In all seriousness, if Filppula puts up a 60-point season and then a solid playoff (say, 0.75 ppg), I'd say he's moderately worth it. But honestly, we are getting the same production (with poorer defense) out of Todd Bertuzzi (whom I think is worth the $1.5 m he's getting paid).

Nope, he didn't. But comparatively, Franzen followed it up with 34 goals and another great playoff......not just a promise of potential AFTER getting paid. And yeah, Franzen is a dominating physical force-- not a hitter, but the power that he plays with and his ability to hang on to the puck and score tough goals.

His cap hit is $3.95M. Now, ignoring the fact his salary is not hurting us while he is on IR, with Franzen, you have a guy who scored 27 then 34 goals in the regular season and was a dominating force in the playoffs. Yeah, that extra $950,000 per year is certainly the difference between the two. Filppula has played in 29 games and has 4 goals and 18 points. Woo-hoo. Dominating physical force who set a Wings record for goals in a playoff series, net-front, goal-scoring presence.....vs. hustle and potential. It's a good thing Filppula HASN'T put up 50 points yet because he'd probably be worth 5-6 M, right? My point remains, he's overpaid. Again, I don't hate Filppula, but you don't acknowledge that. Uggh. I don't know if you've read all of this, but my point is not to flame Filppula. Unfortunately, I've had to argue that yeah, I like the guy, but he is not worth $3M as an energy player who puts up 40 points (yes, he has potential for more). He hustles, no doubt. All I wanted to do was get opinions on exploring moving him, and instead, I must hate Filppula (I don't), want Hossa (I didn't), or think Scotty Bowman is dumb (I still don't understand how this was even a point, but of course I don't). Does that make him infallible? No. Am I saying that Filppula didn't impress him? No. But pointing out that Bowman liked him means nothing. It's like saying that the Raiders liking Todd Marinovich means they are universally stupid, or the Wings taking Curtis Bowen in the first round means they can't draft. People make mistakes. Sorry guys, eating dinner and couldn't respond to each thing as it came up. Do I hate Filppula? No. Does he need to make an "amazing" play to impress me? No. Can I honestly say I expected more from him? Yep. His salary is too high for what he does, even if he does have a few moments here and there. You know how much Alex Burrows makes? $2M. Ryan Kesler? $1.75M....they go on and on, I just happened to pull up Vancouver's salary chart. But hey, I guess not blindly loving Filppula and suggesting moving him may make sense might make me a douchebag here. Ehh. In my opinion, he's shown some flashes that have quite a few of you intoxicated on him, and thus, he can't be touched. I'm sure he's a good guy, and I want to emphatically state that I think he is a serviceable NHL player with upside. He's just not worth what he's paid and moving him intrigues me.

He disrupted the play---but it wasn't like he shook off 3 defenders and killed a minute of penalty time.....but that's pretty unreasonable to expect a guy in the league for 3 years to do that, and certainly not for 3 mill. You'd have to give him Darren Helm type money for that much of a contribution.

I got into the same argument about "projections" this offseason. How's Ville Leino doing? Projections mean nothing. He's not done it yet, and I really doubt he ever will.
