Oops! Alexander Ovechkin is the winner of the 2008 Hart Trophy as the National Hockey League's most valuable player to his team. That is, according to the NHL's online shop for a few hours on Friday. The league's official website briefly displayed a blue Reebok Washington Capitals T-Shirt of the Russian superstar, with the title ‘2007-08 Hart Trophy winner' splashed across the bottom. “The Hart Memorial Trophy, originally known as the Hart Trophy, the “oldest and most prestigious individual award in hockey,” is awarded annually to the Most Valuable Player in the National Hockey League,” the sales page read. Ovechkin was the league-leader in points and goals with 112 points and 65 goals respectively. The 22-year-old helped lead the Capitals to the Southeast Division title and a spot in the playoffs. The Russian sniper set the single-season NHL record for goals by a left wing and scored the most goals in a season since Mario Lemieux in 1995-96. Frank Brown, spokesman for the NHL released this statement concerning the T-shirt advertisement: "In an effort to offer our fans the merchandise they want in a timely manner following an event such as the NHL Awards, our licensees prepare product for all possible outcomes. In this situation, the link for one of the possible products became live early through an error by our e-commerce provider. We regret the error and have since taken steps to amend."

Here's the official Stanley Journal at HHOF - entries are posted after the fact so it would be fun if locals could post their brush with greatness. I just wanted to get this started so feel free to post the individual entries as they appear, perhaps in their own dated threads which would be easier to navigate. Stanley's World Tour 2008

I asked Matt to put up a thread so we could follow it. This is the official site but it would be nice to get some locals stories.... Stanley's Red Summer Tour 2008

Beat me to it Anon - another stellar year Matt. Upgrades were probably painful for you, but a joy for us. Raise the Cup Matt - you earned it and I thank you!

'A secret NHL report detailing the ticket revenues of its 30 teams reveals what Canadian hockey fans have long suspected and offers a compelling case for putting more teams north of the border. The six Canadian teams account for 31 per cent of the $1.1 billion (U.S.) in league ticket revenue, and have gone through league-leading double-digit increases over last season, according to the internal NHL report.' '...The increase in the value of the Canadian dollar may be responsible for as much as half of the league's revenue gains since the NHL went through the lockout of 2004-05, say several sources familiar with NHL finances.' Alas, the poor Yotes: 'The most interesting league data may concern the sad-sack Coyotes, who were last in ticket revenue at $450,000. The team is losing more than $30 million a season and was contacted over the past season by six potential buyers, including Balsillie's lawyer, Richard Rodier.' The Story The List

IMHO, this is the sad part of all of this - what ever happened to just winning - guess I didn't realize that coaches further sell the team - I mean, he's not Gretz or anyone who is about the only coach I know of (at least here in the Colonies) that fits the bill: According to the Star, incoming team owner Oren Koules has pushed for the hiring of Melrose in an effort to further sell the team and the sport in Florida.

They went to a 'spa' - perhaps to get a pedicure and their beards trimmed? What we did on our day off
-
Think the league officially stopped keeping track of each teams zone ice time - offensive, neutral, defensive. Would like to get that back. Oh and BTW Sammy and Rafalski are Lazy and They Suck (little TM thingy needed subscripted).
-
He also said the coach played the 1st line too much and didn't use all of his bench. How do you think the coach will respond?
-
Kinda hard to pull him when PIT dumps it in with 1:00 left to play and it takes us 30 freaking seconds to get it out. Our older men were a bit tired it seemed. Guess it was cuz the coach didn't use his bench wisely, eh?
-
This begets a question that I guess I could utilze The Google for, but sometimes its just easier this way: Saw a pic of Fisch on the ice passing pucks at practice yesterday and was wondering if his name would go on the Cup (IF we're so inclined to partake ). Do execs names get on the Cup? If so, Hakan's should be at the top!
