards where I've been following this (as always, YMMV): - FOX's contract isn't up with Direct until sometime 2011 AND - the issue FOX is having with Dish has already been mitigated with Direct - FOX wants their local FSN stations on the lowest tier so more subs get them = greater revenue instead of having sub having to pay for a higher tier Not to say another issue may not arise......

Couldn't care less for the $7 credit - I want the games in HD and I want them now (well, dont need tonights as I'll be at the game)!
-
Yes it is and its getting suckier (will the judges take that?). Most of the HD feeds for hockey come from the FSN RSNs which FOX is no longer transmitting to Dish. That is why we only get the CSN and a couple FSN feeds that are not part of the current dispute in HD on CI. I've given them 2 weeks since most of the Wingz games were available in HD on VS or NHLN. I'm calling DirecTV tomorrow in time for the CGY game next week (thx Kenny for getting 5 days off in between!).

You think so? Well, NoGood is Lazy And He Sucks!

Hot damn! Another Pylon for the I-5/Katella exit (insider joke)! I can imagine the conversation he had with himself since his visa was up - 'Hmmmmmm - OC or Siberia? Tuff call'. He should fit in well with the Dux new D strategy - 'just plant yourself there and don't move.'
-
Not that it helps all of you in-market, but Dish has the FSN feeds on CI. The kicker is that the CI feed from inDemand only transmits SD feeds and the providers have the option of using their own HD feed of the specific RSN. Well, since Dish currently has NO HD feeds from any FSN, they're stuck using the SD feed. Which makes my new 60" plasma go flaccid. I'll give them 5 more days since NHLN and VS have the next games in HD, then I'm off to Directv.
-
Honestly. I have no friggin idea. Been all over trying to get an answer since the original CI carriage is b/t NHL and inDemand with Dish just acting as the rebroadcaster. No one wants to answer this (Dish notwithstanding - they'll give you a yes and a no depending on which Punjab native speaking person answers the call). I've tried NHL, NHLLive, LeBrun (thx for nuttin mate), every friggin Dish forum that exists, and I even tweeted the Pope (well, I was going to.....). Bottom line is that no one is saying if the dispute affects the CI carriage. The interesting thing is tho that Dish has all the non-Fox RSNs in the open AND their 'Find Game' page shows Prime (CH 411 I think) in the open w/o the game being marked as a Blackout. So if its not on CI, try PRIME I guess. I'm heading out to the FOX GRILL (ironic eh?) if its not on CI (I'm out of DET market BTW).

Um, not any more. Thought I also saw this on their sched and now it only shows as a 1 AM replay. BUF-PHI now on live in its place. Wonder if this has to do with the Dish-FSN hissy fit. Edit - OK now I have no idea - their text listing on their site shows the game but the frame box DIRECTLY next to hit shows my stmt above. -

And Biteman can blow me. I go thru this every friggin year and I'm getting really tired of it. Contacted NHL director of TV Ops and he blew me off last year. I pay for all the sports regionals (I mean, since I cant hack BEV anymore ). I pay my due diligence for CI. And every year 'Bob' @ Dish Call Center in Bangalore sez 'Exhibition games are not part of CI'. Even tho it's one MSG and FSD, they're blackedout. Which is why the NHL will always be a third-world league as far as their Ops go. The only thing Bitteman learned from Stern was how to order hookers. -
The family of Bob Probert donated the brain of the former NHL tough guy to a group of researchers at Boston University who have studied the link between head trauma and debilitating heath effects in football players and boxers. Bob's Brain

Kinda doubt it since they were scheduled to leave PHX about an hour ago and are still on the ground. Usually they leave right after a game but both trips outta here have been next day.
