Take the play as a whole. Osgood lingered too long, made a bad play on the puck, the Wings didn't clear it, and both defensemen were scrambling. But bravo on loving Osgood. That isn't a knock, if you think he's turning it around, great. I don't hate the guy, but at least I can assess his play objectively. He WAS a great goalie, but he is past his prime.

I think I really understand what pro-Osgood posters mean when the defence is giving up, thus meaning Osgood is not responsible for goals. It's been a recurring thing over the past decade. Why the hell would they back off and let Langenbrunner or MacInnis shoot? Obvious defensive lapses. Yeah, the point of defenders is to protect the goalie. If a shot is taken, it's obvious that they are horrible and in no way could it be the goalie's fault. Ever. Unless it was Dominik Hasek, Manny Legace, Ty Conklin, or Curtis Joseph. Those guys still should make saves. Osgood is purely a victim of bad defense. Yep.

This argument is going nowhere. My point is, it's stupid to allow (on the boards and not just the GDT) people to wish/joke about death or permanent injury for players on other teams and then freak out when it's said about one of our players. I'm just pointing out the double-standard. As I said, people in China can and do criticize the US. Where the similarity lies here is that China won't allow for self-criticism in the same manner. Ericsson is a good prospect; but if you are making an argument that right now he is better than say, oh, Steve Montador (Bruins deadline pickup) you are wrong.
